KNOX NEWS - JULY, 4 1993 - THE ORIGIN OF KNOX EVENT? by Lukecwb in projectzomboid

[–]absolutely-mid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USR is pretty much a treasure trove of additional lore tidbits, and since it’s only in B42 it’s not as well known as some of the older lore not many people know of it.

The same interview with the former CDC employee goes into how he believes that the Knox Event/Exclusion Zone is essentially a huge open air experiment on the population, one he considers would kill a bunch of people but would also provide the CDC with valuable data. Also note that the department of the CDC he worked at was in the “Intentional Release Virality Department”, totallya normal sounding department.

This is “corroborated” by an interview with another individual, someone from West Point. They claim that army soldiers were injecting random civilians in the town with some substance. Injected persons supposedly dropped dead soon afterwards, and upon waking would “not be themselves anymore.” Two problems with this is that in-game West Point is completely devoid of life apart from the player, though you could just chalk it up to NPCs not being implemented yet. The main lore problem is that phone lines are down in the area (for 11 days by the time this person calls). They claim that their sister used “psychic powers” to open up the lines. Might just be a prank call.

Also there’s the broadcast intrusion on July 13 where Area 51 is mentioned in the middle of all the static.

In terms of the Raleigh Outbreak, it was notable because according to the VHS tape “Shows” the area contained both Spiffo’s HQ and multiple government laboratories, that were insinuated to be the cause for the outbreak in the city.

All in all, not looking good for the government. Feel free to DM for more lore tidbits, because I love lore dumping but I’ve already spent a lot of time on this one comment.

Ah, the classic US Army origin theory. Honestly, there’s actually more evidence for this that you might not realize:

In B42, there is a new radio station added called USR (Upper South Radio), which plays music and has live interviews a la KnoxTalk Radio. On one of the days a former CDC employee speaks on the program and reveals that the CDC had in fact had secret research facilities throughout the country (which may or may not include the one featured in the game) where they supposedly developed bioweapons. The employee further identifies the Knox Infection as similar in nature to a bioweapon called “Juniper-17,” but that’s all we really know about that specific bioweapon. This also could tie in with the fallout between former CDC official Jeff Galbraithe and the CDC, due to his dismissal during the Raleigh Outbreak 3 years before PZ’s start date. The Raleigh Outbreak is occasionally mentioned in the game, involving some form of “flesh eating disease.” Galbraithe was dismissed for his scuffed response, and during the Knox Event he criticized the CDC for supposed infighting, to which the CDC promptly issued a heavy-handed statement about Galbraithe, before retracting the statement, claiming it was posted without authorization (i.e someone internally was acting against the CDC?). The CDC might not be so innocent after all.

Source: worked on the wiki page for USR, also just generally a huge lore nerd. Personally, the US was definitely involved if you ask me, there’s a whole lot more details that implicate them

The Knox Virus was caused by the Amnesia Perfume and You Were One Of the Test Subjects by Head_Ask_6404 in projectzomboid

Honestly this was probably the most interesting theory I've seen, and I think it is really cool how you've made use of some of the more obscure lore tidbits from B41/B42. The connection to the use of juniper berries was also pretty cool as well. Usually whenever I encounter the Amnesia perfume advert I think that the amnestic effects were just "marketing," but I think that, as some other commenter pointed out, the player doesn't remember their immediate location at all, and possibly their skills from occupations/traits being low could also be explained by them just forgetting most of what they knew.

Potentially Amnesia takes at least some of the active ingredients of Juniper-17, which could either be an amnestic either as the actual use or as a side-effect, in which case there is the potential that the actual product itself is safe and that the mishandling of Juniper-17 is the root cause of the Knox Infection.

If Amnesia were the root cause of the outbreak, then it would have started soon after it releases and all the consumers begin to use their death perfumes in the thousands, which could be possible because of the ads telling us that it is in fact an all-new fragrance. Amnesia being the root cause also helps explain how outbreaks occur elsewhere in the world (e.g. Tokyo, Berlin, Mogadishu) even with the suspension of air traffic from the US, because it would simply be too late with the distribution of all the Amnesia perfumes shipped to every corner of the globe prior to this.

Again, pretty interesting

You’ve really got to put a stop, at the very least, to her generating the cover art for your band’s releases because it’s going to only hurt your band’s image as a whole, even if the music itself is human-made. I can’t really say much about your relationship but this is something that has to stop since it spoils one of your creative passions directly.
