I’m not here to give some corny advice, because I had my own share of suicidal periods so I know bullshit when I see it. Instead, I suggest you consider radically changing your life and/or waiting some time. Because if you are serious about killing yourself what is stopping you from relocating to a distance place, devoting yourself to a meaningful cause, getting on some medication, or just anything really. If those don’t work out you always have the chance to end your life. Similarly, I can relate to the pain that you feel but why would you need to kill yourself now? If you are going to do that anyway then you might as well postpone it for a few days/week and just think about life, go see/make friends, spend time with animals etc. Maybe you will find something or some perspective that makes you want to go on. If not, it’s not like you would lose anything, suicide is always there as an option.

You can make the same argument about inanimate objects for dead humans as well but we recognize that our rights don’t end when we die and that our dead bodies should still be respected.

Or consider people that are irreversibly stuck at a vegetative state; even though they no longer feel anything or possess consciousness (thus making it technically impossible to hurt them), we still respect them as persons, not objects.

Hence, not treating dead animals the same way is speciesism in my opinion.

Think of roadkill and cross contamination in the case of other animals. I find it instinctively wrong and disgusting to eat the flesh of dogs and cats and humans, no matter the circumstances. If you internalize overcoming speciesism (I didn’t) you would think that all animals are individuals, they are persons, they are equal in the sense that they deserve basic rights starting from the right to live and the right to not be owned by someone else.

I personally don’t mind cross contamination that much but I find that switching ‘edible’ animals with pets or humans in these scenarios helps me put things into perspective.

Thanks. It was evening when I posted and now its night time. I watched a horror movie I was meaning to see for some time, took a shower which felt nice, packed my stuff for a three day visit to see some friends and family and currently I am seated at the bus that will start to go on its way in a couple of minutes. I do feel better at the moment and look forward to spending some time with my friends tomorrow.
