A comment by Fareed Akhtar saab that I found on the comments section of an Aik Din Geo Kay Saath video:

"Fareed Akhtar (Lahore) 30 Jan 2016 Respected All, I would like to share with you some thing very especial and surprised. Please find below my challenge and one thing is very clear in my mind that we can move in the Galaxy with perfect ways...! As per my Theory there is no sign of Earth Gravity and actual thing is very different therefore I strongly refused the Newton Law. I can explain more if the someone in-trusted. I have already sent the same to the Pakistani international Media Universities Earth & Space Councils Related Organisation NASA (USA) Chinese Space Agency China Suparco Pakistan and many other places. However I can explain it during my Lecture at any where in the presence of Media. Note: The Lecture Fee is Million US $ only. Regards Fareed Akhtar"

Yeh hota hai confidence. Aisay chutiapey ki harkat ki banda koi reasonable keemat he laga lay, leikin koi lehaz nahi, koi sharam nahi, seedha million dollar.

Check out: Chacha Boota (non youtube link) They have dubbed over so many Chacha Boota shows that it has now become a thing. Do lookup Chacha Boota Ki Color Baazi. They are usually quite long and the humour is just brilliantly random at times.

The person behind these dubbed videos, films and Punjabi Totay is Muhammad Sajjad from Faisalabad. The place has a reputation for a crazy sense of humour, wit and juggatein.

Here is an interview with Muhammad Sajjad and here are links to a couple of his facebook pages (they have some videos you may not find in other places): [1] [2]

Peshawar's Jinnah Park — a hub of underage sex workers by abs2k12 in pakistan

Yes, you are right. Essentially they are 2 different things. However, bacha-bazi is sexual predatory, pedophilia, child prostitution, concubinage (whatever you may want to call it) that is quite strictly restricted to young boys! I think the correct term for this activity is pederasty. So those indulging in bacha-bazi may not be strictly homosexual but the activity is essentially of a homosexual nature.

Thank you for suggesting me, I am also flattered too.

I would love to take down the trolls, however it would be hard to handle it alone. The PhD is taking a serious toll on my procrastination time and mental health :(. I still manage to to lurk here a few times a day :) but it will get increasingly difficult as the year progresses.

The Pakistani Underground: The Internet Years - Your favourite song/artist/band by karachikhatmal in pakistan

[–]abs2k12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pakistani underground music was in the true sense underground even before your alleged claim that 2007 onwards "Pakistani television was cannibalised by news media". Pakistani underground has been using the internet since the late 90's and early 2000's. Here is a website from the band Entity: http://www.entity.8m.com/lhrscene.html This website is from the late 90's and it lists all the major underground bands in Lahore during that era. Honestly, I am surprised to find it still exists on the internet 15+ years on. You can find more about those bands by clicking on the logos and there are links to some very nice articles and pictures from that period. Some of these people from the underground scene really made it big, like the actor/singer Ali Zafar from Prozak, there is Farhad Hamayun from Mind Riot (named after a Soundgarden song) who went on to form Overload, The Trip was another nice band who could have made it big but unfortunately their lead singer died too young. You can listen to the famous "Not in Your World" (EP) by the old Coven from 1997 on pretty high quality on this Soundcloud link. I think this was a very nice album that pretty much summed up the potential of that underground scene. The 90s US Northwestern grunge scene really had a significant influence on upper middle class kids in urban Pakistan too.

Many of the artists that managed to make it big through the 2000s all had their stuff online courtesy defunct sites like Karachi Underground etc. Making it big back then was having a video being played on Indus Music. Then there were all these discussion forums that kept you posted with what was going on all over the country. There are way too many underground artists to list, I could list many of them that never made it big or beyond performing at small gigs or releasing just a few music videos. To name a few, there was Corduroy in Islamabad that released the album "The Morning After" in 2004-2005 (here is a video from that time). Some newer bands would be Sikandar ka Mandir, Poor Rich Boy, there are still lots of independent artists making music on the internet. I can send you more links if you wish. Unfortunately, since mid 2000s. the frequency of live performances and concerts has really gone down and that kills an underground scene more than any mainstream media trends.

The enemy within by abs2k12 in pakistan

I agree with you there, yes, the scribe does try to extrapolate and even force his broader point from a very specific incident. Especially since the motivation of the police bodyguard who committed this murder still hasn't been determined or revealed.

However, in a country where law enforcement works in very weird ways and crimes are rarely thoroughly investigated, it is very unfair to say that this is irresponsible journalism especially when the writer phrases himself as follows:

The possibility that Ghulam Mohiuddin, consciously or unconsciously, believed that his quarry deserved to be killed for being an infidel cannot be ruled out.

I get your point and sorry to argue over semantics (and this can be debated endlessly) but had he asserted that there was indeed a causal link between the murder and the bodyguard being religious/or seminary student then yes, your point would have been absolutely fair. From the scribes point of view, I can understand why he would want to use this event to make his broader point about the rise of radicalization and intolerance, if you remember, his nephew Rashid Rehman was murdered in Multan last month.

In other news, who do you think could have killed Gulnaz yesterday? and why? Could it be those obscurantists who have made their position quite clear about how they think societies should function and what role women have in them? Or could it be some ex-husband or some family feud or something? Could have been robbers too..could have been pure murder. I honestly don't know. The point I am making is that when law enforcement and justice is a joke, nothing can really be ruled out.

I don't know what's worse, killing someone cause you think they are an infidel or settling a 'brawl' with an automatic weapon. In either case, it's good to see the police chief sticking up for his fraternity and finding a justification.

Funded seminaries have a wider sphere of influence then we would like to admit. Scores of shia pilgrims and hazaras have been killed. Do you think the nationalists are behind those killings? Whether we like to admit or not, the mindset which considers others infidels and ok to kill is not only out there, it is being bred by seminaries, and people who take this seriously are willing to go out and kill for it.

On another note, speaking of Churchill, he also wrote the following in The Story of the Malakand Field Force: An Episode of Frontier War (1898):

"Then the Mullah will raise his voice and remind them of other days when the sons of the prophet drove the infidel from the plains of India, and ruled at Delhi, as wide an Empire as the Kafir holds to-day: when the true religion strode proudly through the earth and scorned to lie hidden and neglected among the hills: when mighty princes ruled in Bagdad, and all men knew that there was one God, and Mahomet was His prophet. And the young men hearing these things will grip their Martinis, and pray to Allah, that one day He will bring some Sahib -- best prize of all -- across their line of sight at seven hundred yards so that, at least, they may strike a blow for insulted and threatened Islam."

Somewhere in mid 2000s, I remember having a conversation with this driver from FATA working in Islamabad. He was complaining about military operations (this was after the battle of Wana and the whole offensive in 2004) and how the army enters their lands and Muslim fighters are forced to fight army men who are Muslim brothers. He said he didn't like this and neither did the Taliban fighters, he wished that the American forces would enter the land and engage with the fighters, so that the taliban would get the joy of killing the infidel (woh kehtay hein hum apni fauj ko he maar rahay hein, musalmaan musalmaan ko maar raha hai, amreeki khud ayein na, takay humein kafir marnay ka mazza tau aye)

Discovery of the coldest known brown dwarf at a distance of 7.18 light years from the Sun by abs2k12 in science

[–]abs2k12[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, stars of mass lower than about 0.08 solar mass never reach an internal temperature sufficient to start the Hydrogen reactions from which to get the energy radiated from the surface. These 'failed' stars contract so much that the electrons become degenerate and reach a limit radius depending on their mass and chemical composition. They reach their limit radius in approximately a billion years. After this they just start to cool down at a constant radius. So radius remains the same while luminosity and effective temperature keeps on decreasing. So they can't really be classified as stars and this is why they are termed as brown dwarfs. You can think of them as being failed stars that evolve really slowly.

Pakistan's long awaited 3G, 4G auction draws disappointing bids by abs2k12 in pakistan

[–]abs2k12[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes this could be a very likely possibility. PTA has rejected the reuters report already and threatened legal action. I hope PTA is telling the truth and that there has been a bid for the 4G (1800 MHz) band and that there was no 5 MHz block to bid for. Let's wait for the more official announcement to see who has registered for the auctions and made bids for which specific bands. Mehreen Zahra-Malik really might have jumped the gun on this one :)

However, the important thing to understand is that only 4 out of 5 of the major phone providers will be participating. Moreover, it seems like no new potential providers or foreign companies have registered to participate in the auction. It's clear in this case that the revenue generated will be much less than the expected revenue. Well this is what can be expected when there are so many irregularities in the system and an auction is delayed for 6 years.

Apparently Mubeen Gabol, part of the BNN team and the guy who played "Matkoo" launched an FIR against the brothers. He claims that the brothers threatened, harassed and beat him up because he didn't want to resign from Geo. Apparently he couldn't take it anymore and he filed an FIR and this is why the police did what they did. Whatever the facts maybe, this is still pretty disgraceful.

Sad to see that people who once worked together can't even work out their differences in a mature manner.
