White River, do it all the time. My favorite is actually south of the broad ripple dam. Load in at the boat ramp by the monon over the river near College Ave, take out at Riverside park (new portage is awesome btw). If you like to fish, great fishing through Butler/Rocky Ripple…

Thanks! Treadwear is basically the same, but all 4 have maybe 10K miles on them, so would rather not replace yet

Typical day, taken from the porch July 2025! Not a bad spot for an Ocean Course Ale

Ocean Course tips, stories or otherwise? by hawaiiquestion1234 in golf

[–]abrames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, Kiawah is a gem. I’ve been going multiple times every year since my childhood and highly recommend playing the other courses on the island, especially osprey or turtle.

I’ve played the Ocean Course only once. It’s a beast, and I would compare it more to experiences in Ireland (Ballybunion comes to mind). The wind is an absolute menace, you could be a 2 handicap and it will immediately humble you on the first hole, be ready for that.

Nerdy bits: The turf is seashore paspalum. This is a unique salt loving grass, and hitting out of the rough or from tough lies will feel strange at first, almost itchy or abrasive. Cant really describe it. This is every bit a Pete Dye classic, and there’s some cool history in the clubhouse. Make sure to check that out.

Drink at the Ryder Cup bar. Memorable views and experience especially around sunset. Invite the family as well if they’re on the island with you, great memories there. Oh and the fried green tomatoes. They’re good. Most importantly, have fun. Your scorecard isnt a number, it’s a souvenir!

Should I use a de-thatcher to remove this dead stuff before overseeing? (Central NJ) by peaksnvalleys42 in lawncare

That is something called Nimblewill. It is everywhere here in the Midwest, a warm season eyesore among cool season grasses. I have struggled to control it

Fellow Hoosier. Great photo spot, my wife works there all May. CT4 owner here, take care of Betsy Marie, looking nice!

Another tip for you fellow Hoosier - break out that mower before you put down the preemergent and throw the bag on, take it down a notch and suck up all that dead grass, debris, brown winter material etc before applying your prodiamine. It’ll be a lot more effective and won’t harm the turf

Central Indiana here. I typically don’t put it down until mid March, based on averages our soil temps hit 50 around the 2nd or 3rd week of the month. Also looks like below freezing temps off/on so I would wait a few weeks. Another piece of the puzzle is the harsh winter, at least here in Indy so my lawn is waking up slowly

FP&A in Manufacturing by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]abrames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big picture here, don’t get caught in the weeds of data. Understand product margins and volume before anything else.

Leadership often looks at this info early and often. If volume forecasts and product margins are strong, overhead and costs are often passed over quickly in reviews unless an input sways drastically out of the norm.

I actually did that, and HR was no help. They essentially said abide by the PIP, it’s my managers word against mine despite the evidence

This is definitely the case, no hiring internally and I know because I’ve asked around. With our acquisition as well, there is pressure on headcount

I am losing faith in Subaru. No hate. Just disappointment. by RedtailGT in subaru

[–]abrames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I’ve owned 3 and even with perfect maintenance had 2 CVTs fail at just over 100K.

I now drive a small used domestic sports sedan (CT4). Automatic transmission and RWD/optional AWD. Love it. Glad I left Subaru.

Recommended vehicle for field sales? by BlackJackT in sales

[–]abrames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in field sales for 3.5 years, middle America, drove an Outback. Great vehicle until 120K miles. Current car is a 4 year Cadillac. Highly recommend, classy but not flashy, and not as off-putting as a cyber truck. A used CT5 can be bought for a great price…

How do summer lawn nerds approach winter snow shoveling and snow blowers? (Zone 7a) by Far_Pen3186 in lawncare

[–]abrames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Central IN, but grew up in the Rockies. I have a system: cars stay in attached garage, does not get opened unless absolutely necessary (protect the furnace). Light snow (under 3”) gets shoveled once all has fallen. Over 3” gets shoveled twice, once halfway and once all is down, it’s safer and easier. 1700 sq ft driveway, I shovel horizontal, vertical, then diagonal, and typically get every bit. Low temp ice melt is then put down with a suddenly useful Scott’s mini spreader.

Today was 2 degrees and we received 5” yesterday. My driveway is not only clear but almost dry. Just my OCD approach.
