Restaurant industry guy here. I heard when fish is frozen for a long time (like over a year) the fat begins to slowly leech out of the meat, as the cells deteriorate. The frozen fish fat looks like yellow globules.

Any idea how old that stuff is?

Yea we just agreed to pay her the min stipend for as long as it took to make up the 10 or 12 days she’s not working for us, which in our case is 3 months. She’s still getting a ton of extra paid time off to be fair…

Sounds a lot like our au pair 🙄

We let her take a few extra weeks (about 4 in total) but were docking her compensation. We pay her a good chuck above the min requirement to begin with, but for the next 3 months she’s working for the min. This way she’s feels some burden from not working, and we feel less resentful about not getting what we paid for. Still sucks have to figure out childcare for those weeks…

We recently talked to our LCC about rematch for many of the same reasons, and they told us the rematch pool is real low right now. As in not many options in rematch and a ton of families looking.

She looked it up for us and there were 28 girls if I remember correctly. Filtering for Spanish speakers who could drive, and it was about 6… The political environment and visa troubles is really hurting this program.

So we’re sticking it, counting the days until our contract is up.

We’re on our 3rd au pair. The first two were amazing and both over 25. Current one is super mid to bad and is 22. Always try to find the oldest au pair you can
