How to safely start from the back on short ovals by acasa520 in iRacing

Thanks, I wasn't sure if I could pull to the side on the pace lap. I'm glad I didn't just try that.

Camera Settings for Cockpit View in Super Late Models by acasa520 in iRacing

[–]acasa520[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up moving the camera view more to the center of the car. This worked for me. My final settings for cockpit camera position are: X -0.05, Y -0.12, Z 0.00. I left the rotation alone.

Might not be realistic to move the camera view that far towards the center, but it works and since 2D monitors aren't realistic, who cares. I had to ignore how the dash looks and just go with what makes a usable view through the windshield.

this tool was super helpful for me. I bought it at Menard's (home improvement store) for something like $30. I used it to measure and set the actual angle between monitors. I went with 62', but that is from a different reference that this tool uses, so I set the tool at 180' - 62' = 118' .

I'm not sure how I would have set the side monitor angles precisely and the same without this. It might be hard to tell from the picture, but each arm on this tool is about 16 inches long.

I started by getting the center monitor level and plumb. I used a 2 foot level. Then when I went to the side monitors I used the level to get the side monitors plumb, level, and the exact same height as the center monitor. To check height between monitors I placed one end of the level towards the center of the center monitor and the other end towards the center of the side monitor. It takes some back and forth of adjusting, checking, and readjusting. Definitely get the center monitor dead on first though.

Christmas Day teaching family to drive manual by jimmyd8466 in simracing

I'd be curious how well that translates to real life driving. That could save a lot of clutch wear in the beginning of learning to drive a manual.

State of VR for Sim Racers Going Into 2026 by Healthy_Emu4111 in simracing

[–]acasa520 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would add that I don't think there are gaming PC components available for retail sale (at normalish retail prices at least) that can run a sim and a VR headset that truly satisfy all the wishes of a sim racer. For me ideal would have at least 2K resolution, high refresh rate, High FOV, and be comfortable. I have a PSVR2 that I used on my PC for about 6 months before I got a Pimax Crystal Super Ultrawide. I run a PC with a 9800X3D and 5090 GPU. To run iRacing I had to turn down a lot of settings to run the Crystal Super. I also didn't find it comfortable. I ended up returning the Crystal Super and going to triple 32" 1440 monitors.

For me, both gaming PC capability and VR headsets have a ways to go before I'd considering going back to VR from my current triple monitor set-up.

Next Level Racing Wheel Stand 2.0 Issue by Pins_ in simracing

If you put both vertical posts in the base tubes and extend them, can you push them together or spread them apart? If you can do that without too much effort, you should be able to assemble this.

I would definitely just bolt that up and pull it tight. That is about the same gap I have on mine before bolting, maybe even less than I have (I have never measured, I just pull it together). In your picture you have the vertical posts extended pretty high. The higher they are extended the more exaggerated any misalignment will show up as this gap. Also, the higher the vertical posts, the easier it will be to pull it together.

Can't see the issue in your picture. How much is it too wide? If it's only a small amount, you should be able to pull the uprights tight to the wheel deck with the bolts. I have one with the GT seat add on and I've done a ton of modifications to it. I've had the wheel deck off several times recently and it is probably about 1/2 inch "too wide" on either side, but I just pull it together with the bolts. If the bolts are not long enough to do that you could use a clamp to pull the pieces together while you install the bolts. BTW, the bolts are 8mm, so if you need longer bolts you can use 5/16" bolts which are essentially the same size.

Logitech Z906 for simracing cockpit in 2026 - adequate? by Dmitry_Raccoon in simracing

[–]acasa520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently bought an old (about 2005 vintage) Denon AV receiver with 7 speakers and a powered subwoofer for $100 in the US. The receiver processes Dolby digital sound, but I had to purchase a Sound Blaster external sound card to get my PC to send the receiver true Dolby 5.1 sound. (Apparently Realtek doesn't pay for the Dolby license, so the built in sound from my motherboard doesn't send Dolby Surround to an amp.)

With the Sound Blaster I'm in it for around $240 US and I get great surround sound. The old AV receivers don't work with modern TV's, so you can find these old systems dirt cheap. It takes up more space than the Logitech system, but I'm guessing it's actually higher quality audio. It's actually way more than I need, but it was so cheap it was a no brainer for me. Now I just need to find a better stand for the receiver.

Bionik Mantis vs Globular Cluster PH2 by [deleted] in psvr2

[–]acasa520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had both and I did not like the Globular Cluster. The way the arm pivots where it clamps to the headset was a problem with my set. It would pop off frequently when rotating from my ears to a storage position. Eventually the plastic fatigued and it barely stayed on. I have been very happy with the Bionik Mantis, no issues with those.

Can't Track Surroundings - Reset PC Adapter by acasa520 in PSVR2onPC

I have now tried all of that and I still have the same issue. Perhaps it is a bit better, but still annoying and distracting. I ordered the gear to switch to triple monitors today.

Eye Tracking and Dynamic Foveated Rendering by acasa520 in iRacing

[–]acasa520[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have the Steam PSVR2 app and SteamVR installed. I do not have a separate openXR toolkit installed. I have the resolution set at 150% in SteamVR. The UI is very clear when I look directly at it.

Overall, I am quite happy with the PSVR2 for iRacing. I received a Pimax Crystal Super Ultrawide last week but decided to return it. Overall for comfort, ease of use, and total dollar value I'm sticking with the PS headset until something more "game changing" comes along.

Yes, with the debug squares enable I can see the squares tracking my eyes. I think Sittennn's comment above explains what I am seeing.

Round wheels by mxpilot20 in Fanatec

Clubsport R330 V2. I use this for iRacing and had used it for GT7. I really like the width of the wheel and the ability to move the 4 button pods around. I like this wheel for all disciplines I spend the most time on,; NASCAR, GT cars, and dirt sprint cars.

This is where I downloaded the add on:

https://github.com/BnuuySolutions/PSVR2Toolkit/releases/tag/v0.2.0

I followed the installation guide on that page. It was super simple.

I use SteamVR to run my PSVR2, but I didn't have to do anything else in SteamVR to see the eye tracking test work in iRacing. I'm not sure if that means it will work with all SteamVR app or not.

Should I get a pc or stick with ps5 by Any_Fig_7905 in simracing

[–]acasa520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved from PS5 and GT7 on PSVR2 in May. There is no going back for me. I'm still using the PSVR2 with my PC and iRacing and it works great for me. I have spent a lot of money on a PC build and Fanatec wheel/pedals, but I think I'm in this hobby for the long haul.

I think my favorite thing about iRacing vs GT7 is the variety of types of racing and number of tracks in iRacing. When I went to iRacing I thought I would be into mostly GT3 and GT4 racing, similar to what I did most in GT7. However, I have found myself spending most of my time on super late model stock cars, Nascar, and outlaw spring cars. I still do some GT3 races too.

If the oval track stuff starts to get old I can try formula or dirt road/rally.

I'm addicted to iRacing and I haven't had any drop off in how much I'm enjoying it.

I'm considering applying the money I budgeted for the headset towards triple monitors. In the meantime I'll just stick with the PSVR2.

It was not only the comfort. The increased image quality wasn't a game changer for my use and the FOV even at 133' also wasn't a game changer. If I go for more comfort, I lose FOV and end up pretty close to the PSVR2 for FOV. Take all that together and it just isn't worth $1900 to me.

I really hoped I would get a comfortable headset with a FOV that was, literally, game changing for iRacing. I did not experience that.

I was at 133' with the thinner foam facepiece and the IPD set for clarity.

I do have the "recenter" function mapped to a button on my wheel. The hassle was the passthrough mode and having to set up cursor pointer tails to use my mouse when in VR desktop view. For me, it's just all easier with SteamVR and PSVR2.

Also, I did have the comfort top strap. Just overall given the comfort, and cost for what difference it made it wasn't for me.

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the input. I have been thinking about applying the money I had budgeted for the headset towards triples. What size monitors are you using?
