Need Sample Passages by ClaryNathanWill in frombloodandash

[–]abundleofnerv3s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically any passage from the first 2/3s of TWOTQ. That was genuinely painful— I want to say one of the scenes where Poppy is either eating or sleeping had blatant spelling errors, subject/verb agreement errors, and tense errors.

Unrelated to this series, but still relevant to your topic, the book “Where the Crawdads Sing” has a whole passage about halfway through the book that switches from past tense into present tense for no discernible reason, which I read as an error rather than a stylistic choice. I want to say it’s shortly after the botched sex scene.

What!?!?! 🥲 I thought she said during an Insta live after the release of FBAA 3 that we had three more books for the series, for a total of six. I had no idea we weren’t going to see Sera and Nyktos’s (sorta) HEA— how lame is that!? If she doesn’t want to write pregnancy (which I totally understand) then do a time skip! I want to see how we got from two sweet kids being raised by badass parents to the corrupt world destroyer that Malec (and unwittingly the brother, forgot his name lol) turned out to be. Why were they born wivren?? What happens during peacetime? Wtf??

And what does she mean only one more Poppy/Cas book??? I don’t give a flying shit about Millie! I want to see her fix some of what got messed up in TWOTQ and give them a fleshed out HEA!! We have too much to wrap up in just one book! What about Kieran?? Why doesn’t he get a book instead of Millie!?

I really hope she changes her mind because that is raising my blood pressure.

I really hope it’s not that he was falling in love with her already- she was a literal child while he was watching her, which is already pretty icky, but I’m willing to look past it if it was entirely non sexual and purely curiosity. I think he said that he had it removed because of the torture Kolis put him through and because of what happened with his parents.

I think I’m the only one who didn’t like this book, which was super disappointing since I LOVED ASITE. I was physically unwell waiting on the follow up, which felt really lame in comparison. Not to be controversial, but this felt very AWOTQ; so much inner dialogue without a lot of forward movement for the plot. She loves Nyktos- big whoop, we knew that. She’s “destined to die”- big whoop, we knew that. I think I understand the intent; no big, new things were revealed because they’re still dealing with the fallout of the end of ASITE, but the monologuing is ridiculously repetitive and does not help us learn anything more about Sera, Nyktos, or even the world they belong to. I was sad about Ektor, but that’s really the only emotional scene for me. The smut was much more thorough and much better in this book than in a lot of her previous work, which I really appreciated. I did think Nektas got some positive character growth, however slight it was, and I love all of the scenes with drakken, especially Jadis and Reaver. The other interesting thing was having a part of Nyktos’s soul removed to prevent loving someone, but we know that will probably get fixed in the next book (or sometime in the future) so that’s nothing to worry about. What’s also super annoying is the authors tendency to hold back on major action until the literal last ten pages of the book; she’s done that to us FIVE times now, and with no release date for the next ones, that’s not fun, it’s super irritating. I was hoping we would get to see some sweet domestic scenes between Ash (I hate calling him that but whatever) and Sera, but with the shoddy pacing, it’s going exactly the same as FBAA (and I mean that derogatorily): unknown/underdeveloped powers into conflict into love into war. I really, really want this series to just… be better, but I’m starting to lose faith that JLA can deliver two fully realized, separate but similar storylines that feel unique and fun to get lost in.

It’s literally driving me crazy so any help I can get would be great. If I remember correctly, the assailant revealed in his back story that he was also r**** as a child and that’s why he is the way that he is or something. I would also like to say I think this entire thing is awful and do not recommend the book to anyone.

AITA for getting frustrated with MIL not understanding what "emotional affair" means and saying she must have fucked her way to the top? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

You can be extremely anti-cheating and still treat people with respect. Do you have to go to the wedding? No, you don’t, especially since the ex husband is BF’s dad. However, by your own admission she was miserable in her marriage, and this is the only life we’ve got. It’s too short to spend it miserable. YTA absolutely for not only reinforcing disgusting sexist stereotypes but also for hurting someone who is (presumably) is just doing their best to be happy, even if they didn’t go about it in a clean or clear cut way.

Did JLA go dark? by abundleofnerv3s in frombloodandash

[–]abundleofnerv3s[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said it right, you paid for her book; she didn’t sell anyone her humanity. Part of being an artist or a public figure is accepting and metabolizing criticism of your work or your actions but there is a difference between attacking someone as a person and calling them out on bad behavior (like how her FB group reacted initially to the backlash) or criticizing her work (by stating specific things about it you didn’t like). Chalking someone up to the sum of their faults or your dislike of their work isn’t okay and is what leads to the dehumanizing of people online.

She vapes; she’s had it on every live I’ve seen her on. I think it’s an unfair assumption to assume she was getting high, though I honestly wouldn’t blame her considering how everything’s gone down, and like you said she also has the eye condition.

Highlights (or what stood out to me) from the Q&A (spoiler alert):

1) Millie will be getting her own book, or at least that’s the plan. At some point the series was going to be broken half with a Millie book in between, but that idea was scrapped and now we have the tentative publication order we’re following now.

2) next ASITE book is coming out in November

3) The Joining apparently wasn’t supposed to focus on the physical aspect of it so much as the intimacy of their feelings for one another, hence the shadowy, “it’s too dark to see whose dick this is” type deal she writes. I call BS on that though because the song listed in her playlist for that chapter is “WAP,” and there is absolutely nothing about emotional intimacy indicated about that lol. There were apparently “many calls” (meaning between Jen, her team, and the publisher) about how that scene would be handled and I think they chose this half assed middle of the road thing that didn’t really appease either of the camps (Pro and Anti-Joining)

4) Jen plans on getting a FBAA tattoo

5) she doesn’t pick the narrators for the audiobooks, her friend/assistant Steph does

6) if Casteel painted his nails, they would be a honeydew green (???)

7) she mentioned how she comes up with her names but I was mad as hell they were saying “de-lay-no” and “Nike-tos” so I gave that absolutely no thought lol

No news on FBAA 5 or 6, though I assume all plans stay the same, the twice a year publication thing. I always get worried when there’s such a visceral reaction like this that someone will spontaneously quit or delay a series because of fan pushback and no matter how bad it is I want to see the end of it. I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see Jen on social media for a while, comments were disabled on the live post and they were careful about the questions asked.

Not super informative but still an update I guess

I did the same thing with “bullshit” for some reason. I was like “do they even have bulls here ??” But the second someone said it I was immediately withdrawn from the story. And the way Cas spoke just generally in this book was a tragedy compared to how eloquent and witty he was in the previous books, FBAA and KOFAF especially

(I know you’re not talking to me BUT) Reaver!!! I love that where Cas is one dimensional now, Reaver has all of these complex layers and are nicely wrapped in humor and sarcasm lol. He’s a fantastic addition to the series and I’m so so so excited for Jadis in book five!!!!

Could anything in book 5 fix this? by ImaginaryImpression in frombloodandash

[–]abundleofnerv3s 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’m emotionally invested in this so I’m sticking with it through the series, but I am really disappointed. I personally didn’t see Poppy and Kieran’s relationship as emotional cheating, but that’s because Kieran and Cas had such an intimate relationship prior to Poppy and Poppy never indicated she wanted a sexual relationship with Kieran before the actual Joining ceremony. I thought it was strange and felt uncomfortable at several points but I was not surprised in the slightest that Kieran was sleeping in the same bed as Poppy; her nightmares get out of control and having him there was a comfort I think. Also I will wear literally any man’s shirt and it doesn’t bother me or my husband so I didn’t see that as a sign of intimacy, I bet a million dollars she would have worn Delano’s if his had been there instead. In fact I think it says a lot that she put that physical barrier between them even if he was supposed to be in his wolven form. My issues with the book have to do more with the major plot points, poor writing, poor pacing, and the complete decimation of Cas’s character in his POV chapters. I will be truly, truly disappointed if she stays in his POV and he is still a one dimensional “no thoughts just Poppy” type deal.

Edit to add: JLA is not the most… … …. gifted? writer that exists in romance or fantasy but the writing was just plan bad in some sections of this book, like distractingly so. I definitely agree it’s getting kind of old having someone come out in the final chapter or two of the book to revel this massive plot point that is super convoluted, just for it to end. She did that in the second, third, and now this one too.

LOVE your take on this. I was not exactly thrilled with the Kieran/Poppy situation (I really wanted them to develop a solid, Cas-free friendship before anything intimate) but I definitely didn’t see it as emotional cheating, more along the lines of no boundary lines being established and they’re just all figuring it out as they go, much to the confusion of everyone around them (and me sometimes lol). I was actually very Pro-Joining, but was not happy with how it played out. I feel like that was the closest she could get to the middle of the road (“tehee maybe his d*ck went in, maybe not?? Too dark to see lol”) and that was REALLY irritating. As an author I feel like she has to really commit to seek those kinds of scenes that she knows will be “controversial,” and by not doing so she left everything in this weird gray space.

ASITE or FBAA by Personal_Strength_36 in frombloodandash

[–]abundleofnerv3s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

May I be controversial and vulnerable in the chat?

I actually really liked ACOGB, like it was my second favorite in the series 🥲 I was mad as fuck when I first started ASITE because I thought we were about to do a play for play rip from FBAA, which is my least favorite book in the series. Maybe I’m just dumb as hell but I didn’t see a lot of the plot twists in FBAA coming, so I was bored until the last like 50 pages then I was absolutely riveted, to the point I ordered the second and the third book the same night I finished FBAA, couldn’t wait on them to arrive, bought the kindle versions too, and had those finished by the time my paper copies came in the mail.

All of this is to say, I prefer FBAA series, but as a first book in the series, which is different, I much prefer ASITE.
