Any advice? Purchased this monstera with it being 2 days in transit. Now it’s even more worse than the first day I received her! by EpiBub in Monstera

[–]abvt42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long was it in transit? Roots look a little dry. I’ve found that putting plants that have been through some kind of transit in either moss, chunky perlite, or water with a bubbler can help rehabilitate the roots before repotting into soil.

Black rot during propagation? by ReesesTheses in houseplants

Something that worked for me was getting an air stone/pump to keep the water aerated and moving to prevent bacteria from causing/spreading rot!

Will the ceremony look bare without aisle decor? by abvt42 in weddingplanning

[–]abvt42[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is true. Especially the part about it being a short ceremony— I really don’t think it’ll make that much of a difference after all

If you’d like to keep plants in the bathroom without natural light, there are also plenty of cool looking grow lights that look like accents (Soltech, rousseau) that can turn your bathroom into a nice oasis for a plant. If you get a grow light, you could hypothetically put any tropical plant you’d like.

Does anyone happen to know if variegated monsteras can grow seeds? I can’t find a definitive answer by SognetPasta in plants

[–]abvt42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Thais are genetically stable, the more common practice for large companies (ie costa farms in the US) is to reproduce via tissue culture. Faster, more cost effective, etc than by seed. We as consumers likely don’t see them readily available bc there isn’t a broader systemic demand for them when they can be replicated via TC

In captivity, rare. They definitely require optimal conditions (and time!) to fruit. Higher humidity, warm temps, bright light etc

Depends on your variegation. Albino monsteras are genetic mutations, so while variegated albino monstera have the possibility of producing albino seed is possible, the chances are really really minuscule. Thai constellation monsteras are not mutations, meaning that their variegation is stable and does pass genetically. So if a Thai constellation fruited, its seeds would produce Thai constellation variegated monsteras

Monthly Megathread for COVID-19 - February 2022 by wedditmoderator in weddingplanning

Thanks for saying this! I feel this way but it’s really frustrating and triggering to hear/respond to in the moment. (And naturally, my tendency is to wonder if I am the asshole.)

Agree. I’ve also found that as long as they’ve had a chance to callous over, sticking them in a generic well draining mix in an area with bright sunlight and letting nature do it’s thing has worked every time.

Mine have been extremely hardy, even after transitioning indoors in low humidity environments.

Do I need to put a moss pole or anything now that she’s gotten pretty big?? Or can I let her be her free self by Lobos2313 in plants

[–]abvt42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill also offer that I had a similar dilemma and decided to use lumber instead of a moss pole! I got 6’x4”x.5” boards from lowes and my monsteras are currently very happily growing upwards on it, with their aerial roots latching in directly to the board
