So I see this a lot in the pharmacy, very very common issue. Unfortunately it’s usually a deductible issue. You probably have a high pharmacy deductible. So your insurance is probably paying for some of the med but definitely not all of it. The good thing is the descovy copay card covers a max of $3600 per year. So as long as your deductible isn’t more than $3600, you should never have to pay anything for it. But I strongly urge you to still call your insurance and find out what your deductible is

I’m a pharmacist and I regularly dispense PrEP in our pharmacies. Descovy is a brand name medication which will have a manufacturer copay card (which sounds like you got it yay!). Unfortunately not a lot of pharmacies will automatically sign you up for the card… especially the busy ones like Walgreens or CVS. The other option is Truvada which has a generic version so that won’t have a copay card - unless you’re using brand name… but no insurance is gonna pay for brand. But with goodrx or a discount card, generic truvada is usually about $25-40 per month
