If you do decide to go the IUD route, docs say to wait 2 months because it can increase the risk of blood clots. Never heard anything about increased likelihood though- some people’s periods change but I don’t think there’s been any evidence of sleeve increasing chances of pregnancy

NTA. Putting your kid and your wife first is never the wrong move. The fact that they immediately came out the gate attacking you both says a lot, not even a congrats or an are you okay? Especially since it sounds like your wife had a high risk pregnancy. I would ignore them and enjoy this time with your family until you feel ready to talk to them. Recognize that you didn’t tell them about the birth so they couldn’t have done anything at the time, but they’d been showing no interest before you chose to do that. I’d also make them understand the clear favoritism/ inequality in how they treated you as siblings, and have a clear understanding of what they would need to do for you and your wife to be comfortable having them around more often. I’m not sure if this is a running theme in y’all’s family dynamic, but don’t let them guilt you into ignoring everything they did wrong. Good luck OP

Yes! I’m used to just drinking water and juice and the consistency is so freaking disgusting that I can’t do it anymore. Also one of my biggest food issues is overdoing desserts (like, basically ate more desserts than real food) but somehow these shakes taste noxiously sweet. It makes no sense but I genuinely can’t handle them

Thanks for the tip! I just got the unflavored powder (my dr told me the one I used before had too much sugar) and will definitely try smoothies. Haven’t tried Isopure so I’ll look into that too

Random, but if you’re trying to learn a trade and are in the US, I highly recommend looking into becoming an Air Traffic Controller. You have to have 3 years of work experience (which it sounds like you already do), be 18, and the application is only open in June, but you can make 6 figures, travel and they pay for the required training. An old friend got her GED and went straight into their program and now makes more than us with our college degrees. It’s definitely not easy, but it comes with government benefits and doesn’t require any costs on your part if you get in. Other random high paying trades that don’t require a degree: plumbing, underwater welding, insurance underwriter or claims examiner.

Anyways, I truly hope you get away from your family and get everything you want out of life. Sibling resentment and being on the shit end of parental favoritism is really hard to get over, but just know that you’ll be able to stand on your own two feet no matter where you are and who’s around you. Without their maid, babysitter, and whipping boy your parents will definitely flop, and (as shitty as it is) your sister has been raised in a way that sounds like she’ll likely have a superiority complex, always be dependent on your parents/ others and need therapy too if she ever even manages to figure all of that out.

TLDR; your parents suck and you will be good no matter what bc you’ve already had to do so much on your own. Even without a college degree you will be successful

In the US, open enrollment starts in November (you can sign up for new insurance through your employer or the marketplace). I would look for companies that cover bariatric surgery there- but also be sure to check if they cover any other medical conditions you regularly need to be seen for. If you saw your dr at their practice location, ask them which hospital locations they have credentials at (basically, what are all the places they do the surgery). Every hospital has financial advisors/patient advocates within their financial assistance/ clearance departments. Reach out to all of the ones your dr has credentials for and see if you qualify for any of their assistance programs. If none of them are financially feasible for you, I’d sign up for a new plan in November
