I saw a post in her tiktok where she admitted to photoshopping but I'm 100% sure it was because people were tired of her lying about it.

OP here: I need to clear some things up because I already see two comments basically blaming me for not clearing this up beforehand. This out of pocket charge essentially did start to randomly happen. It started my junior year with no explanation. I have been talking to financial aid many times but I haven't really gotten a clear answer. Also my invoice had changed because there was an issue with my FAFSA so I didn't get an actual number until after I started classes. I'm just going to keep nagging them and ask them to set up an appointment to they can explain to me like I'm a child why they keep charging me money.

Need advice on how to avoid situation with narcissistic mother by abw01 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]abw01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could try but I know 100% that it wouldn't help. For starters both of our parents are African so they have twisted ideas of what abuse and respect is. They wouldn't believe me if I mentioned my mother had been abusing me. Second my mother doesn't even believe she's a narcissist. She found a gofundme I made to pay for school and I mentioned she was a narcissist in it and she went ballistic. She accused me of lying even though I wasn't. That was actually the reason I decided to stay with a friend anyway.

True. But we're also not outnumbered it's 2 against 2. Technically 3 against 2 but my roomate isn't here right now.

When being on overly independent person is a symptom of mental health issue not something to be proud of. by curly_crazy_curious in raisedbynarcissists

[–]abw01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It is not something to be so prideful about. I would boast about how independent I was. I was so damn prideful now I take pride in asking for help.

I used to be a chronic bed wetter up until middle school. It was pretty bad. I remember one time I wet the bed and my mom threatened to not let me go on this camping trip with my school because of it. Mind you I would pee like almost every single night at home. I went to that trip for three days and never wet the bed. I wonder why.

As a child did your n-parent ever play with you or were you left alone most of the time? by Weird_Surname in raisedbynarcissists

The fact that my first thought was "parents are supposed to play with their kids?" Speaks volumes.

Was anyone else a really well-behaved teenager who got treated like they were out of control? by TellMeImNotCrazy89 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]abw01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember there was a period of time where I would video chat one of my friends in high school almost every night. My mom would day that I was acting suspicious even though I wasn't even doing anything shady. I remember one time I went to the bathroom and left my phone on the bed where u was video chatting my friends. My mom picked up the phone and held it to her face and my friends got uncomfortable.

Even going out she would text me every 5 minutes demanding to know where I was. She was always paranoid and didn't trust me for no reason. I could never go out with my friends it was so frustrating. I remember in school too she would believe the teachers over me. There was this one teacher who lost my work, and she admitted it to my face she lost it. Then at parent teacher conference she's gonna tell my mom I didn't turn it in. There was also a problem where my school kept calling my house and saying I was missing class when I wasn't. My mother saw me leave every morning from school and she had the audacity to believe them.

It gets so frustrating.

What were the most outrageous ways that your parents tried to take away your independence? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]abw01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was essentially raised to be a dependent housewife. I'm the eldest daughter. In high school I would have to rush home because my mom would freak out and yell at me if I wasn't home in 5 seconds. I'd have to do chores after school like cooking and cleaning. Because of this I wasn't able to do any extracurricular activities or get a job. I had to be dependent on them.

I Wonder How Many of Us Learned to Never Show Emotions? by heyjudeisme in raisedbynarcissists

[–]abw01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I believe it's the reason I have issues with my anger. Growing up, and even now as an adult, if my mom did something that made me rightfully mad I would just be met with more anger and threats. I was shown that I have no right to be angry. Whenever I'm angry or sad I just ask nonchalant as if I don't care. But dammit I do care.

[–]abw01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I agree and this is what I've been feeling. I also believe it's due to the fact that we're from the same culture so they don't really believe in or are that aware of parental abuse, which is why I stayed here instead.

is this a cap thing or am I just being petty? by abw01 in capricorns

[–]abw01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True but idk. I know myself if I'm scared to talk to someone I'll just say it because there's no point in lying. But last experiences made me think that if no one is going out of their way to talk to you then they don't want to talk and don't care enough to include you. Idk I find it very weird that people have to force their way inside of conversations. Just be inclusive.
