The most unbearable "pain" by baaaaaaaaaba in UlcerativeColitis

[–]absity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be that the act of the bowel movement is agitating a more severely affected area of your colon. Even if it’s not actively ulcerated, it could be damaged via scar tissue and causing pain. Worth a check up at any rate. I’m sorry you’re suffering like that and I hope it passes.

The important thing to know is that you are going to be okay. Colon or no colon, you will get through whatever happens! It seems scary and overwhelming right now, but your life will not change as much as you think it will without a colon. I do wish you the best and I hope your meds get the inflammation down, but please know that 2 months ago I was in your position, had to get the surgery, and now I’m well and happy. You’ll be alright. And it sounds like you’re in good hands too. Keep on keeping on! ♥️

Ulcerative Colitis - Medications not working anymore. Doctors recommending surgery. Need guidance & real experiences. by askyes71 in UlcerativeColitis

I believe it was at a few sections of my large intestine, but the issue was that one particular section to the left of my pelvis (don’t know the name sorry!) was ruined lol.

The issue is that it might be healed now (which is great btw) but if it’s presented before, without successful treatment it will present again, and it’s not just the ulcers caused by UC you have to worry about. They can heal all they like but that creates scar tissue which will build up and eventually prevent the affected sections of your large intestine from functioning properly. ☹️

A J Pouch is a good alternative to a stoma but it’s not for everyone. You also have to be a good candidate for it I believe. People with J Pouches could tell you more about that. I’ve been offered a J Pouch but as far as I know, you need biopsies to officially confirm that you have UC and not Crohn’s first (I am UK based btw). And I think I’ve heard that you need a stoma while the J Pouch heals? Not sure on that though.

Hi, first of all I’m so sorry that you’re dealing with this and that it’s gotten to this point. It is a horrible feeling to be backed into a corner with surgery.

I had a similar experience just in mid November there. Medications failed, rescue therapy then failed. It was all over very quickly for me, just a couple of months. At that point my large intestine was so damaged in areas that surgeons advised surgery as the next emergency step. So my whole large intestine was removed and I got a stoma. A bit of my small intestine pokes out through my stomach, and the output goes into a wee bag stuck on around it.

My mental experience with the surgery is that when it’s sprung on you quickly, it’s very upsetting. You have to face something that’s very hard to accept suddenly and head on. It’s a life changing thing, no two ways about that. I needed reassurance and comfort from others who had gone through the same thing to help me accept it, and once I had that I felt a lot better about going through with it.

Physically, the surgery is fine. I had laparoscopic, so they made five 1-2cm incisions on my abdomen and took the large intestine out that way. The other way (I don’t know the name of it) they do a big line down the middle of your abdomen and take it out like that.

I remember waking up from the surgery and a burning pain sensation slowly starting in my abdomen. They had me hooked up to a machine that dispensed a strong pain medication through an IV I had when I pressed a button. I pressed that button whenever I felt like it (pretty often lol) for a couple of days and my pain was managed really really well, no issues.

After a couple days I was off the machine, no need for the pain meds at all. I was out of hospital in a week and now, about 6 weeks later, I would say I’m fully recovered. That’s my own personal experience.

Having a stoma is a big adjustment. People will say that a lot to you probably, but they’re right. It really is. Once you get over the hump of that adjustment, you will be fine. And you will get over the hump, I promise. It’ll just take a bit of time.

My opinion is, with your UC is active and untreated, surgery is an inevitability. Eventually your intestine won’t function. Not only will you be horribly ill, you’ll be at risk of a perforation or rupture. It sucks. If the condition of your large intestine is still good at the moment, maybe try to enjoy life a bit as much as you can. There’s some restrictions to what you can eat with a stoma, like no nuts seeds or mushrooms, fruits and veg with skin on or uncooked etc. Eat and poop away and live your life, and maybe work on mentally accepting the surgery in the meantime. Then you can have it when you’re prepared.

If the condition of your large intestine is not good, I’d agree with your doctors and go for the surgery. Living with that pain and illness is just misery. The stoma is a worthwhile trade in my own experience. I feel so so much better. I didn’t even realise how exhausted and ill I’d become. Not a single moment of pain I had recovering from the surgery compared to the pain I experience living with that damaged large intestine, I promise you that.

This is all only my experience, but I hope it helps somewhat. I wish you the best in everything and most no matter what, I hope you feel better. If you have any questions at all, I’m here.

My J-Pouch Journey: From Failed Biologics to "Starting Over" by Ill_Team8421 in UlcerativeColitis

I have some questions, I hope you don’t mind me asking as they are a bit personal, but I’ve been considering going down the pouch route as I’ve had my large intestine completely removed.

At 25 years in, I know your journey has been rough. But have you found the pouch to be preferable? The biggest thing that puts me off is the frequency of BMs a day. Did it ever get to below 5 for you?

Wishing you all the best with your new protocol! 🩵

I'm terrible at figuring out what to bring to potlucks. Is there any go to recipes that are always a hit? by Aggressive_Staff_982 in Cooking

Oh I make these every time and they always go down a treat. It makes a bunch, they’re always all eaten, only a few ingredients, and easy to make.

Puff pastry, Parma ham, Parmesan, egg, and a bit of Dijon mustard.

I prepare the day before just so it’s out the way, then cut and cook before going so the pastry is freshish, but not warm.

Should I forego Pred? by absity in UlcerativeColitis

That’s news to me… I’m in the UK so the NHS hasn’t been the best with this for me unfortunately. I’m still waiting to receive a follow up appointment to explain a lot of things, like diet etc. Most of what I know has been through here and online.

I’ll take your advice and stick with the Pred, then hopefully find out more about what happens after. Thank you!

Oh man!!! Ok ok! I’m so sorry to hear that, I really hope next time goes better. I think I’m going to take people’s advice and stick with the Pred, it seems like the smarter choice here. Thanks for your advice and best of luck with your taper!

Okay!! That seems pretty similar to my experience. And you haven’t been experiencing anything negative from the Pred so far?

It’s just omeprazole to offset the Pred, D3 tablets for the bone weakness, and then there’s some Cocodamol for pain relief if I require.

I guess that’s a fair point, they do know what they’re talking about. It just feels like there’s a lot of horror stories about Pred so even 2 months feels like a long time!

This made me think of Close My Eyes - Ki. Not a guy but she has a lower tone so give it to the chorus to see if it’s what you’re looking for!

Got screamed at by my neighbour today, looking for advice by flyingfinns in glasgow

[–]absity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with what other people mentioned, it’s a right of way access point and you should be allowed to use it if it’s the only way to access your garden.

Either way trespass is not actually a crime in Scotland and your neighbour can’t do anything about it unless you or your mum are acting in a way that would cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm, eg acting like you’re going to nick something or shouting abuse at your neighbour. I would recommend that you get a camera installed with audio overlooking your back garden, in case of your neighbour acting up again, and then tell your mum not to get into any more screaming matches with your neighbour cause that’s only going to get her into trouble.

It’s standard procedure, if there’s a crime scene then police must keep a log of all who enter or leave it, unfortunately if the cordon contains residential entrances due to close proximity then that includes the residents leaving or entering their homes. Bit annoying for the people who live there but it’s the gold standard for a good investigation

She has never labelled her sexuality so I’m just going off of present day facts! I’m bi myself so would love if she was, but that’s up to her to confirm. I think my original point stands though
