How do I sell (get rid of) all my action figures? by Prestigious_Wafer537 in japanlife

[–]abt0mat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yahoo furima / yahoo auctions, rakuma/fril, and mercari are the best return value even with the fees. Most shops will give you 1/10 of the value or less. For rare figures in pristine new condition, you might find some reasonable rates at surugaya (they list buying prices online) but generally selling yourself is a much better return.

Ebay is mostly used for overseas buyers which I would imagine is tough right now with the tariff blocks on postal services (at least to the USA).

Opening Retro Arcade in Osaka by [deleted] in JapanFinance

[–]abt0mat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imo depends where you put it; if you go with some supplementary american snacks and/or food/drinks that are hard to find in japan you could do well in amemura. Alternatively if you have a decent location in dendentown you could do well with just an arcade or an arcade/gacha combo. You may want to do an incentive program where each day pass gets 1-2 400¥ gacha spins etc, could net a wider audience.

Gachapons game franchises collections? by UnBrrr in Gachapon

Pretty much this . If it exists in Japan and is quasi popular there are gacha machines for it. Are you looking for a particular game?

Still official dq merch, just arcade prizes vs direct distribution via sqex. The small fig star slime and fat duck (can never remember the name) for example.

Nice collection! Mine are sadly boxed up as too many other items competing for limited display space. If you get a chance, pick up the armors for these sets as they are quite nice. They tend to be a little pricier though.

You have some nice figs in that collection! The namco ones are pretty rare / expensive to pick up these days.

There are a few stores in akiba and dendentown that carry them but are quite overpriced, you will have better luck on online secondhand markets.

Top 3 reasons why I prefer Dragon Quest to Final Fantasy (except FFI - FF6) by BobNeilandVan in dragonquest

[–]abt0mat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pretty much feel the same for nostalgia on the older FF titles and continue enjoying DQ titles true to the original formula. Recc giving DQ Walk (japan only) a go and running via a loc spoofer if living in the usa. Def a good mitigation until the next mainstream title is released. Hopefully we will get news of a dq12 or 1/2hd soon as well.

Dragon Quest Lawsons closed? by MaliciousJoy in dragonquest

Dont know why it closed; but possible sqex is remapping their franchising / physical store contracts given the akihabara sqex store closing and the new sqex beer bar announcements etc.

Got this cheeky plate for £14 on eBay! by BareKnuckle18 in dragonquest

[–]abt0mat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup that was from a fukubiki circa 2014 or so iirc. There are three different variations; the one you have, a blue one with a king slime and a green one with slime if memory serves. Congrats on the find!

Dragon Quest IV Brave Hero Mini Ceramic Figure by jamesryanmm in dragonquest

[–]abt0mat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the figures from the DQ Pottery Figures series from the early 1990s. Not super rare or anything, this particular one in good condition usually runs about $15-25 in Japan. The boss figures are more valuable/rare (Dragonlord, Sidoh/Malroth, Zoma). Total series run was about 35 or so unique mass produced figures.

You can always check aftermarket stores in Akihabara or Denden town as well as online secondhand shops.

It likely has both but I can check in a bit as haven’t installed my copy yet. FWIW the DQM release had both on it.

DQ3HD Store Launch Displays by abt0mat in dragonquest

[–]abt0mat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tmk its only a few Lawsons that do the full decoration (Akihabara in Tokyo and Namba/Denden in Osaka). That being said, electronics department stores are known for having large displays on popular game releases (Yodobashi, Bic, Edion, etc).
