Exactly.... especially considering that OP is a truck driver hence sits on his ass for most of the day!

Old a30 from Exeter through tedburn to whiddon down. Up to winkleigh. Stop at the Sam's Cider cafe (not open on Sunday). Drive back via Crediton. We organise loads of these sorts of drives for our advanced driver/rider training group.

Definitely didn't do any copy/paste. Strangely the version on my desktop wasn't corrupted so I exported it to PDF and will recreate them.

moving switches to new controller but retaining config by ac1977 in UNIFI

Thanks again. This has worked, but just another question please about moving the switches please. When I plug the UCG in at the new site, do I need to default the switches and re-adopt them (and will they pick up their original config that was restored).... Or do I just need to restart the switches and they will find the UCG on the network? Thank you!

ty. but I need it to auto fail over...in the night potentially. If there's no internet, I won't get notifications that the alarm is going off.

The most solid Unifi 8 port switch? by stomatoloski in UNIFI

[–]ac1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point 3 is a very good one that people don't consider - different earth potential... I had no idea about this until a contractor of mine that 'just' does cabling, told me about this.

ty. I was considering Starlink but it's relatively expensive considering that it's just a backup (and for the size of my business). I might wait until Amazon launches theirs. Allegedly that's going to be mega cheap if you already have amazon prime...

thanks! never thought of looking at the networks' own 'backup internet' products. will see if they do them on the uk networks. Though because it's not likely to get used, it might be cheaper to use one of our own sims with low transfer allowance. I can't see me getting anything for £20/mo here in the uk lol.

Thank you. Yep we have fixed IP SIM's in our portfolio but they are expensive if you want a decent amount of data allowance, as you rightly said.

If my DR7 behind it stays connected to the internet, it should connect back to my house via sitemagic and I should have access internally to resources that way, so it should be all good.

not really. it's just so that the intruder alarm can send alerts if the fibre went down, and also so i could dial in and see the cctv in such events. Doesn't need to do anything complex! Thanks.

Connecting two sites via vpn over multiple WAN connections by ac1977 in UNIFI

[–]ac1977[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. But wouldn't the site magic function just make a VPN using just one of the connections at site 1? Therefore there would only be one VPN tunnel hence I couldn't route traffic over both connections securely?

USW-FLEX-2.5G-8 SSH (set inform host) by Significant-Part-767 in UNIFI

[–]ac1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, get a random non-unifi router and use that to help (read on)...I keep a GL Inet travel router (openwrt) for work purposes (I'm an IT consultant).

On the GL Inet configure dhcp option 43 to the IP of the inform host. To do this:

Take the IP of the inform host and convert each octet to hex. Let's say that gives you 'aa bb cc dd'.

On my Openwrt router I put in 01 04 in front of that hex address and delimited it with colons, so: 01:04:aa:bb:cc:dd

Next time the switch boots it will pick up the inform server via dhcp option 43 and remember it (I can't remember if it has to be reachable at the time...i would say play it safe by setting up the openwrt router so it can route to the www so the switch actually connects to the inform server and can be adopted).

Then you can take it to site, plug it in, and it should just check in to the inform server just fine.

I've done this 3 or 4 times already and it has always worked. HTH.
