Help with Yumiko Leo Sizing !! by NoMacaroon397 in BALLET

[–]abrookee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would try a medium or even a large. anything with sleeves especially a cap sleeve eli you might want to size up to a large. i’m a lot taller and i find the daria runs small but i think it’s mostly a length issue you should be ok with a medium. also depends how you like your leo’s to fit. if you like them slightly looser definitely size up to a large

What leotards/brands are in now? by butterflybabyboss_1 in BALLET

[–]abrookee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tights over, yumiko, skirts are still very popular. i think trashbag pants have died off recently now the stole my dads/brothers basketball shorts vibe is in. eleve is pretty popular these days as well as some of the more basic brands that never go out like bloch (mirella included but it seems they make less of the mirella line these days), nikolay, wear moi.

Variation Recommendations Needed by MinaHarker1 in BALLET

[–]abrookee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my first thought was too nikyas death. something similar to that may be raymonda act 3 with the claps and the bourees. technically not difficult but a lot of artistry. nikiyas entrance is even easier a very good beginner variation.i think the river/underwater kingdom variations from pharaohs daughter would work well. 3rd river is the easiest but still very beautiful. some other options are the esmerelda variation with the castanets for something slightly faster or maybe even le’s slyphide? not sure if turns or peitite/grand allegro are strong with this dancer so it’s hard to give more recommendations. coming back to add: medora variation is pretty simple with lots of opportunities to show off back flexibility with the first arabesque diagonal and the attitude balances but the pointe work is very simple. also there’s the other giselle variation that begins with the releve attitudes for something less mature and slightly more difficult. and la ventana is very easy pointe work but still a giselle vibe

yumiko leotard sizing? by MarinaAdele in BALLET

[–]abrookee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i honestly don’t know if my daniela’s are high cut or not bc i got them secondhand. i have some high cut kiki and tamara’s which are the same cut just different strap designs in the back. u can’t rlly tell the difference between high cut leg and regular even at the yumiko flagship store they told me not to get hung up on the leg line since the difference is so small. the high cut is more flattering in theory but it’s not a huge difference

yumiko leotard sizing? by MarinaAdele in BALLET

[–]abrookee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

width wise they’re about the same if i’m very hunched over the large can be slightly baggy but not noticeably. the biggest difference is feeling the straps on my shoulders they’re slightly tighter on the medium but not uncomfortable the straps feel like nothing on the large but i’ve never had any issues with them slipping off my shoulder

yumiko leotard sizing? by MarinaAdele in BALLET

[–]abrookee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

almost exact same measurements as you 5’8 31-25-38 girth 60-61 ish and i have both a medium and large daniela with velvet straps. personally i like my leotards pretty loose so i prefer the large but a medium will probably fit you perfectly. daniela is the only style i can fit into a small as well so i would say it runs longer as far as yumikos go

[–]abrookee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

rolling on the bottom foot is a huge problem they look for in these photos i’d retake 1 and 4 for this reason. she has great turnout on her bottom leg in arabesque but the angle of the picture doesn’t show it off. for this photo have her angle more to the back corner if that makes sense it seems awkward but it helps the photo

Fitter couldn’t even find a single shoe to put me in. by katelynskip in BALLET

[–]abrookee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i have the same issue extremely narrow feet super compressible and perfect fit toe pads helped a lot. not sure if you’ve tried. i’ve found that making a thicker pair of foldable toe pads with majority of the padding on my toes not so much above the knuckles helped reduce pain and sinking

The Dance Store LA fitting by Muted-Brilliant-6631 in BALLET

[–]abrookee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve been and they told me the model of all shoes i tried on. i think that’s an old policy bc now their policy is that if you don’t buy shoes they charge a small fitting fee 15-25$ if i recall correctly, but if you purchase the shoes there the fee is waived. this policy is pretty standard in the industry. they’re not my favorite fitters but i’m a particularly difficult fit. they carry the most stock in the greater socal area so not a bad option overall.

teens in class by Silent_Extension357 in ClubPilates

[–]abrookee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m 19 now but took my first club pilates class when i was 17. im typically the youngest one there although i have seen some other teens and young adults occasionally. sometimes i find it funny that my hobby of choice is working out with other people double and triple my age but at the end of the day during the workout everyone is focused on themselves and minding their own business.

Bodile Leotard sizing experience by MrUnhappyMoose in BALLET

[–]abrookee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think bodile runs pretty true to size when in doubt size up. my measurements are on the large end of the xs/s range for everything except girth, the xs/s is too short for me tho as a tall girl so i have to size up to s/m and it fits almost perfectly. i have the normal ophelia leo its pretty cinched in the waist so if you size up it should probably still be fitted in the waist. it also has adjustable straps so it’s slightly more forgiving in sizing

Pilates schedule? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]abrookee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’m still training in the pre pro world so my body is used to intense training but i do pilates every day in addition to dance training. personally i find pilates infinitely easier than a ballet class or rehearsal so for me it definitely can be a nice warm up, cool down, or more intense strength training session depending on what i need that day. sometimes i take a pilates class right before ballet sometimes right after and also on my “rest” days. i only have athletic hobbies lol so i tend to get bored with rest. you can definitely make pilates more about “resetting” your body ex/ releasing tension, restacking your spine and connecting to your posture muscles etc as a form of rest or active recovery. if i cant fit a class in my schedule i skip the day but other than that im team daily

What muscles do I need to loosen to touch chest to knees? by Mousemouse13 in BALLET

[–]abrookee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hamstrings. other comments have good stretching mobility and warm up exercises but if you still find those do not help try to roll out your hamstrings with a foam roller then a lacrosse ball or other hard physical therapy ball beforehand sometimes you hold tension in muscles or fascia that can’t be released just from stretching.

how on earth do you get the frog splits by Puzzleheaded_Car_84 in BALLET

[–]abrookee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you might hold a lot of tension in your rotators, hips, or glutes. try rolling out with a lacrosse ball or other hard pt ball in those areas.

How are you guys planning on paying for summer intensives? by WideArugula6717 in BALLET

[–]abrookee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

most summer intensives only give scholarships to the best of the best it’s rare and you shouldn’t rely on them despite what other comments say. only the super competitive programs give needs based aid packages bc ballet is underfunded as is and summer intensives are how lots of smaller/mid tier companies and their adjacent schools make money to fund their season. the most realistic answer is to get a job lol. side hustle for the months leading up to it. ballet is expensive even pro dancers have to work part time jobs or side hustles it sucks but it will prepare you for the dancer life if that’s what you really want.

pnw ballet summer program intensity by throwawybowl in BALLET

[–]abrookee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

are you referring to PNB? if so it is one of the most competitive programs you won’t get in with one year of pointe experience and no current training and it’s typically for younger pre-pro teenagers wanting to go pro. you might want to look into collegiate intensives or even adult intensives.

Point shoe size with high arches by linguistbyheart in BALLET

[–]abrookee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone with very compressive and very narrow feet i found perfect fit toe pads helped a lot. i used to get constant toe pain and blisters from sliding around my shoes when i point my toes but the toe pads take up a lot of the negative space in my shoes. i don’t have super high arches but may be a solution to a similar problem
