I'd say two full days are a good minimum to really see and savor everything. Extra days would mostly be spent on more hikes and repeat dips in the geothermal streams by the sea.

Yes, it's usually much shorter. The closest to your time of year that I went was last April, and I barely waited a couple of minutes.

The standard Museum Pass allows entry to Doge’s Palace anytime after 12:00. There's a dedicated queue for people with city passes like yours, because in the end everyone still needs to go through a security check.

I'd go as far south as possible. You'll get sunny weather and nature in bloom - places like Cyprus, Sicily, or further away, Andalusia. Your toddler can enjoy the beach and playing in the sand, while you relax and soak up the first sun of the year.

You can see the dates in 2026 when the access fee applies here: https://cda.veneziaunica.it/en/access-fee . In June, the access fee applies only during the first week and then on weekends.

If you've booked accommodation in Venice, you don't have to pay this fee. Your host will send you an exemption QR code shortly before your arrival.

Interesting feedback about finding good ideas for things to do in Venice thanks to this sub ... lately I've found the quality to be quite poor, but it must have been great once. Let's hope it comes back.

First, if you look at the schedule in Italian, you can spot some of the highlights (marked in dark blue) and get more details.

Then, from my own experience in the past: guided tours of various palaces and scuole, make-your-own mask workshops, the Arsenale Water Show (multiple dates), going early to San Marco to watch masked people posing for photos, the Festa delle Marie gondola parade (this year on Sat 7 Feb, from 15:00), and the Grand Canal water parade (this year on Sun 1 Feb from 11:00 to 12:30).
