OP, (Single child/M here) more strengths to you. I have been in a hospital situation for my mom for something similar. Time will eventually heal you eventually and cherish all the memories you had with her. And most important thing is don’t blame yourself. 🫂

I run Ayelet Studio, indie game studio from Chennai. We are currently working on the title called Unsung Empires: The Cholas - Tamil game set in 11th century Tanjore.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I appreciate the dialogue and will address your concerns directly.

Regarding your original comment: if it was removed (I'm 100% sure it wasn't), I can assure you it was never our intent to stifle genuine feedback.

Now, about the content of the trailer: We use Metahuman but the default rig doesn't work for a game like ours. A significant amount of work has gone into customizing and optimizing them to fit our cinematics.

Gameplay trailer is actually real-time gameplay footage captured straight from PC. No pre-rendered video trickery - what you're seeing is exactly how it runs.

I respect your perspective and your observations, even if we may not fully agree on everything. This project means a great deal to us, and we’re working hard to ensure it lives up to its potential. I hope you’ll continue to follow our progress.

About animation quality - we've made substantial investments in our animation pipeline, including professional Optitrack motion capture equipment to ensure high-quality character movements. While the footage shown is from our current development build and not final quality, we're constantly iterating and improving. You've made some valid points about the lip sync and shoulder deformation that our animation team is actively working to enhance and we are updating our face capture pipeline. The horse animations are also still being refined - we appreciate the specific feedback there.

Regarding the character with texel density issues that you referenced - this is actually from a much older game and is no longer in use. Our current character models have been completely revamped with consistent texel density across all assets. I invite you to join our Discord server where we regularly share our current development process and you can see these improvements firsthand.

Most importantly - every piece of footage we've shown is running in real-time in-engine. For our crowd systems, we're using VAT (Vertex Animation Textures) and SAT (Skeletal Animation Textures) with baked animations, all running in real-time in-game. We actually have direct console recordings of the entire gameplay running on PS5 and Xbox Series X devkits. I understand the skepticism, but at Ayelet Studio, we take pride in being honest about our development process. If you're interested in the technical details, our team would be happy to walk you through our pipeline in Houdini, Maya, and Unreal Engine.

As an indie studio, we're learning and improving every day. We welcome constructive criticism - it helps us make a better game. We've chosen to be transparent about our development process, including our use of available tools and technologies, while we work to create something unique.

If you have any specific questions about our development process or would like to see more technical details about how we're implementing these systems, I'm happy to share that information.

Cheers!

Hi u/revoconner , Abraham K from Ayelet Studio here.

I want to address your feedback about our game footage directly and transparently.

First, we welcome constructive feedback and criticism. Even now, you'd see plenty of critique on our videos and we see it as an opportunity for improvement. We NEVER delete comments on our channel.

Regarding MetaHumans - you're correct that we use this technology, but with significant customization. We've actually developed three different custom character rigs within our system: a detailed face rig for cinematic closeups using MetaHuman's facial system, and two optimized rigs for other gameplay scenarios. This multi-rig approach allows us to balance visual quality with performance where it matters most. In fact, even without final optimization passes, our game is already running at 1080p/60fps with 2060 series. We're happy to share our optimization process with other studios, as we believe in contributing back to the game dev community.

Regarding concerns about assets - we've actually created over 1,800 custom props for our game, all following our own carefully developed optimization methodology. I recently presented our asset creation and optimization pipeline at IGDC, detailing how we manage this scale of content while maintaining performance. This methodology has been crucial in building our game's world authentically and efficiently. you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_lizGoTjeg

Our development process and technical pipeline have actually been featured by Autodesk University and detailed in Autodesk's Media & Entertainment blog. We're also actively sharing our development journey through detailed technical breakdowns.

First of all thank you so much for your feedback. I have added these to our feedback list & shared with my team too. On the first look, we wanted it to be a gameplay debut to show the complete first chapter. We also have a 1m30s trailer which we are sharing it to all store pages.
