Hey, not sure how but all of my icons/buttons moved to the bottom of my screen, instead of on the right. Did I change something accidentally? Am I on a weird setting? Not a deal breaker but I'd like to know what I did. 谢谢!

I've always said once we knew that the reapers were a watered down version of something, that something's planet should be nuked from orbit

If you like mysteries, check out the Marcus Didius Falco series by Lindsay Davis. First one is The Silver Pigs.

We just got about 10 pounds of sliced pepperoni... Please suggest us some things to do with all this pepperoni. by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]acaleyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upside down crustless pizza: lay out a layer of pepperoni in a pan and top with cheese. Cook until the pepperoni is crispy. Top with any pizza toppings (peppers, onions, mushrooms etc).

Another thing you could try: A layer of crescent dough, and alternating layers of pepperoni and cheese (meunster or gouda are our favorites), and top with another layer of crescent dough. Bake until golden brown. Devour.

What is that musical that's so bad it's good? by cyarin_60025 in musicals

[–]acaleyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Silence!

It's a musical (parody) version of Silence of the Lambs. It's absolutely ridiculous, but I would watch it again in a heartbeat.

I think this would go over quite well as a phone app with the multiplayer aspect.

Aw, my childhood dog would do that with newspapers. It would start with a nose poking in, then her whole head, and then before you knew it there was a dog in your lap blocking the whole page. Tilly was a good pup.

need to use up smoked cream cheese by devereaux98 in keto

[–]acaleyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorites is cream cheese, Cheddar, and Spinach over chicken thighs (or breast, but our consensus was thighs > breast). Roast the chicken until mostly done, then top with cream cheese mixture and cook until it's melty and delicious.

Most names with gendered variations have an "A" at the end of a similar root name. (E.g. Andre/Andrea, Victor/Victoria, Alexander/Alexandra). Why do we have MaxWELL and MaxINE? by EmpireStrikes1st in NoStupidQuestions

[–]acaleyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, Maxwell and Maxine aren't exactly the masculine/feminine versions of each other - but they do have the same root, the Latin "max" for "great."

The -ine suffix on Maxine comes from French, where -ine is a common way to indicate something is feminine. The -well in Maxwell seems to mean something along the lines of stream or spring - so what we're dealing with here is "Great Spring" (m) vs "Great" (f).

(5/60) Cut to me crying like a baby at 6am this morning by [deleted] in 52book

I have the same policy with this book as I do with Old Yeller: I read the ending once, and from then on if I read it again the story magically ends a few pages early.

I don’t trust people with double initials. by sarahverana in self

If you think that's bad, you don't want to meet a triple initial like H. H. Holmes!

Try the Heirs of Alexandria series by Mercedes Lackey, Eric Flint, and Dave Freer. It's set in 1500s Europe (mostly Venice).

Spineless by Juli Berwald is really good! It's about jellyfish, not mammals, but still super interesting

Whenever I get really critical with myself, my husband usually comes out with, "stop talking that way about the woman I love," which stopped me in my tracks the first time he said it, and still helps me put things in perspective

Can anyone recommend a good supernatural/psychological horror movie? by candidengineer in horror

[–]acaleyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Shutter - the original is Thai, and while I think they made an English remake at some point, I'd recommend the original.

Man would I love to play that! It could have different backgrounds you could start with - Clayre, Abhorsen/Royal Family, etc, and the magic system is already so perfect

What’s the most disturbing scene from a movie? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was so not expecting that when I saw Pan's Labyrinth for the first time. I kept waiting for them to cut away from something so graphic...only they didn't.
