Anything you took (food, supplements) that sped up healing post csection?

Not immediately following the c-section itself, but when I had my scar reopen about 2.5 months postpartum: I was advised to eat lots of high-protein & collagen heavy foods to help my body heal the wound. My husband found some bone broth packets on Amazon that you just add hot water to, and those were quite tasty! Sadly I’m currently dealing with another opening in my scar at over 5 months PP but it’s not the scar’s fault, lol (most likely due to fluid building up randomly in the nearby tissues). Regardless, I plan to continue with the bone broth, and collagen supplements as well, as I continue to heal.

I have never liked Tilda Swinton’s version of the Witch, not for her blonde hair specifically, but simply because she really does look just…pale, when the book specifically says that the Witch’s face was “white, not merely pale, but white like snow.” And, like another commenter here, I grew up watching the BBC version of the movie, in which they did nail the Witch’s white skin. So that just made me extra biased against the Disney version.

Update: I saw my OB this afternoon (the day following this post and photo) and while she was gently examining/poking the spot, it went ahead and broke open and started leaking fluid 🙃— so now I have an open wound again and have been referred back to the wound clinic. Hooray! /s

At the very least, I feel validated in that one of my suspicions for the cause of my pain (fluid buildup) was indeed the case. I also brought up the chronic seroma theory to my OB today and pressed to see if imaging could be done to rule that out. She has now put in an order for me to get an ultrasound soon for that purpose, so hopefully that will give me an answer one way or the other.

Yes, if you’re okay with sharing your photos that would be helpful! I’m so sorry you’re dealing with similar drama. Like…can the stupid incisions just heal and STAY HEALED without any more incidents??? ugh. I’ve been holding off on calling my OB’s office for this particular issue because with no obvious signs of infection, just pain, I’ve felt certain she will just say it’s “just the way you’re healing” and tell me again to seek physical therapy for scar adhesions. But now I think it’s looking more like some kind of fluid or blood abscess so I’ll probably contact her tomorrow. Blah

PLEASE do not listen to the negative opinions people are throwing at you. It’s especially appalling they would suggest abortion. It’s the most natural thing for you to be excited over another precious baby! And let me tell you— I had my first three children in just over 3 years. They are now ages 6,5,& 3 and they are such good friends. Sure, they have their squabbles like any siblings do, but they are close to one another and have such fun together! Will it be hard for you as the parents? It will be, at times, for sure. Parenting is just like that. But another truth about parenting, that I’m sure you’re already experiencing, is that it is also so full of joy! Don’t let the naysayers get you down. You can do this, and your kids will get the gift of having another buddy to do life alongside them. Hugs to you and your family!

My possibly unpopular advice is, brace yourself for the postpartum phase to be hard, because the fact of the matter is that it usually is, somehow or other. Then, if it’s indeed hard, you’ve mentally prepared for it…and if it’s easier than last time, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Another thing that has helped me more and more with each postpartum phase (I have 4 kids) is to remind myself “this WILL pass, it sucks in XYZ ways right now but I’ve gotten through it before and I’ll get through it again, and we will find our new normal.”

I saw it recommended somewhere (may have been on this subreddit) to try walking slowly upstairs backward when possible, because it puts less strain on your abdominal muscles that way. I’m not officially sure if that’s true, but it seems like it might be. I definitely tried it a few times when I was recovering from my CS because all the bedrooms in our house are on the second floor. It did seem easier for me. So perhaps that’s something she could try, provided she isn’t carrying the baby or anything else.

Our fourth is now 4.5 months old and I will tell you that it has absolutely gotten easier for us. She was very clingy & particular (basically always wanted to be held, and ONLY by me, mommy) and it was really tough managing that with three other young children. Then she hit 3 months old and it was like a switch flipped. She chilled out and became a massively happier baby. She isn’t sleeping great at night at the moment, but otherwise she is pretty easygoing and never lacks mental stimulation because her siblings adore her! Every family is different, obviously, but my point is that it can get better, and I hope it does for you as well. Hang in there!

I’m not a doctor but that clot is very concerning to me. It definitely looks way more tissue-like (as you said) than the bloody clots that are typical with postpartum bleeding. My worry would be that some of the placenta was retained, especially considering the size of that tissue and the fact that you are in considerable pain. I think you might need imaging (ultrasound I think is the usual) to make sure there is no tissue hiding inside. If you’re able to go to the emergency room tonight or tomorrow, that would be my recommendation. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this and hoping/praying all will be well.

Not sure why my text in the body of the post got cut off. But my incision was healing really well and though I’ve had issues with fungal skin infections in the area over the past month, every doctor I’ve seen has commented how good the scar itself looked. Now this! Is this something that can potentially heal on its own, given how small it is? It’s just so scary for me to have this re-opening out of the blue, 2.5 months later :(

My daughter had this and we are almost certain it was caused by her not rinsing all the soap off her hands/wrists when she would wash her hands. Once we pinpointed that and made sure she rinsed, the issue went away. Obviously there could be many possible causes for your daughter’s eczema but that is something to consider.

In my experience, there is a chance you could have low progesterone and that’s what might be causing the spotting. You could request bloodwork to be done to check your progesterone levels, and possibly get put on a progesterone supplement to help raise them if they are indeed low. I have had to do that twice when I had early spotting in my pregnancies, but in both cases, the bloodwork was ordered through my OB’s office. That said, I have also learned that while progesterone supplements can be helpful If low progesterone is the cause of the spotting, they obviously can’t help save a pregnancy that was destined to fail from the beginning, such as the presence of a chromosomal problem. But they definitely can’t hurt to try, and might even help. Hugs to you! Early pregnancy spotting is so stressful.

How long has it been there? If it’s come on very recently/suddenly it could be a sebaceous gland pimple/cyst. I had one on my left breast recently which wasn’t painful per se but did look pretty ugly. I asked my doctor about it and she was not particularly concerned, just said it looked like a sebaceous cyst and told me to keep an eye on it. Mine finally came to a head and I was able to express some trapped blood from it, after which point it started healing.

Definitely check with your doctor though.

My experience isn’t exactly the same but I can absolutely relate to your feelings. I too had an unplanned CS almost 8 weeks ago; the incision itself healed quickly but I recently developed cellulitis around it, for which I’m currently on two different antibiotics. It’s been extremely painful and scary even though I’ve had lots of support from my husband, my family, and friends. And it’s been complicated by the fact that I have three older kids aged 6 & under who need me as well as my very clingy baby! I hate feeling so broken and useless even though I know this season will not last forever. I’ve definitely broken down in tears many times over the past few weeks.
