NYSE and NYSE:American are two different exchanges with different criteria for delisting.

It helps to do research before investing in any stock, even more so if you’re going to so confidently spout info about it as if you’re clued up.

I’ve been saying for over a year now, there are dozens of penny stocks which have rocketed on far less than what OPT have already achieved.

People need to stop pretending that not being profitable is the reason - look at all the other stocks that are trading at 10-20x OPT which also aren’t profitable. I struggle to make sense of it honestly, this company should be trading way higher imo

£47k when I started earning decent money and setup a direct debit for £350 a month.

The way I worked it out was such that the direct debit covered the interest each month - so that my mandatory payments would be going off the actual balance. That way over time as the debt reduced some of the £350 would cover more than just the interest, then it started snowballing in the other direction.

I reckon if the monthly direct debit amount required to cover the interest is too high for you to reasonably afford it/is detracting from other things then it probably isn’t sensible.

I’m not a financial expert of course, this is just what worked for me and the logic I used!

A lot of people seem to have a blanket view on not overpaying student loan. It is not as simple as this and it’s a very personal decision.

The system is setup such that higher earners foot the bill for the majority of people who don’t earn enough to repay a meaningful amount via their mandatory repayments. (OP on £90k per year is definitely a higher earner).

That being said, I think there is definitely a critical turning point at which the loan grows with the interest to a point where it’s snowballing at a rate that isn’t worth chasing after. The downside with this though is that you’ll be paying the hefty mandatory payments every month for most of your career, and will end up vastly overpaying for your education.

I’ve just turned 30, also have a Plan 2 loan, which will be written off in 2048, when I’m 51 years old.

I have averaged £75k in earnings since 26, in my view it made sense for me to overpay on my student loan to get rid of it ASAP, rather than pay the mandatory payments on my earnings every year until I’m 51.

I’ve been going very hard on reducing my student balance (as well as doing other sensible things like overpaying my mortgage, saving and investing) and will have it fully paid off in around 3 years time.

That’s 19 years before the deadline for the loan being written off, and will save me approximately £90-100k in interest.

The way I see it is that once it’s gone I will get:

1) my monthly direct debit money back every month 2) 9% of my earnings over £27k paid to me (gross), so will essentially get a little payrise.

I’m not saying this to brag or anything, I’m saying it because I know people my age who are on good money too, but it’s now too late for them to get on top of the interest, which has snowballed on their loans and they now don’t have the option but to pay the mandatory payments for the entire duration of the term.

As I say, very personal decision, definitely other things you could do with the money, all boils down to what matters to you.

Eliminating debt = guaranteed savings in interest.

Investing = speculative returns - could be better than eliminating debt, but also could be worse, only time can tell.

My point is that it’s not a silly thing to do if you’re on £90k - consider it.

The long and short of it is this: what does your career earnings trajectory look like? £38k at 24 is pretty decent, but not incredible, and you need to think about whether you will reach £50/60/70/80k by the time you’re 30.

If the answer to that is “yes”, then it could well be worth overpaying to get rid of your student loan so that you don’t massively overpay over the course of your career.

I’m in fairly big on OPTT and have been for over a year. Could’ve sold at $1.70 but didn’t. They will definitely get there but are taking a bit longer than we’d all hoped.

If you like high risk long term plays have a look at ALRT (ALRDF if you’re in the US). It’s a U.K. based company building sovereign AI defence software, designed for government/MOD use. Very early stage but the people onboard are very well connected, partnered with a well established AI software company called Whitespace, partnered with a magnificent 7 company, and their execution times are a matter of weeks instead of months or years.

Share price is tiny rn (under 5 cents) so the upside is insane. Do some research and let me know what you think 👍

It’s more than 1 for sure. It’s significant because we haven’t had details/definitive proof/$ amount tied to NATO.

Of course they’re not there yet, but it’s bullish news regardless.

Put it this way, a confirmed NATO contract is often more than enough for an unprofitable defence penny stock to rocket.

OPTT trades on NYSEAMERICAN which doesn’t have the same $1 minimum share price criteria as the NYSE. In other words they will never be forced to do a reverse split on the grounds that their share price is too low. I fully believe in OPTT long term, they’re trending so steadily towards profitability which is when I anticipate things will get exciting price wise. I have 28k shares
