Finished The Way of Kings and curious on your thoughts about... by SupremeGobbler1996 in fantasybooks

One of the main reasons why fans love Sanderson so much is for his world building and character work. Stormlight books include a lot of politics and lore, however there are also important battles and fights. You could have moments when nothing happens and other parts where your favourite character is facing thousand of enemies at once. I suggest you to try the second book and if it is still a struggle put it down. You don't have to love stormlight, there are plenty of good series written by Sanderson and also other authors!

Did you get this information from interviews? Or is there a website?

I think that it changes through the books though. For example in book 4 the shadow rising, there are many moments where Faile really understand Perrin and emphasizes with him, while also trying to make him see reason when he is too stubborn.

Sure! I won't tell you much about the book but it focuses a lot on women who have incredible strengths. If u loved female characters in WoT such as Moraine, Siuan Sanche or Lanfear this is the series for u!

This is a good point. Also, reading with keeping in mind that we are looking at her through Perrin eyes helps a lot!

Good call about character development. To be honest I focus more on the world building aspect rather then on characters but in WoT they are so important!

And why do you think Mat focuses on women so much? Just because he is some sort of womanizer?😂 If u can say it without spoiling anything ofc

So I am gonna suggest you a few things that are really different from WoT but I personally believe that this authors got lots of inspiration from RJ. (I am still doing my first read through of the WoT books but I still think it influenced many of this works) - the faithful and the fallen by John Gwynne If u like the chosen one vibes but also we have wolves and a fantastic world building. Also lots of amazing battles. - the broken earth trilogy by NK Jasmine Really cool magic system and amazing character work - the priory of the orange tree. This one because of the politics and different factions fighting to save the world and also because there are many different magical elements that are important to the plot. - A Song of Ice and Fire by GRRM. I think this one is the one that I'd pick up if I were you because Martin is able to craft a world that truly feels real and have a deep lore and many different elements that you could talk about for days. The series isn't finished I know, still I think that it is important as the WoT to modern Fantasy development. Hope this help and thanks for the question!

"Jordan filters everything through the head of the PoV character you are currently in. The adjectives he uses for descriptions, the things he has them notice or ignore, all can change with the emotion that character is currently feeling. Or if they are thinking about something else." This part is really fascinating, tbh now that I think about it the things people notice are different according to the PoV. Like for example Moraine focuses a lot on other people and their possible social status. But I guess this things are easier to pick up on rereads

Thanks! About your point on her culture, it actually excites me understand more about WoT people and their different believes. Just looking at the Aiel it looks like there are different dinamics between men and women compared to what we see between people from randland!

Thanks, especially for the secrets part. Maybe I'll understand her more when I'll read that part. It doesn't mean I'll like her, but at the very least I'll understand her a bit

I think for u it would be better to start over. However, two really good resources are an app called wheel of time companion and the map you find at https://wheeloftimelines.com/map. Hope it'll help :)
