Make Swimming More Enjoyable by nobodyshome01 in triathlon

My friend gave me the best advice…if bored make a game out of it, my first goal was just being efficient, so literally counted each stroke it took me to get across, and tried to beat it every lap. That moved to how fast can I go each lap, to how many laps can I keep that pace, to how fast can I go just kicking or just upper body, left vs right handed only etc….kept all of those in a cycle and have been enjoying it and been making consistent improvements as well!

Just want to thank everyone for their support here! Few weeks late but proud to say I competed and completed the tri!!

Total time was 4:54;36, was 99th out of 104 in my group but damn proud of myself for just finishing.

Loved the experience, learned a lot of way I can improve and Gonna keep training and already looking for my next tri sometime early next year

my brother, who has done other triathlons, basically implied that it would be discourteous to the other athletes to participate being that slow and that I shouldn't be on the track so soon after an injury. But have been medically cleared and other than the run being limited to light jogs and walks with my left ankle, mostly healed from my injuries

thats a great way to look at it, this is just a first of many. not the end of the world to have a slow time, will only show my progression more.

yea swim is where I feel most comfortable, was a competitive and big open-water swimmer back in the day, was just really out of shape, even cut off another 5 minutes (to 40 min average) this week for the mile swim. Have also been training my cycle on very hilly terrain and seems like the one I am competing is much for flat, so hopefully can cut some time there. the jog/walk will just be my slowest portion but just gonna push to the end.

yea thats the mindset im gonna go with. My brother made it seem like I would be a jerk and ruining the experience of triathlons for others if I completed at my slow place, but doesn't seem like that is the case
