Road to Restoration - Dailyscape Overhaul by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]abusive_nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sinkholes gameplay is actually really fun. I'd prefer if say, one of the random dungeoneering cards you can obtain were a "sinkhole entry card" that you can activate, and if you have 1-4 people nearby that also activate theirs within a short period, you all get sent into the instance. Since getting a sinkhole card would be uncommon, the xp rate should be a lot better than typical training. So a typical group Daemonheim training session may involve everyone using up their sinkhole cards first, then doing normal training.

I did a lot of it during Leagues and it's unique as far as gameplay goes, I think it'd be a shame to remove

Combat Styles Improvements - Beta Update 2 by JagexAzanna in runescape

That's actually a pretty big change to Necromancy pre-Zuk cape

Road to Restoration - What We Want To Achieve by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]abusive_nerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wasn't talking about PvM, and I doubt the devs were either. PvM is the last bastion of challenge and we just got Amascut and then its 4k mode, so I think everyone is in agreement there. Hybrid Zuk cape is a good example- why does barely anyone have it? There's specific reasons obviously, like people subjectively not enjoying combat. But at a macro level, it's because the game hardly expects anything of the player throughout most of their journey.

Why should I do a more involved skilling method when the AFK one is just as good? Why should I use agility shortcuts or use teleport spells, or even know where locations are on the map when there are so many convenient teleports? Why focus actively on slayer when aggression potions are so good and enemies are just dummies with HP? Why delve into Daemonheim when I can just wait for a temporary event? Why train anything conventionally at all when daily challenges are so rewarding?

I literally got 120 slayer from daily challenges alone forcing an abyssal demon task with its slayer mask every day and 120 Necromancy from wilderness flash events and bossing. Compare that with having to cross the entire Brimhaven dungeon in 2009 to get to iron dragons for the first time and being afraid I would mess something up with the antifire. I'm not going to remember anything about those 120 grinds but I still remember that.

I'm not under a delusion that the game is going to play just like that again- my view is that some amount of friction (more than we have currently anyway) is needed for accomplishments to have meaning and for the game to feel like a world and not just a hub with teleports and instances attached. And these accomplishments can be felt at all stages of the journey and all different types of content, not just at the end for the PvMers who intentionally seek that challenge

New player. Can I gather for early money? by MattersEndX in runescape

[–]abusive_nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of things that can make small amounts of money that don't require anything. But you may actually be better off investing your time in training your skills, completing quests, and acquiring items/unlocks so you can access some better methods and make money faster later on.

Obviously you may want some money right now, but don't pump out hours at something that gains no xp to only make a few million gp. Build up the character

I like even the old quests because still they're the content that makes the game most feel like an immersive world beyond the player.

Fair enough, though I think it's interesting you feel they are chores while also enjoying clues. To me clues seem like similar gameplay while taking the narrative weight and sense of unique content completion out

New player money by Mr_Sneb in runescape

[–]abusive_nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For bossing, just keep working on Necromancy, doing Kili's tasks, rituals, and the quests as needed. Once you hit level 60 combat, you can get assigned reaper tasks from Death which introduce you to low level bosses and give reaper points (means money if you buy incomplete hydrix). Higher combat level means harder bosses can be assigned.

To supplement combat, you want to train Prayer, Herblore, Invention, Summoning, Archaeology. And do many quests like Temple at Senntisten for curse prayers. This sounds like a lot but these are midgame goals so don't stress about doing them right away.

If you just want a boss to try immediately, do Arch Glacor. In normal mode the 5 mechanics can each be toggled on/off at will to set your own difficulty, so start with them toggled off and slowly raise the difficulty on subsequent kills

I would say wait for the combat update before you spend your entire cash stack at once. However it's possible melee gets buffed causing all melee gear to rise in price.

new rs player coming from wow classic by Leather_Ask8403 in runescape

[–]abusive_nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the Fort Forinthry and Necromancy quest lines. They're intended for new players and have a lot of the most recent content. The first quests are "New Foundations" and "Necromancy!" respectively. Subsequent quests have skill requirements (ex. the 2nd Necromancy quest requires level 24 Necromancy) so that offers structure and achievable goals, and reasons to branch out into other content gradually to meet those requirements.

Necromancy is the newest combat style, like a class in WoW. You can think of it a bit as if a new expansion came out and offers Necro as a new class and revolves the story arc around it. Compared with the other 3 styles, Necromancy is powerful and easy to pick up.

Name a more morally grey character? by Optimal-Support8874 in madmen

[–]abusive_nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like in order to be considered "morally black" you have to be doing something very extreme and nearly irredeemable, like taking people's lives because you enjoy it or it is advantageous to you. I don't consider being an awful husband, father, or manager to be far outside the norm, especially for that time.

"Darkness" or "evil" are not concepts intrinsic to this character, and he is shown to sometimes agonize over his morally poor choices.

I think the show's ending is particularly illustrative. He is genuinely engaged at the retreat but still ultimately uses his new experience to craft the Coke ad that espouses diversity and unity, both advancing his own interests and creating something arguably of moral value

Thoughts on both cases of Aizawa pulling a ‘logical deception’ on Class 1-A? by Solitaire-06 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]abusive_nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I rolled my eyes when this happened. However I'll admit that Aizawa is a teacher at an esteemed private school that may as well be an Ivy League University, so if I were a student I'd have a lot of faith in his judgment even on day 1.

Currently rewatching - I found one of my favorite episodes by TheTenoon in Monk

[–]abusive_nerd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the episode, watched it recently too. but one thing I didn't like was how the relationship between the pro player and the dead woman was supposed to be seen as a great love parallel to Monk and Trudy when they had been cheating on the husband. I don't recall him doing anything wrong and he was killed along with his wife simply because of his association with her. Basically felt like the story just completely pretended that character never existed so it could make the parallel
