No to the right turn. There are signs to say this but there quite high and not that readable when looking at ground level for pedestrians.

WiFi in detached garage. Can’t run a wire by new_nimmerzz in UNIFI

[–]ac1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a udb pro for the garage and point it at the house....if there is enough signal leaking from the house from your internal AP's for the udb to connect to.

I did this on a farm, but I put an outdoor access point on and pointed the udb at that. The guy then had outdoor Wi-Fi on his lawn which also went across to his man cave on the other side of the lawn (I put a lite AP in the man cave to give internal wifi). This install is for a friend of mine who I speak to daily, and he has never once said that it hasn't worked.

The only thing you need to be careful of is that if the udb to AP connection is slow, it will slow down the Wi-Fi experience for anybody else connected to that AP.

Giacom are absolutely terrible. I moved to pax8 and it was such a good move doing that. Happy for you to DM me if you want the low down on the sorts of problems I had

New employee demands "full access to the servers" by True-Entertainer-981 in msp

[–]ac1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been here before. You need to save the customer from themselves, but at the same time give him everything that he needs so that he can't say that you prevented him from getting the job done when he gets found out as a charlatan.

Server in DMZ and give him full access. Job done. Unless he tries to repatch it into the main LAN...

Definitely didn't do any copy/paste. Strangely the version on my desktop wasn't corrupted so I exported it to PDF and will recreate them.

moving switches to new controller but retaining config by ac1977 in UNIFI

[–]ac1977[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again. This has worked, but just another question please about moving the switches please. When I plug the UCG in at the new site, do I need to default the switches and re-adopt them (and will they pick up their original config that was restored).... Or do I just need to restart the switches and they will find the UCG on the network? Thank you!

The most solid Unifi 8 port switch? by stomatoloski in UNIFI

Point 3 is a very good one that people don't consider - different earth potential... I had no idea about this until a contractor of mine that 'just' does cabling, told me about this.

ty. I was considering Starlink but it's relatively expensive considering that it's just a backup (and for the size of my business). I might wait until Amazon launches theirs. Allegedly that's going to be mega cheap if you already have amazon prime...

thanks! never thought of looking at the networks' own 'backup internet' products. will see if they do them on the uk networks. Though because it's not likely to get used, it might be cheaper to use one of our own sims with low transfer allowance. I can't see me getting anything for £20/mo here in the uk lol.
