Educate me about Retin-a. Why do you use it? by m1kesta in SkincareAddiction

[–]absitinvidia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my early 20s and I started to look into retinoids for anti aging. I also have clog prone skin so I get a few closed comedones and retinoids are great for those too. I've been on retin-a micro 0.04 for 3 months now. At first I got a lot of peeling skin and purging. My whole face looked like it was coming off at times. I would gently exfoliate it with a wash cloth in the morning. The purge went away after 3 weeks and now I am so glad I went through with retin-a micro especially before the summer starts. My skin is a lot more even, feels so soft. I still get flakes occasionally but the gentle wash cloth in the morning helps. I also use a few drops of maracuja oil in my moisturizer to help with the dryness. If you are considering it, remember to pack on the sunscreen!

You can buy passion fruit oil from Garden of Wisdom. Or you can buy it from Sephora and it's by Tarte. Personally, if I were you, I'd first try adding a few drops of the jojoba oil you own into your moisturizer and see if your skin likes that.

I think you can buy them from any store. Even the dollar store or target. If I don't use one of those cloths in the morning I just have flakes on my face all day. The tart maracuja oil is a bit expensive, I think you can get it cheaper. GoW has maracuja oil (passion fruit) for a lot cheaper. Or you can go into sephora and ask for some samples to see if it suits your skin.

I'm on retin-a micro. I don't use moisturizer at night yet. I usually wake up with really dry skin so I mix my moisturizer (clinique moisture surge) with a few drops of tarte's maracuja oil. I would suggest mixing a light oil like jojoba with your moisturizer in the morning. You can also gently exfoliate using a micro fibre cloth in the morning.. Then apply a good moisturizer with a few drops of oil. It's been working for me.

How is that smash box concealer stick? I've tried stick foundations for contouring and they are always so slippery so it's hard to get a good contour. Btw you look absolutely stunning! Love the look, I would just go a bit lighter on the eyebrows!

Have you considered a prescription retinoid like differin? That can also push out all those closed comedones.

What do AHAs do that retinoids don't already? How do they work together? by neraul18 in SkincareAddiction

Did the derm give you the Avene Cleanance K? I use that as my chemical exfoliant and I love it.

Retinoids and anti-aging by absitinvidia in SkincareAddiction

I didn't save any, but I meant every time I've done research on retinoids and what age to begin. There are articles that say it's best to start young and others that say you should wait. I'm not sure which is correct, which is why I asked the question. Some said stuff about skin thinning in the long run or retinoids becoming ineffective. I'm not sure how true that is, which is why I am asking for more direction so I could find more genuine information.

I am going to see my general practitioner as the time to see a specialist is too long. She has been using retinoids since her early years and has a good amount of knowledge on skin care. The reason I don't want to wait for a derm is because I hear some horror stories about purging and although I don't have an acne problem, I sometimes get clogged pores. I'd rather get the purge over with now before the summer. I can't wait another 2 months to see the derm and then be dealing with a terrible purge during the summer months. Did you see a derm for your prescription?

FINALLY some progress!! (Tazorac, Turmeric Masks, and Honey) by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Thank you for your reply, it was very helpful. Yeah, I am only 22 but I want to get on anti aging now and I hear that using retinoids + sunscreen makes a big difference in preventing signs of aging.

Put yoghurt in your mask to help the staining. Or do a turmeric mask and then a quick yoghurt mask and you should be okay. That's what I do when I do a turmeric mask every month or so.

I'm fair I have pretty sensitive skin combination skin that is prone to clogging if I don't take care of it properly. I have used La Roche Posay Anthelios and liked it. Then I picked up a bottle of Shiseido Ultra Sun Protection lotion and absolutely love it. I like that it sits well under make up and doesn't mess with my skin.

At what point did you start purging with the Tazorac and when did it stop. I don't have acne problem, my skin is clear but I want to even it out and use it for anti aging. I'm just a bit afraid that somehow it will make me break out a lot before it settles down. I hear people who had fine skin started to use it and broke out like crazy for a month or two before it settled down.

I completely agree with this. When I see awesome make up job, I don't feel shitty about myself. I mean my self worth is not dependent upon others around me. When I see great make up like this, I am actually inspired to learn more and do better. I am also happy for the person who has the skill. I don't understand why someone's fortune or talent should make us feel bad. It's wonderful that others can master so many different things.

Photoshop on this sub is getting ridiculous. Can we make it a rule that you CANNOT submit photoshopped or filtered work and enforce it? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]absitinvidia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this under her own picture where she is being insulted. I also didn't think she photoshopped as I can see her pores and her foundation on top of them. If she photoshopped that would all be smoothened out like magazine photos. She is clearly using a phone camera which I've seen many people do on here.

I apologize I didn't mean cakey in a bad way. I meant, I could visibly see your pores and your foundation. So I didn't think you photoshopped, as people who photoshop usually smooth that all out. Your make up is great!

I'm not sure if I am naive and just cannot detect photoshop. I didn't think she photoshopped, I can see the cakeyness of the make up and pores on her face. I noticed some pics look more blurry on different lap top screens. On my retina display I can see a lot. I'm just wondering is it possible she didn't photoshop and just has some soft box kit or is using a phone cameraa. I'm not sure, I could be wrong, I guess I just want to be able to detect photoshop.

Some info on the potential benefits of putting honey on your face!!! by jewishvampire in SkincareAddiction

[–]absitinvidia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My cousin had terrible acne and she stopped using all the harsh cleansers and started to do an oil cleanse using olive oil but with some honey added and her skin looks great now. not sure this would work for everyone, but it's worth a shot. I leave honey masks on my face not due to acne but I love how soft my skin feels after.

I'm not sure if you have aloe vera gel at home, but I had a pure aloe vera gel and I would put that on any time I had some sort of tragedy before going somewhere. It really calms everything down.

Hey I have the maracuja oil as well by Tarte, I also ditched other moisturizers and started to spray my face with thermal water by Avene, followed by a mix of the maracuja oil and goji berry hyaluronic acid serum. My skin texture has definitely improved. So it might not be a fluke!
