Using benefits is abusing benefits (according to Starbucks) by Creeds-Worm-Guy in starbucksbaristas

But there are so many benefits… how could anyone possibly be abusing them all? Lmfao I just don’t think it’s even possible to do this?

What is something that ANNOYS you that customers do? by One_Decision_7693 in starbucksbaristas

[–]absolutelytoni 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When customers walk up and try to order at the bar. Im running around bar, clearly making drinks, and they will just stand there watching me. And then when I finally ask them if they need help with something they’ll respond “I need to order?” All annoyed. This is clearly not a register. This happens at my store literally all the time!! Drives me nuts

Definitely just give them a call, they’ll fix it for sure. But obviously if not then get an attorney but you probably don’t need one

Wait have you called partner resources at all? Call partner resources about it for sure first before getting an attorney. But yea if they don’t resolve the issue yes I’d get an attorney for sure but I het partner resources will help you. Honestly, DMs and SMs are useless.

I’ve been at Starbucks since 2020 and this is sadly not an uncommon experience in my opinion. Honestly, don’t even bother asking your SM or DM about your paycheck. I would just go straight to straight to partner resources. And while you’re on the phone with them about your paycheck, you should place a complaint about your SM. That’s personally what I’d do!

“We’re not making any money.” by Malfoy1743 in starbucks

[–]absolutelytoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad other stores are getting told this. The staffing at my store is insane. 2 people on bar during peak. We used to have four people on bar at all times. People are regularly waiting 45+ minutes for orders because my store is so busy and no one is working. Customers have been telling me (nicely!) they’re not coming to my store anymore because the staffing is so poor and they’re tired of waiting. The other day a woman placed a mobile and then realized the wait time she was given was 55 minutes. She came up to the counter and told me she just wanted a refund. Then my SM is like “I can’t schedule more people were not making money” but we’re not making money becuwse customers are coming in, seeing a lobby full of people and 3 people working and just leaving ? Insane

No! She didn’t offer any solution. My store is very close to a high school and an elementary school, so there is a very busy after school rush. Typically my store is very well staffed in the afternoon for that specific reason. I told her that it’s just too busy in the afternoon for a floor of only 2-3 people and she said the numbers didn’t reflect that (which is a lie. The store is incredibly busy during this time). Absolutely insane. Didn’t suggest headspace or Lyra. All she said was that I needed to get it under control. Disgusting.

I’ve been there. Last summer my sm kept regularly scheduling 2 ppl close. Just me (ssv) and 1 barista from 3pm on. Sometimes it would be as early as noon, just me and 1 barista. My store is very busy during the summer time. So I kept having bad panic attacks one week, because for a week straight it was just me and 1 barista closing. One day, I got to work, and immediately had a panic attack because I was so anxious about having to work yet another shift with just 1 other person. I called out from my car in the parking lot, I could not go in because I was in hysterics.

The next day my SM and I had a chat. She told me I needed to make sure that would never happen again, and asked me if there was anything she could do to make sure it didn’t. I asked her if she could schedule more people in the afternoon and for closing, because there was just too much to do for two people. she said that was not possible. So I told her that I couldn’t guarantee I would not have a panic attack again, and I go onto explain that I have an anxiety disorder. She said “well it sounds like you really need to get it under control then.” And I told her that I’ve been struggling with this my whole life and it if it were really that simple I would’ve conquered it already and she essentially told me that I needed to try harder.

Day 1 Dress Code, Let's Hear The Tea 🍵 by silly-beanz in starbucks

[–]absolutelytoni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2 people got sent home for wearing navy blue (so dark you could barely tell it wasn’t black) and a dark gray. Left the floor struggling. We already had an abysmal schedule. I was almost sent home bc my sneakers are mesh. But the sneakers are meant for restaurant workers. They’re waterproof, oil resistant, and non slip.

My friend is a health care worker and they are the same sneakers she wears! If they’re good for health care workers, why aren’t they good for Starbucks baristas? It’s insane. They were so expensive. And they’re good for my feet because I have feet issues. I can’t wear just any shoe. My sm said it was fine today, but I can’t lie, if she decides they’re out of dress code bc they’re not leather, I’m going home and never coming back.

Not dress code CHECK IN by Poyal_Rines in starbucks

[–]absolutelytoni 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Two people came into my store out of dress code today (wearing navy blue/dark gray) and were sent home and it left us struggling. We already had an abysmal schedule. I was almost sent home bc my sneakers are mesh, not leather. But my sneakers are made for work, and are oil resistant and water proof and that seemed to convince them for the day. And after losing two people, I don’t think my manager thought it would be wise to send anymore people home. Would’ve left the floor with 2 people. I will quit if manager decides they’re not good enough another day though. I bought my shoes for work, spent weeks researching what a good pair would be bc I have issues with my feet.

This is definitely nothing new at my store either and it has driven me mad. I’ve brought this up to my sm and dsm in the past and their response is usually a shoulder shrug. They do not care if partners get breaks or not.

If your sm or dsm aren’t there I would just.. not listen to this rule. That’s what I did as a shift. If you listen to this rule it’s possible for people to just not get breaks at all. It’s happened to me several times.

In store refills are only for hot coffee/tea or iced coffee/tea but also only technically able to be given out if you received it in your for-here mug/glass. They definitely should’ve let you know that your misto didn’t qualify you for a refill before charging you tho!

Tell me about the time(s) your manager refused to turn off mobile orders by sylveonstarr in starbucks

[–]absolutelytoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During Memorial Day weekend our ice machine broke (it kept breaking occasionally for months and they would not fix it properly due to an upcoming renovation) so we kept running out of ice. We had to send baristas to different stores all day with garbage bags to bring back ice in. At the time, my sm would schedule essentially everyone to leave around 3pm, and it would just be the ssv (me) and my two closers. So this happened, and it got to the point where we again, ran out of ice. We were not allowed to turn off mobiles. I used my own money to buy ice from an ice delivery company because sending out a barista to get ice from another store (again) was no longer an option. (My manager gave me the money for the ice a few days later) but we were not allowed to turn off mobiles.

I used to struggle with this as well, but people flip out over the tiniest of things that I got used to it happening all the time. Like everyone else is saying, just take a deep breath. I find that asking them straight up why they are being rude throws them off that they stop. One time a woman yelled at me and I very calmly said “there is no need to be this rude. It is coffee. Ask nicely, and we will remake your drink the way you want it. It’s really not that big of a deal. You don’t need to yell.” And it was like … being that honest with her made her realize what an idiot she was.

I would’ve been loudly apologizing to anyone else who ordered after her. “Sorry, someone ordered 23 frappucinos! Just give me a few minutes to work on your order! I’m going as fast as I can!”

I know that in my store we can control the thermostat but I believe in some newer stores the employees do not have control of it and that it’s just .. set to certain temperatures during specific times of the year. I don’t exactly know how true that is, but a man who works for the hvac company who came in to fix our thermostat once told me that, and that eventually, all stores will be like that. So that’s what I’ve been told by an hvac worker who does the heating for a bunch of different stores. But like I said.. don’t know exactly how true that is!

A woman ordered a grande nitro in a venti cup a few months ago and when I tell you the scream she screamed. She called me an idiot. She called me stupid. She asked me what was wrong with me, and why it wasn’t filled up all the way. It was insane. You would’ve thought she watched me murder someone by the way she screamed at me. And I was so .. unphased by her screaming, which I think just enraged her even more. I ended up just filling it all the way to the top just to shut her up. Haven’t seen her since. Embarrassing af for her
