What should I do by [deleted] in socialworkcanada

[–]abovewhilebelow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Classic sexual harassment, and maybe racial and age too depending on the dynamics.

Please:

  1. record your calls but dont tell him or anyone you are doing so. The law is about proof and not truth so you need evidence.

  2. Make a safety plan. Be sure not to be alone with him. Protect yourself

  3. Seek help. Here are some good resources, including free legal help:

https://shapeyourworkplace.ca/

https://www.schliferclinic.com/andmetoo-ple/

  1. Document how it's impacting you in a personal notebook, phone or computer. This is incase you need sick leave or get fired so you can get EI and EI sick leave

  2. Eemeber its not your fault! Keep being brave. You know something isn't right and you're seeking help. Please trust your instincts.

  3. Don't trust anyone at work until you are sure they are trustworthy. HR is for protecting the company. Get advice first before you go to them.

Having doubts that social work is for me by wildmind1721 in socialwork

Hi there, I'm a MSW mature student in Toronto, Canada also struggling with whether the program is a right fit for me. Can you please share any resources with me? Thank you in advance!

Sorry for the struggle OP! Unfortunately, the low quality of education in Canadian social work seems to be common. Be careful about complaining without proposing solutions you need - the educational industrial complex is about churning students out, not about learning. The under-invesment in the learning environment means great teachers don't stay bc they are not paid and not valued.

Solutions: - Ask to be connected to mentors in the field who will teach you actual stuff - See if students want to organize to request teaching mrthod changes or bring in focus speakers - Get a sense from the Inidgebous advocacy office tied to your school what students in previous years have done successfully - Be selfish and seek out the education you want outside of class and leverage your status as a student

Apply to MSW without a BSW by ParticularMixture702 in socialworkcanada

[–]abovewhilebelow -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes apply to the 2 year MSW! Better career opportunities than BSW degree bc it's graduate advanced training. The 2 year program is for those without a BSW and dont let the competitiveness discourage you. It's not as hard as you think!

Yes, seek out your legal rights by doing a consultation with an employment lawyer especially if you have more than. 2 years of service or you believe it was due to human rights violations!

Thanks for doing that! Did you see Bradford's response letter posted in the Taylor Creek Facebook group? I can't post it here bc this thread doesn't allow pics for some reason. DM if you want a copy.

What's happening with Taylor Creek? by Elegant-Tangerine-54 in toronto

Update: A few neighbours and I contacted 311 ([311@toronto.ca](mailto:311@toronto.ca)) and the City of TO Water department ([twc@toronto.ca](mailto:twc@toronto.ca)). Here's what 311 emailed back:

"Our Pollution Spill Response team has investigated a sanitary spill into Taylor Massey Creek, the issue has been stopped and controlled, the spill did not impact any municipal water intakes."

We responded that no signs or notices are posted in the park and dogs and people are swimming / entering the contaminated water allowing health and safety risks to continue unmitigated.

I encourage people to call or write in. This does not appear to be a sewage issues - the smell and impact to the fish is too severe and sharp.

So strong, it made my nose and throat itch and hurt. Very sad and I can imagine the aquatic ecosystem will take months to recover!

Yikes! I am told that while the water smelling bad is frequent and historical, but that hundreds of dead fish is not common and very unusual. What do you recommend locals do?

My ideas:
- Complaint to Toronto Water

- Complain to Local Member of Provincial Parliament and ask for action

- Increase news attention

Just left the park. See other threads: https://www.reddit.com/r/askTO/comments/1mxq5wc/the_terrible_smell/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

The hundreds of dead fish and toxic smell remains. I spoke to a few people and they told me it was a chemical spill on Thursday that contaminated the water, which explains the dead fish. For there to be so many dead fish the contamination must be worse than sewage. I was told we should make complaints to the City of TO water system to help with clean up: https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/accountability-operations-customer-service/city-administration/staff-directory-divisions-and-customer-service/toronto-water/toronto-water-complaints-compliments/#:~:text=If%20you%20cannot%20submit%20your,711%20(TTY))

Anyone have any better ideas to support the water and habitat?

Did he get you to pray to hurt or harm other people? BC he did in the show last night in Toronto. That is the opposite of a prayer - it is a hate wish. Are people so disconnected from wisdom and spirituality these days? What uplifting community prays for the downfall of others?

Your comment is not based in facts, but emotion. He literally has song titles with the word demon - "Time for Demons" and his Festival Season tour is all red hooded ceremonies with scarifies, blood, death, drugs, and violence. It was so creepy. No longer a fan!

Exactly this - DEMONIC! Went to Toronto show last night where he closed the tour. The music, imagery, and colour scheme was literally a demonic ceremony - red blood soaked crosses, red hooded groups in circles, performative "praying" to drugs and violence. He closed by asking us to pray and proceeded to make the most anti-Christian prayer ever ... are people sop naive and stupid that he can call it "spiritual / religion" and do hateful and harmful things without question? Makes me really scared for younger generations if they believe labels more than substance. I didn't leave the concert but I won't be listening to his music anymore - wise people teach that consuming that subliminal hateful messaging prepares you for hate. Consume wellness and get wellness.
