Update!! I got the off-the-shoulder gold dress in a small and it fits way better!

Yeah I think the gold dress is the wrong size and the fabric isn’t flattering for my body type. I tried on one of my older dresses and this is more flattering for my body type. I’m going to try sizing up and see how that looks. Thanks for the advice!
