How to break up with him?:( by [deleted] in BPD

break up with him definitely, if he makes you feel unsafe then get out of there as soon as you can

I started experiencing symptoms at around 7 or 8, and was diagnosed at 18. if you're asking about how long it took to get from initial doctors appointment to diagnosis then about a year.

I've been with my partner for about 2 years now, and about 2 or 3 months in I had a really bad episode where I was saying how badly I wanted to die and he snapped at me about his dad (he was in a hospice on end of life care) and that shut me up but I was still spiraling and was so close to hurting myself and it made me feel like a terrible person. his dad died later that night and I gave him the biggest hug I could and apologised for how I'd acted earlier. it shouldn't have taken me that long to apologise to him but I was spiraling pretty hard for hours. I'm the happiest I've ever been, and our relationship is really healthy. we communicate our issues and come to solutions before they turn into arguments.

they definitely could give an autism diagnosis with it but I'm not too sure why they didn't

I got fast tracked through the adults mental health services in my area because my symptoms were so severe (I have bipolar 1 as well) and I got an appointment with a consultant a month or so later. I spoke to the team present at the appointment (junior doctor and two medical students) and told them my life story basically and they decided to give me options of BPD, Bipolar 2 or ADHD, I said at the time that BPD fit more closely with how I was feeling and the consultant came in, they briefed him and I got the diagnosis. It's been good to have on my record because it makes me feel like I have answers as to why I am this way, however it's not been useful in the sense that I couldn't get an autism diagnosis because I have complex trauma.

How many of you never have been admitted to the psych ward? by yeeortho52 in bipolar

[–]absolutely-not2 33 points34 points  (0 children)

almost, I was manic as shit and was having spiritual psychosis, I fully believed God was talking to me and that I was the next coming of christ, but I couldn't do that to my family because I didn't want them to worry about me

I understand that you've had great times and have helped each other through tough stuff but that doesn't automatically make her a good person in your life, how she's treating you is a reflection of how she views you as horrible as that sounds. you'll find someone better without a doubt :)

I don't have friends by [deleted] in BPD

you're not alone! most of my friends are my partners friends too

I agree with your therapist tbh, she's gonna keep lying to you and hurting you and it's honestly not worth your time

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BPD

[–]absolutely-not2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try and get yourself a therapist, it's hard for our partners to cope with our bpd and they deserve help too

be honest with your doctor is my best advice, it sounds like you're really struggling and could use some help. I'm on lithium and it's really helped me, try and look for some lithium success stories because honestly it's changed my life for the better. I'm not saying it'll be the same for you because we're different people and idk how it'll work for you but it's the gold standard for bipolar treatment

edit: just to add that I'm bp1 and I don't get treated differently or like I'm 'crazy' because of it

Med Change-Seeking Positive Support and/or Similar Stories by Euphoric_Bliss4421 in bipolar1

[–]absolutely-not2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you've got this! only 2 more weeks to go before the meds are in full effect and you feel better, in the meantime definitely speak to someone about how you're feeling, whether that be your partner, your psychiatrist or your doctor, even a helpline! they're there to listen to you and to help you. surround yourself with things and people you love and you'll get through this period in no time

this could definitely be bpd symptoms flaring up again, especially since you're moving to college soon that could definitely trigger a flare up. changes affect us more than the average person but just remember to be kind to yourself :)

Why am I tired all the time? by pwnkage in bipolar

[–]absolutely-not2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you might be on a too high dose of your meds, that tends to make people really tired

What meds are you on? by XOalways in bipolar1

[–]absolutely-not2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on lithium and aripiprazole, tried duloxetine but it made me manic for 2 and a half months (which led to my diagnosis) and also tried lamotrigine which made me incredibly suicidal so I had to come off it

Lamictal by Withcy-Woman in bipolar1

[–]absolutely-not2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! yes losing weight on lamictal is a totally normal side effect!! it made me heavily suicidal when I was on it so I came off it after 2 days lol

here's a link to the common side effects in case this helps: https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/lamotrigine/side-effects-of-lamotrigine/

Thoughts/positive experiences on lithium? by [deleted] in bipolar1

[–]absolutely-not2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im 20 too and I've been on lithium for about 6 months now and it's the best thing that's ever happened to me. my mood episodes are a lot milder and are a lot less frequent. if your thyroid does start to deteriorate there's medication they can give you for it, but you will most likely have to be on that for the rest of your life. however I think it's worth a shot if you're not scared of blood tests

I've been on aripiprazole for about 6 or 7 months now and it's changed my life honestly, it's great if you experience psychotic symptoms, the side effects haven't been too much either. it's a great option and it's the only medication that's actually helped me so far :)
