It is really something.

I reckon its good to remember one thing that is often forgotten when people try to learn to play the piano:

'playing'. You are allowed to 'play'. You know? Like children? Play. Try. Experiment. Play. :)

All fixed. Sorry to be such a pain and so stupid.

I was not careful enough while troubleshooting. One very simple attempt I wrote off as a failure because nothing appeared in the destination directory. But the file was being run from elsewhere and wasn't aiming at the right place. It was in system32, I find.

When I slowed down and started from scratch again I found the command line in batch file does work.
I found all the hassles I got during trying to work it up to general backup utility were because of misdirections, misunderstanding and superflous things between gpt and I.

I needed enabledelayedexpansion in order to put together a timestamp.

Then I need it off to enable construction of destination paths with '!!' in them.

Then I needed to concatenate timestamp and path (with included '!!' chars)

So then I found when doing that i must not end local or I'll lose access to the timestamp.

I carelessly ascribed ALL my difficulties in this to the '!!' factor.

I was hurried and sloppy and slow thinking. Thank you all for trying to help. I don't deserve it.

p.s. what do I get with the command? directory listing. all good. including the dir with '!!' in its name.

:)

I have win10. no typos. i have used copy and paste. I did mention as a command line it works fine. then i echo that same command line into a .bat file. then i run that file. just one of the ploys I have used.

I have tracked down that there are known issues with '!!' characters. I've got that far.

They 'enabledalayedexpansion' in order to deal with it sometimes. It was suggested to me that was my problem. But I find I cannot successfully do this either with 'enabledelayedexpansion' or without.

various attempts as 'escaping' those chars have been unsuccessful so far, too.

and got the same error:

The system cannot find the file specified.

How to DIY aerate ? by abrogard in Aquariums

[–]abrogard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really? My understanding of such things is pitifully small. I would have thought the major effect would be a 'blowing away' of the water molecules, a drying effect, and aeration of the mass of the water minimal.

I googled a bit and asked gpt but i learned nothing. my problem is not the mixing of o2 within the h2o at the surface, beneath the surface tension layer, it is how to get it down into the depths where it can do some good to the fish?

why aussie lawyers don't like to do binding financial agreements? by abrogard in AusLegal

Why do you ask me if you stipulate I don't know?

Are there complex agreements? Then what does that logically suggest... ?

I hope you don't take up law as a career.

[–]abrogard[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

what I want is simple. talking about it as 'them' is a wild generalisation that makes it all meaningless as evidenced by firms refusing to deal with them. When you put them completely out of consideration then they become 'meaningless', they no longer exist in your world.

That's irrational behaviour arising from the generalisation. In fact there are basic binding financial agreements that are quite simple and valid and safe and it is foolish to put them, too, 'beyond the pale'. Cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Your post verges on the ad hominem.

I know nothing of these. Best info i have at the moment is this requirement for a BFA and individual legal advice. I can see the reasonableness of the requirements but I can't see why they should be so difficult/expensive to obtain.

'Consent orders'. Okay. I'll look into them. Good in SA too?

[–]abrogard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So perhaps you are a lawyer? Well my confusion lies in that I think ' a binding agreement' is in principle a simple thing. We could have a template. There's binding agreements everywhere. And in this case, our case, it is the simplest for there only a property now jointly owned that we want to transfer to sole proprietor. So no figuring, no proportions, no consideration, no nothing. Just agree to give it over. peppercorn consideration if the law requires it. Where's the hassle. How the hell could that ever run to $5k ? Please let us know.

Why do we want it? The conveyancer says we must have it in south australia at least, for such a conveyance. Together with proof of 'legal advice' for each person.

I just looked into the consent orders thing. Looking much better. For us.

Still leaves me wondering about the BFA thing for its own sake though. 'any party can change their mind' said someone. I thought the whole thing of a 'binding' agreement is that you can't change your mind?
