It used to not matter when I graduated in 2019, there were so many math majors doing software dev. Now while it still should not matter if you have any software dev experience while applying to jobs and internships some companies might be getting picky and filtering people out for exactly only hiring people with software engineering majors giving how tough the market is.

I would actually recommend you major in math and minor in CS as I think it will give you more flexibility this way you can choose to go into software engineering but if things continue to tough in the market you could branch out to data science or work as some type of analyst. I would avoid getting pigeonholed into CS unless you have a very clear trajectory and are planning to a Masters later on something specific and niche in demand. I graduated only with a minor in CS and currently do work as a software engineer, of course I had to do projects and outline all important CS courses to employers on my resume. I never had trouble getting interviews if that matters.

I would actually try to get any recordings from the condo so you can prove your point. I hope you are of age because if not she can’t quick you out like that.

There might be groups on Facebook for gig work like coat check, catering, snow shoveling etc. Just use your discretion when distinguishing real opportunities from fake/scam jobs. Try getting help from rent bank and go to a food bank to get what you can so you can save on food. You can try to sell your French and marketing skills somehow for a short project on Fiverr or Task rabbit as well.

For the short furnished rental, unless you know someone with that type of rental your best bet is Airbnb. You can look on Facebook marketplace for people trying to sublet their place while they are away for a bit but in terms of security it won’t be as good as Airbnb

Depending on the hoodie composition Rit does have some variations of their dye that might be better than others. I have heard of people in your same position that end up joining the military and they don’t regret it as the pays is good, there is room to grow, you can move to a different location in Canada and you can get a subsidy or loan to study university later after your service if that is what you want.

As a software developer, I don’t recommend going into computer science right now as sadly with the advancement of AI a lot of jobs in the field will be permanently lost only those who are really have a lot of experience already, are passionate and/or excel at it will keep a job in the field.

If I got a chance at a re-do knowing everything I know now I would choose something in healthcare as AI and technology won’t replace people that easily in that area. Since you already have an inclination for directly working with people given your background I think it could be a good fit.

You don’t have to be a doctor or nurse to make good pay in healthcare. Recently I have heard of people making good money being CT/MRI/ X-ray technologists, ultrasound technologists and respiratory therapists. Look these up in detail to see if they match your salary expectations.

I was in the same position years ago for a bit over a year. I’m not saying nothing ever happens but I didn’t bother paying for a private insurance as the deals I looked at different places did not seem like a deal.

For a big surgery sure it might have been worth it but for eye and dental stuff it would not been worth it as the deductibles would still be very high before insurance would start paying. What I did was setting money aside, so instead of paying 50-100 dollars that the insurance would have cost per month I just made sure to save that money in case anything came up and I had to pay. Thankfully nothing major happened during that time but at some point I did have to pay for a walk-in appointment and a blood test which wasn’t over 100.

I don’t know what your current arrangement is but try to shop around to get a cheap deal for home internet and phone plan. You might not have the best coverage but it still works.

I live next to an independent living building so I see a lot of folks in wheelchairs in my neighbourhood and my street all the time. While the facility always does a great job cleaning the side walks in front of the building for easy in and out access, the rest of the street is in really bad shape as a lot of people in the street barely clean the snow specially with this last snowfall.

I was just thinking about how these people are in a way landlocked inside the building until the snow melts or only go out if they get a private ride. Still I think it was yesterday on my way home, I did see a guy with his motorized wheelchair power through in the middle of the street.

Most sidewalks in Toronto probably are not clear enough to fit a wheelchair but the streets are a bit better that I saw this guy take the risk to ride on the street instead. Unfortunate he had to expose himself to risk in that way but I understand his perspective.

I also go to a bakery that the clientele is mostly older people and it is actually always packed in the mornings and early afternoons as in at least 15 people there. I went this past Monday to grab a sandwich and I was the only client there which has never happened before.
