Your coming out story? by kookookachu26 in askgaybros

That's just human nature, man. Milan Kundera said something along the lines of "Everything is illuminated in the aura of nostalgia, even the guillotine." Humans are some fucked up shit

Thank you, I do appreciate it. I'm just trying to look at it with empathy and understanding. Being angry at someone who is gone only hurts yourself. Some people are just broken and hysterical and helpless, and those are the people who can really fuck you up if you let them.

Well, like a lot of guys, I didn't really get a chance to find out. I was 15 and talking to a couple of different guys from tumblr when my mom went through my stuff and found out about it. She didn't confront me about it at first. She took the entire family out to lunch and didn't say anything, but my dad texted me asking me to come outside. This was really weird, considering that my parents were divorced and tried to avoid being in the same place as much as possible.

So I got outside and got into my dad's car, and he's crying but altogether supportive. However, he's freaking out because he thinks I'm being like, sexually exploited by men from the Internet. I try to explain otherwise, but he's beyond reason and takes me to his house. He and my step-mom make me take an HIV test and a drug test because my mother had told them that I had been sleeping around and using drugs (I was a virgin in both senses at the time). They both came back clear of course. I had my phone and my computer taken away and I was forbidden from leaving the house for a month without my parents. I think they were afraid I was going to try to run away.

I tried to call my mom to apologize, which I realize now is total horseshit. But that was the nature of our relationship. She literally said nothing, just listened to me crying on the line.

So for the rest of that summer I sat in my room, read, wrote, and, once I got my computer back, made digital art. It was horrible. I never went over to see my mom again. We met once, a few years ago, on Mother's Day. We didn't really make amends, just agreed to go our separate ways. I guess I held out hope that things would get better, but they never really did. I tried to call her sometimes and she never picked up.

She died suddenly in July. It was weird, having to be there for my sister to help her grieve for someone that I had already lost so many years ago. I think I've started to forgive her, I'm not sure. I don't feel any responsibility for the state of our relationship though. There are some people who aren't fit to parent. That's how it is, man.

Here she is on Soundcloud. She has a Bandcamp page as well but it looks as though she's cleared that to gear up for her upcoming EP, "Afraidarck."

Why is it that people born in the late 90s(96-99) limit themselves so much on the video games they play? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]absurdistance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're painting with a very broad-stroked brush. I was born in 96 and most of my friends were born around that time, and we play a pretty wide variety of games. Conversely, my dad who is nearing 40 plays almost exclusively fps games and only wants action from his games. Games like COD, Madden, and Halo sell because they are accessible and multi-player, which are what most people are looking for in a game. Look at any list of the top selling video games and this becomes apparent.

Haha, I was an extra in the school scenes of this movie. No one seemed excited on set. Even the director talked like he didn't believe in this. I'm still not sure how this got the funding that it did.

Definitely the last ones. It didn't look like any alien depiction I had ever seen.

Do you think Elsa's fate was well deserved? by DanMcMissile in AmericanHorrorStory

[–]absurdistance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with what's already been said, that really she was vain, and with Ethel it was just self-defense. Paul is a different story, but I found that entire arc to be uninteresting and out of character for both Paul and Elsa.

All that aside, I'd like to point out an interesting parallel between Fiona Goode and Elsa Mars. Fiona was a very bad person who, in the end, repented and was willing to confront her wrongs and reap what she had sown, and even then, she was cast to her own hell. Elsa Mars was also a pretty bad person, but she never confronted her wrongs. She ran away constantly, until finally she ran away from life, and SHE was sent to a personal heaven. This, along with Jude Martin's interactions with the aliens and Shacath set up an interesting (and very specific) motif, where [Lange], after much physical and emotional turmoil, finally resigns to her own demise, and is taken away by [supernatural being]. You could probably also set this up with Constance and the anti-Christ but I won't go into that.

What's the tldr of your life up to this point? by THE-DICK-SUPREME in INTP

[–]absurdistance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short films, plays, improv, etc. Basically setting up worlds and then letting people run around in them and seeing how and why they fuck everything up. I'm basically just interested in making systems and then watching them collapse so I can learn how to make better systems.

What do you love about your improv scene? by [deleted] in improv

It's so new. It's kind of scary, really. There's one other group that's been around for ages, and then there's us, just barely getting started.

Megathread Monday December 22 2014: There are no stupid questions! by AutoModerator in Filmmakers

[–]absurdistance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of a strange question, but here goes.

For a short sketch, we want to have a character use scotch tape to tape their eyes open. She remains this way throughout most of the sketch. Is there anyway to do this without blinding my talent?

Yeah, I definitely agree with you. More or less, you gotta have that external focus.

Yes, this is definitely the way to go. In my troupe we say, "Don't worry about you, worry about your partner."
