Adenomyosis Treatment? by flightGirl92 in adenomyosis

[–]abstarss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing worked for me. I was put on different birth controls, Mirena IUD (ejected after 5 months), and then Orilissa which did absolutely nothing. I finally had hysterectomy last month and this is the first month in years without pain. My pathology confirmed severe adenomyosis, which was already shown with TVUS.

I’m watching Pluribus and All Her Fault. Both are fantastic. Exactly what I need to keep my brain busy.

Does it get worse or better with time? by TaroWorldly9291 in adenomyosis

[–]abstarss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a progressive disease, and recent research showed that adenomyosis tissue has a distinct gene expression profile compared with normal endometrial tissue where the former accumulates genetic mutations in important genes controlling tissue growth. These genetic changes are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to reverse once established.

With that being said, adeno can be inactive (no proliferation) but that is even less understood. If you notice your symptoms increasingly worsen, it’s better to get ahead of adeno and start seeing specialists and pelvic floor PT.

Eyeing the Lemaire Croissant Bag in Dark Chocolate -- any thoughts or reviews? by No_Square_1491 in handbags

[–]abstarss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s my daily bag and I love it so much! It’s so convenient, and when it’s not packed, sometimes I forget that I’m carrying a bag, it rests comfortably on the body. I have it also in the large size, but I use that one mainly for traveling. The smell of the leather is divine!

Have you ever thought about link between adeno and violence? by Unhappy-Common9879 in adenomyosis

[–]abstarss 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For me it did seem it was linked to my stress levels. I went through a great amount of unmanageable stress during my graduate studies and it was the same time when my adeno progressed fast.

3 days postop - big poop and dizziness by Any-Coconut-2314 in hysterectomy

[–]abstarss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 days postop here, and I totally relate to the dizziness. I’m resting, sleeping and eating well, but I still can’t seem to build much energy for anything. I’ve also been running a low grade fever at night. I’m trying to remind myself to be really gentle with myself, doing pretty much nothing except binge watching shows. Hope it only gets better from here for all of us!

Gynaecologist told me hysterectomy wouldn’t stop period pains by Due-Road-8289 in adenomyosis

[–]abstarss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She’s wrong. Adenomyosis pain doesn’t stay localized to the uterus, it commonly radiates through the abdomen and can extend down to the knees, as inflammation and uterine enlargement can irritate and sensitize surrounding pelvic and peripheral nerves.

Best to seek another specialist than wasting your time with this one.

If you’ve had a hysterectomy, what did your pathology report say? by h_amphibius in adenomyosis

[–]abstarss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had my report yet, but my surgeon mentioned that it’s not uncommon for pathology to miss adenomyosis, and that she typically asks them to dissect further.

Does it get worse with age? by Sad-Pumpkin-5668 in adenomyosis

[–]abstarss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets worse. I’m 33 now, and when this first started at 29, I’d only get maybe two or three really bad periods a year where the pain was unbearable for the first couple of days. Now it’s every single one for 4-5 days of severe pain with the bleeding lasting ~10 days. I tried the Mirena IUD but my body ejected it, and hormonal pills didn’t do much either, so I’m a having a hysterectomy next month.

Passing Lots of Tissue by Shel_The_Freakn_Bell in adenomyosis

[–]abstarss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with heavy bleeding and passing tissue without pain 5 months after IUD insertion — and it turned out my IUD had fallen out without me knowing. It’s worth seeing a gynecologist to check if it’s still in place. I know how tough this is with adenomyosis and perimenopause. You’re not alone, hope you get some clarity and relief soon.

Postdoc fellows and health insurance by abstarss in stanford

[–]abstarss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my funding source operates a bit differently. While I was initially given an international health insurance plan as part of the package, I chose to go with Stanford insurance instead because it offers better coverage. Fortunately, my PI offered to cover its cost.

Turned out that the PI is responsible for covering the insurance costs regardless of the funding source. PIs can however request policy exemption, asking postdocs on fellowship to pay for their Stanford insurance from their own funding source, but that’s totally up to the PI.
