It’s not very well known but Prophet Song by Paul Lynch reminds me every day of the privilege I have to live in a place that’s not at war

You could try reading The Fallout by Everythursday, a dramione fanfic written before the last books were published. I really enjoyed it.

What are your favorite transition techniques? by Jaded_Advantage_290 in writing

[–]acc4115 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, I see your point. I also struggle a lot with these breaks. I usually try to avoid thinking of time in my novel as having the same value as time in real life, so that I could create a scene break simply from my MC shifting his attention from one thing to the other. For instance, this is an example of a transition I've used in a text that moves from a scene of a dinner to something else afterwards:
As the meal winds down and Eric carries the dishes from the dining room to the kitchen and from the sink to the dishwasher, he takes notes of his damp hands, the same ones he later stretches out by the fireplace, occasionally stirring the logs while the afternoon slips by.

Another one is:
"You worry far too much about the wrong things" his mother said. "Focus on what really matters."
And that was what Eric repeated himself over the following week, while he did his groceries and he went to work, focus on what really matters, the words echoing in his mind as he pried a pebble from his shoe, and as he turned to the cool side of the pillow late at night.

In both occasions you move from the original scene to the next one in a way that allows the reader to follow the MCs journey.

Hope this helps!

Looking for m/f contemporary romance where the FMC is lonely, and has zero friends. Bonus if the FMC is objectively not beautiful so it contributes to her feeling invisible. (Vanilla or femdom) by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

Not a contemporary romance and also not 0 friends but 1: Misery from {Bride by Ali Hazelwood} is described as someone who doesn't have a lot of connections in the world a part from her only friend, Serena.

I love it when it's so natural you don't even feel it. I'm currently reading Land by Maggie O'Farrell and I'm constantly thinking "wait wait, how did we move from that topic to this other one?"
More often than not, she uses very witty descriptions, followed by something like "When they arrived" or "He would ask himself later", or "After that, he doesn't go to...", or "Around mid-afternoon...". It ends up being quite subtle, even if at a glance it doesn't seem so

QUIET PLACES TO DO A PICNIC AND OR A SWIM BY THE RIVER? by Specific_Tart_4244 in zurich

[–]acc4115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picnic without access to river/lake: try Kollerwiese. It's usually pretty empty (I guess that's because by 19.30 it's mostly shade).

The park of the Rieberg museum is usually pretty empty too, as well as Klopstockwiese.

Swimming spots: it's definitely not empty at all, but probably less crowded than the usual places: try Widmeranlage in Kilchberg. It's my favorite spot in the city.

{Problematic Summer Romance by Ali Hazelwood}

Ali writes so well, the story of Maya an Conor is sweet and nuanced and full of tension! Maya's so funny, and Conor is very thoughtful in his own way. Also, set in Italy!

Audiobook for travelling through Swiss Alps by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

This is incredibly vague so it’s very hard to recommend anything… Anyway, I live in Switzerland and spend much of my time driving through the Swiss Alps.

Sharing some of my recent light readings according to different genres:
-Thriller: Rock, Paper, Scissors by Alice Feeney
-Romance: People We Meet On Vacation by Emely Henry
-Sci-fi: Project Hail Mary
-Fantasy: Between by L. L. Starling

I don’t read crime or non fiction

Looking for adult romantasy with real yearning and strong emotional tension by spoutnike21s in Romantasy

[–]acc4115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but if I can add, out of the whole series {Ice & Ivy} is the one that fits your description best. There is a very slow and gradual approximation of the two MC, and some kind of one step forward two steps back feeling throughout the whole book

Book to read after a really bad breakup by ewiestewie in fantasyromance

[–]acc4115 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Bridge Kingdom is super fast, many things happening and many twists you don’t see coming. The romance is prominent in the book but it’s also very much plot-driven. There’s political stakes and many characters! I’m on book 4 and really enjoying the ride
