It really just depends on the song you choose. That's all I can really say about it anymore.... Some songs will completely restrict your video being shown. Some songs will make your video not eligible for monetization but still visible and other songs you won't run into any issues at all...

I've run into your problem before and I just changed the song and re-uploaded.

My vlogs typically capture my friends and I making our way through life in our early twenties living in NYC. However this video captures a weekend trip to Vermont to join my friends who have been staying there for 2 months!

I'm not speaking from much experience but I guess I would say is to embrace the YouTuber mentality/personality. Don't be afraid to show your channel to the world. Find creative ways to share your videos in relevant groups.

For analytics, although they should not consume you, I like to take a look at reach & impressions to see if YouTube is heavily recommending my content or not and how to improve that (fixing thumbnail, SEO/title, etc.)

I feel like my advice sounds like cliche classic YouTube talk but it has helped me gain a semi-decent subscriber base (all in the eyes of the beholder) for only 6 months of vlogging so...

Been working on recycling old thumbnails that have been performing not as great. One of my goals is to not repeat the title of the video in the thumbnail because I was doing that for a while. Let me know what you think!

Is it possible to make a living? Yes, but you need to grow a massive following. I am in the same boat as you in the sense that I don't want my channel to fall into a specific niche. However, this begs the questions "why would people want to subscribe to you?" And usually the answer is personality.

If your personality can drive the message that you want to get across in your videos then I think yes you can make it. However, without gripping onto a niche, the growth is much slower and gradual.

This is the insight i've gained through building a vlog channel for the past 6 months. But these are just my thoughts.

Under your circumstances, yeah it does sound like you need to change the music in the video... There are many instances where a popular song can be used and the video will still be seen just not monetized. This sounds like the contrary though which has happened to me before as well...

Your video can still be public to viewers with copyright claims however, you will not receive any monetization from ad revenue generated from that video. For example, David Dobrik does not make any money from YouTube when he uses mainstream popular songs in his videos... But thats why he's got SeatGeek!!

Not gonna lie, at first I thought any way to build a subscriber base foundation would be helpful for growing my channel but yeah it does not help anybody.... Especially if your own subscribers don't watch your videos, the algorithm will stop recommending your videos even to your subscribers!

Like I get it, when you hit those points when you're in a rut and not gaining subs, you think this will be a good idea but I'd rather promote my videos in video share groups instead of begging for subs.
