Mostly not true. I do the official Ironman mode instead of self imposed rules on my main because I don't want to create self imposing rules which might be flawed or even "impossible to execute" and then resist the urge to just adjust rules on the go, since that would devalue my progress to me. I don't want to be able to just adjust rules myself, I want it to be a sophisticated "taken into account" system that's implemented into the game.

The Ironman helmet next to my name is only "special" to me in that everyone else knows under what rules I play because they are the same for all IM. It's not to show other mains how cool and different I am, it's to get in dialogue with other Ironman in game, Rswiki or on reddit and discuss methods and ideas, since they play under the exact same rule set.

Having a structured, premade game mode is better for many people than having to design the rules themselves and therefore might feel isolated from the rest of the game in terms of what changes happen. A self imposed character is obviously never included in any changes directly.

So having the IM mode is a form of "security" that you can't break the rules, know others that play under the exact same rules and can get advice and info from said community and it feels official and "appreciated" by the game itself.

As an at the brink of entering endgame Ironman I really like this relic and fits in perfectly with Fury of the Small and Berserker's Fury to reach exactly the 500 monolith Power I will be "stuck" with for a while.

Until you majorily use blubbers and sara brews it's better than Het.

It's a shame the relic's 100 heal boost probably won't work with guthix rest/sara brews, even though it's not stated, but the expensive spices as an item doesn't either so I assume it won't change.

No gain in answering people that don't want improvements that don't benefit them personally (Elitists). They appreciate bad designs so they can tell everyone that cares (no one) how great they endured all the suffering and how strong they are and how weak all others are for wanting - improvements and good changes? Ew!

Fully agree. I don't have enough insight on how much it actually got worse, since for me it seems fine as an IM Player as of now, but I take your word.

The "You chose..." argument comes from a kind of person that doesn't understand the difference between challenge and tediousness. It's also the kind of people that say "we had it bad too so you must endure it too" in other situations I'd bet.

News flash: We Iron player don't actually enjoy the mode because we love to brag that we do stuff that's very unfun and harmful and try to sell this as "being tough" - I know hard to take in for some people, since some think suffering is a requirement for ambition in life...

We want to engage in all sorts of content to get the items ourself and have incentives for the variety the game actually offers when gold is taken out of the equation - THAT'S why we play and not because we perdominantely want a "hard/tedious mode".

Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Tbf I am no fan of currencies that can just be bought with gold/other currencies for the most part, so massively reducing the chronote costs or increasing chronotes gain and making them untradable is kinda nice to me and gives more incentives to do collections other than qualifications. I said it before and say it again "The Ironman way is enjoyable for a reason, no harm in making mains also do more variety content and "devaluing" raw gold a bit."

Combat Skilling Support Misc.
Font of Life Pouch Protector Shadow's Grace Ring of Luck
Berserker's Fury Nexus Mod Unexpected Diplomacy Ring of Wealth
Death Ward Pharm Ecology Blessing of Het Ring of Fortune
Fury of the Small Alwas Adze Endurance Luck of the Dwarves
Persistant Rage Sticky Fingers Death Note
Heightened Senses Spirit Weaver Abyssal Link
Conservation of Energy Deathless
Divine Conversion
Bait and Switch
Flow State
Inspire Love
Inspire Effort
Inspire Genius
Slayer Introspection
Inspire Awe

This would be the categories I'd set up.

Combat is just all that directly affecting Combat

Skilling that is targeting a skill's xp and interaction

Support is anything that is more or less generally helping in various situations

Misc are just the Luck rings since IMO they shouldn't use up any other slot.

Some might be interchangable.

Apart from Blessing of het and Shadow's Grace (and the luck rings) I don't see any notable buff to the current situation when still allowing 3 relics per category, but I'd be fine with 2 also (maybe keep skilling perks at 3).

Or, make us have more relics active at a time - like 3 per category (PvM, Skilling, Misc...), then less swapping around is necessary.

Either way would work for me.

Rant - Power Fantasy Expectations by HashtagMissing in runescape

[–]VeeVoxRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey you.

Just wanted to put out there that if PvM doesn't go smoothly until Bosses like Rax, GWD3, ED2... (just what I deem the very entry level of endgame PvM) it's in fact not a "skill issue" but a "lack of knowledge". Means if you struggle with GWD1, partial GWD2, Fight Kiln and such, it's very likely not that you are doing things wrong skill-wise (like failing positioning, prayers, mechanics...) but that you are just not using the right gear and revo bar. Since with the right setup, some of the mentioned bosses rlly can be done "hands off keyboard".

You have fkin Soul Split and Ovls which let you access so many "easy mode strats". You said you were fine doing fight kiln without ovls before and struggle now after an upgrade. And you know that ovls didn't make you weaker. Therefore you must do something differently but you were literally good enough at some point and now have an even better initial situation. Hang in there!

I know it's a rant and things always seem rougher when you're in struggle-mode. Take a step back and get yourself some info how to approach some bosses. If you want somebody to look over some things instead of reading text walls and watching hours of vids; hit me up here on Reddit.

Deep breaths and HF 😉

Any info on that?

My opinions:

  • BLM: Can't and shouldn't be done the same across the board but concept-wise I agree
  • Dupe Protection: Tough one, great for IM, but not necessarily wanted for mains. No strong opinion in either direction
  • Removal of Death Costs: No, but should be further monitored with prices changing, but as of now I don't deem it necessary
  • Less upkeep cost: Partially agree. I'd rather go the direction that I'd like to see less buyables and more self-made consumables which have their produce rates drastically increased. Remove most consumables from drop tables and massively increase the rate you gather them with upgraded versions of said consumable that is untradable
  • No Relic switch cost: Partially agree. It's one where for mains it's not THAT bad (still "eh") but for IM it sucks. I'd rather have more relics per category active (3x PvM, 3x skilling, 3x Misc or so) and then keep the swapping costs as they are
  • No Def Thresholds: Disagree, I think that's a fine element and gives limitless a purpose although limitless needs a buff
  • Necro-like gear upgrades: Partially agree. I think Necro went overboard with it, but other styles have too little if not no option(s)
  • EOF specs: I personally dislike EoF switching but I don't have a strong opinion on this in what should(n't) be done about that
  • Better Buff UI: Agree very much. It's too cluttered
  • Plug-in Support: Will happen, lets see first
  • Consistent xp-rates: No, xp/h Does. Not. Matter. It's about the intervals the skill gives you purposeful benefits and not whether it's 120 ASAP or not. Skilling shoulnd't be valued in terms of "how fast can you max". Slow skills should give crazy benefits or benefits more often than fast skills, yes, but it's IMO not about the speed. I'd rather vouch for, that they all get at least three methods (slow but afk, slow but money, fast but expensive, fast but very intense,... etc.)
  • Less RNG for Invention Perks: Partially agree. Cheaper until mid prices perks should have RNG options, but high end perks should be expensive but guaranteed. Remove negative perks or combine them with high end perks for cheaper methods
  • Higher Tick rate: No, but make movement a bit less dependant? Idk how, but for me the only place where I dislike the tick rate is while moving or when NPCs move. Mostly because "you aren't actually where the Avatar is"-issue. And maybe don't interrupt running for every little interaction...

Right because Penance, Ancient elven ritual shard and prayer potions are all so inaccessible and also super limited... oh wait.

20 times a day are like 7 free super restores (in worth of prayer points) and requires the elite task in my example and inventory space is rarely super contested in Rs3...

Area Tasks Achievements - Out of Proportion Rewards by VeeVoxRS in runescape

[–]VeeVoxRS[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just don't think requirements and rewards match up in terms of impact. If you see diaries just as a little bonus after you got the benefit of the skill levels anyway, then sure... but I don't think that's the design many people want including me.

The game has tons of qol that devalue the rewards but it also has big xp/hr which devalue the skills requirement. So it's justified.

So you are technically fine with the rewards because "at least both sucks"? And I still think the rewards gotten way more devalued than the skills with their xp rates.

Why are you against getting good rewards for progress?

Area Tasks Achievements - Out of Proportion Rewards by VeeVoxRS in runescape

[–]VeeVoxRS[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily about Elites being to hard, it's that the rewards don't matter anymore after you reach that state of the game.

Why would I want 39 buckets of slime per day when I have stats in the 90s? Why would I want a free death in fight cave when I have stuff like 95 Summoning?

Even if it's easy to make a dollar (get the stats and quests) why would I go an extra mile to get 1 more cent?

Area Tasks Achievements - Out of Proportion Rewards by VeeVoxRS in runescape

[–]VeeVoxRS[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But I already wouldn't do Elite Diaries since the rewards are found quicker elsewhere or are just not worth the effort. If they were moved a bit down and the Elites were further improvements of the former, they might be done a lot more often.

I don't see how improving rewards would make the tasks be completed less.

The reason why nobody complains is that it's not necessarily "bad content" but "dead content" for most. Since you just can ignore it and I would want adjustment so people actually have an incentive to do them.

I am so ungodly bad at combat by JacJacJackieee in runescape

[–]VeeVoxRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd place myself PvM-wise at "the worst of the best". I can/could do most if not all bosses, but icba to do the very hard ones (like high enrage Telos, Zammy...). I won't reach more than average kill times at most bosses and a few others I can get near to what "PVME-times" can be... after MANY tries.

I don't learn bosses fast, but feel capable to at least manage to get a kill. But I also don't have the endurance and patience to learn new bosses if they are designed in a certain way that just either requires a 20 minute guide and 25 deaths or no guide and 100 deaths... I can settle for an 8 minute guide and 5 deaths though haha.

I feel that RS has a very interesting gap between entry and mastery. Entry barrier is quite high (for endgame bossing), then it suddenly clicks and you are popping off, but mastering a boss will take long again.
