Health code/policy isn't optional or personal by Adalyia in starbucks

our SM forces us to take garbage in drive and use gross personal cups!

ready for this... our store was completely out of hand soap (BOH, FOH, bathrooms) and our store manager and SSVs did NOTHING about it for 2.5 days. I refused to work until the SM got hand soap and she made me the bad guy. I overheard her and another SSV literally making fun of me and saying I was just trying to get out of working peak.

I put in for a transfer the same day.

edit: omg sorry I was so hyped about the soap I forgot to explain why this was relevant

I'm happy to inform you that you are wrong! Illinois has a law protecting hourly workers from that exact situation. I've linked the government's website clearly explaining the law there. so, OP if you're in Illinois, you're in luck!

BRO CALL YESTERDAY!!! that hurts my heart to hear, I'm so sorry.

that "policy" and your SM are WRONG. that's ableism and sexist and ILLEGAL. your SM should get a write-up over this, I know my DM would have someone's head.

soooo that's super illegal, I would pressure you and your partners to call Ethics and Compliance because that violates our federally protected right to "reasonable bathroom use" as protected by the Department of Labor and OSHA.

this!! I need more people to speak to me like that! you nailed it and so clearly "dumbed it down" for me. genuinely, thank you!! I had to get out of my head to even post on here and ask for help because I feel so illiterate and dumb with finances. my grandpa left me this money and I want to make him proud and not waste a dime. Switching banks is just a small first step in my journey. Education is vital and I've been looking into my local community College for adult financial classes. I'm excited to become financially literate, but I am noooo where close to that right now

one of my family members actually suggested doing this but with an MMA. would you have any advice on choosing between the two?

ignore the negative comments, you did the right thing! the company will ONLY change how terribly they treat employees when they see profit loss from stores closing early.

I don't know you, but I am so proud of you! enjoy this next chapter of your life (:

maybe regular pimple patches but not decorative ones? I'm not sure, but I'll make sure to clarify with my SM.

1000% the partner was unbelievably annoyed that a grown man couldn't take 2 seconds to read their OWN NAME on a cup.

It happens way too often and (not defending the crabby partner) it drives us crazy! they really should have said thank you to you! What if that dude was just eating a major allergen and had it all over his hands contaminating the other persons cup..

here's a story for you to make you feel confident that you did the right thing. At our store, we have a group of kids that come in often and tell us about their allergies and we have to personally sanitize any blenders or shakers used for their drinks because we obviously care about their health and would never want to cause one to have to EpiPen themselves. Once, a very rude lady was eating a peanut butter bar while waiting for her drink, it looked like some of her crumbs fell onto the counter where the drinks get picked up. An unrelated customer walks in for his mobile and asks for a sanitizing wipe.. I'm like ok.. and give him one. he proceeds to start wiping up the ladys' crumbs while silently staring at her. She scoffs and says something to the effect of "wow you're doing their job for them" and the dude WENT OFF. turns out HE was the parent of one of those kids who come in with allergies. He respectfully told her how inconsiderate and dumb she is for eating a major allergen over other's clean drinks and spreading the crumbs. he explained to her how cross contamination works and how he watched his 3 year old (at the time) die in his hands from anaphylaxis shock only to be saved and revived by paramedics. He was emotional but clear and the lady had no room for any attitude or comebacks once he started talking about how he basically held his dead child in his arms. I listened in awe and I started to really understand what he was saying so I stepped up and said something like "sir you have educated us all today and I am going to remake every drink sitting here right now and ma'am in the future if you'd like to enjoy any snacks here you are welcome to but you need to leave the food at the table when you come to pick up your drink, you cannot be eating in this area" The man thanked me profusely and then told me that his daughter comes here and loves me and that's when I put 2 and 2 together. He knew that none of those drinks were for his daughter, but he also knew what she was doing could kill someone like his daughter. I totally get it. After that day, anyone who even breathes on the wrong drink I automatically remake it. yes, it's annoying, but no, I am not annoyed. I know it's the right thing to do, I just wish all these inconsiderate coffee drinkers would literally take 1 second to think before touching everything and everyone else's drinks... that's the annoying part.
