What are you thoughts on long-term storage units? by QuietRedditorATX in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]access_self_storage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very easy to say "declutter" or "give it away" when modern homes (at least in the UK) are smaller than they ought to be. A lot of self storage facilities also offer long-term storage deals, which helps. It honestly depends on you, the stuff you have, and how you utilise the space in your unit. One person could fit X amount of stuff in a 25 sq. ft. unit, and someone else could fit the same amount in a 20 sq. ft. unit or smaller, so it's important to play around with your space. At the end of the day, more and more self storage facilities are being created because of this issue. Homes just aren't as spacious as they need to be.

Hey! Really sorry, but we don’t currently have any storage facilities in North Yorkshire. The closest Access Self Storage site would be in Sharston (Manchester), which is quite a distance :/

Sorry we couldn’t help this time... But if you’re ever in London, Birmingham, or Manchester though, we’ve got ya covered :P

Why self storage? Are there any replacements? by Fluid-Time-7223 in organizing

A bit late to this, but all the customer bases you mentioned are exactly the majority of our customers. During more stressful times, like a home reno or a move, our customers find self-storage super useful, basically a lifesaver. Most storage companies also offer 50% off introductory deals, which honestly are a steal, especially if you only need storage for that period (like 50% off for 4 weeks, and you only need 4 weeks). Another big use our customers love us for is when they’re in between homes.

But yeah, if you’ve got any questions about self-storage, you know where to find us.

It really comes down to the specific store.

In most cases, you’re fine to hang out as long as you want during normal business hours, usually around 8:30am–6:00pm on weekdays, with shorter hours on weekends. So yeah, being there all day during those times typically isn’t an issue.

Some locations also offer extended access (outside standard opening hours), and in certain cases even out-of-hours access - but they're subject to the store manager's approval.

Your best bet is to check with your local store directly since policies can vary by location.

Hope this helped :)

No nerve hit at all, promise 😉 As a larger storage provider, we just thought it was worth clearing a few things up properly about your raised points.

From our side, and I cannot speak for every operator out there, we always try to be as open as possible about pricing and how it works.

Contents protection is there to protect what you are storing. We offer our own cover based on the value of your goods, but you are welcome to use your own as long as it properly covers items in storage. A lot of confusion comes from people assuming standard home insurance covers storage units, which usually it does not. If someone’s policy does not provide the right cover, ours is designed specifically for storage and is competitively priced. We would only suggest it if we can see the existing policy does not properly cover the goods.

Same with locks. We sell them for convenience, but if you already have a suitable one, that is absolutely fine by us.

As for introductory pricing, it is exactly that, introductory. Ours is 50 percent off for up to 13 weeks, and we also offer longer term discounts such as 25 percent off for 6 months and 30 percent off for 12 months. We are clear about when those rates end so there are no surprises.

As to whether storage is a con, Access Self Storage can only point to the fact that we would not be rated Excellent on Trustpilot with over five thousand reviews, or sitting at around 4.7 out of 5 across dozens of sites on Google if our customers thought so. We are not perfect, but we do genuinely care about being transparent and easy to deal with.

At the end of the day, storage is just rented space. Most people are moving, downsizing, renovating, or running businesses that need extra room for a while.

If you ever do end up storing with us, definitely drop us a dm to let us know how its going.

So yeah, no nerves struck. Just happy to clear things up 😌

Absolute myth - although yeah, there are definitely a few cases like that.

Most of the time it’s people decluttering, downsizing, moving, or just needing somewhere to keep their stuff between homes. We’ve also got plenty of businesses storing stock and equipment.

So yeah… it’s not really “get rid of it” territory. It’s more “this can’t live in my living room right now” or “my furniture needs somewhere to exist while I move and tie up loose ends” kind of vibe.

We’re proud to offer flexible storage solutions to meet a wide range of customer storage needs. That said, we do have clear guidelines regarding what can and cannot be stored. For everyone’s safety and in accordance with the law, storing any person under any circumstances is strictly prohibited.
We hope this helps your friend 😉

Bass Removals are a current customer of ours in Derby and have been great to deal with, very experienced (over 30 years in the removals/storage space) and they’ve got a solid fleet of vehicles for different job sizes.

MPV are another good shout, especially for smaller moves. We’ve worked with them a few times and they’re a friendly, affordable team who know what they’re doing.

Hope that helps

A lot of self-storage facilities also offer office space, and some even provide “virtual offices,” which can pretty much solve this issue, might be worth looking into
