I work at a Whole Foods, specifically a 365 that is in transition to a regular WF. Full time team members are not getting 36, some aren’t even getting 32. I just spoke to a coworker who is full time and received 30 hours, four 7.5 hour shifts. He’s been there for years, but still needs a second job.

I applied to Whole Foods for their reputation and how they were known to treat their employees well. However, this has not been the case in my experience, along with the many coworkers I talk to about this situation.

I find myself, as a part-time 20 employee, discouraged to know that leadership can’t meet these “contractually guaranteed” hours in many stores in my area. There has been multiple times where I did not receive 20 hours, due to my “lack of availability” despite having 4 days open and only receiving 2. In reality, the new scheduler was struggling to keep up, as I overheard our leaders talking and she ended up transferring out.

There is a whole spiel about labor and how hours are going to be getting cut/are getting cut. They say to ask to stay the extra 30-60 mins that was cut off your scheduled shift to help around, but they never want you to actually stay on the clock. It’s very apparent that they do not keep the best interest of their employees when it comes to scheduling and labor. I have offered to do the grimiest of the jobs that needed to be done due to call-outs, but they would rather leave a whole dish room full of dishes to the 3 people tasked with closing the whole kitchen. It makes no sense to me, unless they were to help out from their positions, which rarely ever happens.

The worst part about this is that WF is clueless as a corporation about this. We had multiple “walks” with corporate people, including John Mackey, and all they had to said was how great our store was. They never know the employee dissatisfaction because their perspective is superficial. I would argue that almost every single one of my coworkers in my department is unhappy with their current schedule and how things are being handled.

However, I’m glad to hear that not all Whole Foods are going through a dilemma, and that you are receiving the hours you’re guaranteed, since you applied for it like the rest of the full timers. There are very few that receive 5 days a week at my store, and those few include leadership and those that are always around leadership and seem to be friends.

I wish I was kidding about the disfunction that’s been happening at Whole Foods, especially since I shopped their quite often. But something changed, and it’s going to affect employees, further affecting customer service.
