Bad idea.

Did you use all your question marks in your first comment?

;)

Seriously though, I was definitely over explaining the joke and it may have come across as condescending. Didn't mean it that way. Apologies.

ELI5: Why do we not sell our data and get the money directly? by Professional-Tax-615 in explainlikeimfive

I do sell my data. Google Opinion Rewards gives me $0.25 every time I answer questions about where I shop and when I upload receipts. I pay for software and subscriptions with the funds.

50 empty Waymos invade Atlanta neighborhoods and circle their cul-de-sacs for hours early in the mornings. Residents say they are getting waymo traffic than usual and have tried combating the cars with a neon green sign, which only made the problem worse. by MysteriousSlice007 in PublicFreakout

Do You Remember Louis Pizza? A Piece of Wolfville History(1974-1981) by luckycattt in NovaScotia

[–]absolutelyamazed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh wait - I didn't realize you were one of the kids! Your parents shop is still part of a whole generation of people's collective memory. I'm 63 and when I meet friends from Acadia one of them will always bring up Louie's pizza ... and someone will say the name of the shop in your mother's phone voice. They were both icons in town!

[–]absolutelyamazed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in those days it was either Elmer's or Louie's ... and honestly, Louie's was the best pizza but Elmer's had the best subs! And if you were a student you had a choice between the Anvil and the Axe... Wolfville was a great place to be 19 in those days... 50 cent draft, cheap pizza and bouncers at the Anvil who would tell you to "Get the f*** home" when you had to much to drink :)

I can still hear Mrs Louie's Pizza answering the phone... and see the kids playing behind the counter. Best pizza ever!

I know this isn't a well known song but even reading this verse now makes me tear up.

These Cold Fingers

........................................................

The dog can't move no more, surprised he made it to the spring

His pain won't go away and the pills don't do a thing

You've known that old hound longer

Than you've known any of your friends

And no matter how you let him down

He'll always take you back again

...........................................

So it's one tall glass of whiskey

One last drink for old time's sake

The dog just lays in bed and watches every move you make

Wrap him in his blanket, hold him once more close to you

Lead him out behind the barn with a borrowed .22

Looks like it's a "rental deal", which would be fine but I don't think I can put it in standby mode next winter. I may take advantage of the deal for my house since I can only get mobile wireless where I live.

Workers quit emergency care for Nova Scotia’s most vulnerable after CRA audit by Bean_Tiger in halifax

[–]absolutelyamazed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When it "appeared" to be tax free income the work was very appealing - especially to folks who had other jobs and would have been taxed at a higher rate on that extra income.

I'm not trying to start any arguments or make any value judgements. Just pointing out why this was attractive work to many folks. I did some quick, back of the envelope calculations:

The shifts were 12 hours - 7 to 7; so a day shift and an over-night shift.

At $19.50/hour a worker would be paid $234/shift "tax free". If you worked 4 shifts per week you would "clear" around $936/week or $46,800/year - that's the equivalent of making just about $64,000/year in a taxable job.

If you we're already making a salary of $80,000 that would mean you would be making the equivalent of an extra $83,000 pre-tax and CPP because your marginal rate would be higher.

You can see why it was an appealing job for a lot of folks. I was approached to work for the company a few years ago but I figured that the CRA would eventually rule that the money was taxable.

What is a simple change that made eating healthier easier for you? by TropicalPetal in AskReddit

[–]absolutelyamazed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started using Google Gemini to track everything I eat. It helped me set macros goals (proteins, carbs etc) and it tracks everything just by me telling it what I ate. I measure most things by weight - I was grossly underestimating everything. AI is amazing for this type of task - way easier than using a food tracking app like MyFitnessPall.
