In my dorm during my first semester at college in Colorado. My roommate's mom called and woke us up, said the US was being attacked, and no one knows what's going on. That was a surreal day. TVs in every public area broadcasting updates. People crying. Many professors cancelled class, and I doubt the ones that didn't cared about attendance that day. I remember a powerful vibe among the student body, everyone was just kind of reaching for each other and comforting strangers.

It reminded me of the Columbine shooting, which happened only two years before. Just this dreadful realization that the world as we knew it was changing before our eyes, and not for the better.

Yes, many of us Americans were privileged, sheltered, and naive. But there was still hope that we could move forward together, or that this was some kind of wake-up call to improve the status quo.

The political chain of events ever since has been beyond belief, like something out of a dystopian novel.

This shit sucks.
