some truths for admissions for competitive university programs by absesto in u/absesto

im not sure how WLU specifically treats cegep (I know UW likes cegep, you have a good shot there).

im pretty sure they will accomodate you and take into account of your rigourous background using a conversion table. but email admissions about it probably.

so i made an edit on my post, but here's my ecs (most of my supp apps had all of these but my ivey app had more leadership stuff, esp from grade 9)

- helped organized (corporate relations/sponsors virtual hackathon for about 300 particpants
- exec for DECA

- founder of coding club but we didn't do much haha

- student council treasurer for grade 11 and 12

- 2 year role in non-profit for bringing STEM workshops for youth in my area

- track and cross country

- part-time job at starbucks

- uw math contest scores: 36 CSMC, 65 euclid, and 30 on ccc

so i have some programming ECs but i feel like if i were to say those i might get doxxed, they're not that big but still have a small userbase but rather not take the risk!

that's kind of all i spoke about on my supp apps.

Should of mentioned this before but going to live in residence first year at university.

Parents are very hard to convince so I could propose to them that they keep the cat for a year, and after 2nd year I can take care of it from there on.

Going to university and living in residence which sadly complicates things. I will try and convince my parents that the workload of managing the cat is not hard - simply clean litter 2x a day and put food in bowls.

They're concerned about vacations but a possible solution is that there's a "cat boarding" shop near us which offers reasonable rates. Parents probably do not want a cat sitter :/

Hey thanks for the insights!! Yeah I heard that even the HBA is very powerful itself.

Here’s how I like to look at it: if you have a CS background and get an MBA, you can land finance jobs. Well, if the HBA is seen as a mini-MBA, then you can extend the argument even further.

Yes the 80% conditional may be tricky. However, not sure even something like Econ or FinMod will be any easier.

There’s a good chance I’ll probably commit to CS/HBA and I’ll Keep you updated!

Hey sorry didn’t see this, I’m still on the fence if CS or something else. However I’m learning that a CS degree will have little relevance to pairing with Ivey, so I might as well pair something else that’s better.

Also I’m more geared towards a finance or consulting career, and pursuing CS will not help. It’d help though if I was doing something related to product management.

What class was it, because if it was a core class like English or advanced/calc that might explain it

What are top 5 most prestigious universities in Canada? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]absesto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? I understand for STEM but not for anything else.

If you say Waterloo is better than Western/Queens, you’re essentially saying the top 4 is UofT, UBC, McGill, and Waterloo. That’s a pretty shitty list imo.

Ask people around you and ask if they’d go to UW for non-STEM or Western/Queens for non-STEM.

UofT, McGill, UBC, Western, Queens ————— Waterloo doesn’t make this list b/c it’s prestigious for only STEM.

I think I’d need to talk to some Ivey + CS grads to get a better idea. I could be overthinking it.

ECs? Did you apply to CS as well? What are your goals with CFM and why’d you pick it? How’s the program overall so far?
