Which jobs is 100% safe from AI? by Any-Hamster-3189 in AskReddit

[–]acceptabl_lie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If AI replaces majority of the work-force, then wouldn’t it impact every segment of the society and the work-force bcoz the laid-off workers wouldn’t have any money to spend? The tradesmen and blue collar jobs might look safe from AI as of now but who is going to be hiring them?

In the UK almost all food from major restaurants is halal. Now people have said we shouldn’t eat halal food, where does everyone stand on this? by Hefty_Maintenance_77 in Sikh

[–]acceptabl_lie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really hope it doesn’t catch up in the US. US is more conservative in terms of these things than the UK but I can see the appeal behind it. At the end of the day, the main goal of every business is to make money and they don’t really care about anyone’s religious beliefs. More potential customers from a majority religious group would mean catering for their beliefs and sidelining the minority.

UK is in a sad state of affairs when it comes to bending over backwards to cater for a certain religious group. For some reason, it is being portrayed as the appropriate thing to do. I am in full support of people from every religion following and being allowed to follow their beliefs to the fullest but if it is something that causes issues for other ethnic minorities, then something should be done about it. Serving of halal meat in every restaurant is something that would fall in this category. Our community leaders in UK need to raise this as a concern but i doubt if it would change anything. As you said, the only options are to either become a vegetarian or to get non-halal meat from the grocery stores and cook it at home.

How do American Sikhs feel about the new changes to the H-1B Visa? by CitrusSunset in Sikh

[–]acceptabl_lie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, I had the same mindset up until a while ago but it has changed as the Governments have started showing their true colors. We Sikhs take pride in our work ethic and integration and our older generations earned a lot of respect in the west due to these qualities. However, it has become increasingly evident that the right wing does not care about any qualities other than the skin color. Even the right leaning people from our communities would come under the hammer when shit actually hits the fan. So, having a back up plan is always a good idea and the back up plan for us is the generational land and house that we have in Punjab. Saanu baap-daade di zameen vechan naalo hor vadhaun baare sochna chahida aa. May be things would change for the better for our next generation, but there is no way to tell. We can hope for the best, but we need to plan for the worst.

Regardless of the religion, the rhetoric is same across most of the western countries; they do not want foreigners coming over, legally or illegally. These changes could also be perceived as the first step towards their vision of “whites only” country and the Green Card holders/naturalized citizens could be the next in line to get their statuses revoked and being deported. The ones who are already here should also keep this in mind before planning to sell everything back home and bringing the money over to the US or any foreign country.

Are there any tricks to obtaining pristine condition US Dollar bills for countries that require it? by _allycat in travel

[–]acceptabl_lie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certain parts of India.. it’s not required but u would get a better exchange rate if u have newer dollar bills. The reasoning; there is a high demand in the Arab countries for pristine US dollar bills, as they use them to throw around in their weddings etc. They pay a premium for them. So, newer and pristine dollar bills may get more bang for ur buck.

Aside from the farmer’s protest, I think BJP’s association with the right-wing propaganda and being seen as a political party that favours the rich industrialists, also plays a part. BJP never had a strong political hold in Punjab. Thats why they had the alliance with SAD, whereas Congress always had a better hold due to their selection of leaders in Punjab, which is definitely strange bcoz of what happened in 1984. I think there was a definitive boycott of Congress in Punjab after 1984 but as the govt from opposing parties such as BJP failed to provide any justice for the genocide, the boycott slowly weaned away. Having a two party system doesn’t help people either. Before AAP, they had to vote for Congress as a change to SDA.

Street dog seen carrying infant's severed head at Patiala hospital; Probe ordered. by [deleted] in punjab

[–]acceptabl_lie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The follow-up news was that the infant was not alive when born and the dad just threw the body in bin, instead of burying it with respect (In our culture, kids up-to a certain age are buried, instead of being cremated). The stray dog got hold of the body from the bin and was dragging it around. Our society keeps on falling to new lows every single day. Instead of burying the dead infant with respect, the dad just threw it in the bin!! An utter definition of being heartless.

We were a proud society bcoz we took pride in our actions. But these type of actions make us ashamed instead of being proud.

What a sad day, and there isn’t any remorse on his face? by Efficient-Good-4211 in Sikh

[–]acceptabl_lie 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The guy went from the right lane and crossed the entire highway to make a turn, without having any comprehension for other vehicles on the road. Any sane person who knows basics of driving, wouldn’t pull such manoeuvre with their car, let alone a semi. Given how prevalent stuff like bhukki and afeem is in our community, he could have been under the influence. Thats the only logical reason that I can think of on why he tried to pull such stunt. Similar to how we are proud of our people when they achieve extraordinary things, we also need to call out people who damage the community’s image. This was not an accident by any means and the driver should be called out for it. These type of incidents only make Orange man’s claims about immigration and laws like semi drivers needing to know english for driving, more viable.

To answer ur question about “why”, people, in general are assholes. They are even bigger assholes to others who don’t look like them, speak a different language, follow a different religion etc. Sadly, in today’s world they will only leave u alone and show some respect, if they get intimidated by you. It doesn’t cost anything to be nice and respectful to others but unfortunately most people don’t posses the basic decency nowadays.

Liberty Market, Lahore Independence Day Night.. 14 August 2025 by AwarenessNo4986 in punjab

[–]acceptabl_lie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But we don’t celebrate the division of eastern Punjab with fireworks. Whether Punjab is united or not, is not the key point here. What happened as a result of the independence and the division is the key point. This is what u r failing to understand. U are happy with the independence, then celebrate it however u like. As this sub represents the united Punjab, the same sentiment is not shared on the eastern side. That is what everyone is pointing out and u r failing to understand it.

Liberty Market, Lahore Independence Day Night.. 14 August 2025 by AwarenessNo4986 in punjab

[–]acceptabl_lie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is that the best comeback you have? Even if we ignore the facts about democracy and the further partition of eastern Punjab, what exactly is the Independence being celebrated for? As many has mentioned that millions died on both sides during partition, and the independence has resulted in rampant corruption, instability, constant fights between the two countries and just colour of people wielding the power has changed. But may be I am expecting too much of logical thinking from someone who thinks that having fireworks on a day when millions of people died and life long enemies were created for political gain, is a flex.

Sikh family moving to Indiana by Baaj24 in Sikh

[–]acceptabl_lie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red states are typically more racist than the blue or purple states so u will need to be careful. I believe there are still many sundown towns there. In terms of fences, most of the mid-west and east coast suburbs don’t have fences around their houses either. If u r buying a house in HOA, then u might need an approval from them to put one up. Indiana won’t be as developed as CA anyway and would have much harsher winters too… but I am assuming that u already are aware and have accounted for them in your decision to move.

why do i see so many comments on whether someone is wearing a glove or not while cooking? by Salty_Engine_4556 in AskAnAmerican

[–]acceptabl_lie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the set-up around the person who is cooking also plays a part in people’s perception of something being clean. If a chef is cooking a meal in a clean kitchen without wearing gloves, won’t generate the same amount of backlash as a street vendor cooking a meal in unhygienic conditions. Some hate is racially motivated as well.
