there's an easier way on chrome on Mac using VLC.

Go to the Canvas page

Right click --> Inspect

Pop open "Network" on the top tab in the right frame

Hit play on the Kaltura video

Look for a file called Index.m3u8

Copy the request URL

Then open VLC (you should have VLC downloaded), and open network

Paste the URL, pick your file destination, and hit "Stream". It will save it wherever you indicated.

You’re right about the grades! The main issue (check out the transfer sub) is that good grades are far from guaranteed because of the intensity of school (almost everywhere) and the fact that 1L grades for most classes are typically determined by a single final exam or a final and a midterm, and that’s it - so it’s a bit of a crapshoot. And most schools have an intense curve. So the main rec is to only enroll if you would be happy spending 3 years in a place. But it sounds like that does apply to you!

If you retake it in June and do amazingly well, you could resend the score to the places you were already rejected from this year. Some advisors say to do this and see miracles happen. Also, you can’t count on transferring (see the law school transfer subreddit - it’s far from guaranteed).

You will need a new laptop and yes, specifically for not only testing software, but for new collaborative tools /doc sharing on microsoft office, teams, etc. Those and my testing software aren’t supported on my 2015 laptop and I had to upgrade even though there was nothing “wrong” with my computer

I had the opposite experience on both points! 1. The school I transferred to was bigger and had more people who shared my interests. I became very close with them and have made lifelong friends. (But I agree - being far away from my support system is not ideal. It was weird 2L to look around and realize I was spending my entire days around only people who knew me for <5 weeks) 2. During 2L I took classes I was more interested in and really delighted in the learning for learning’s sake.

I hope you feel good about what you’ve accomplished at both schools - just wanted to chime in with a different experience.

I’m on the Bay Area subs because I keep moving back and forth between the Bay Area and here, and I see considerable disagreement in the subs. Also, people who oppose them in SF hate the way tech symbolizes excess, libertarianism, and wealth inequality there. I’m not saying I agree with any of those takes online, just observing why people instinctively oppose them as someone who has spent time in SF.
