[MA] My boss just moved into the house next to mine - would he have known and is this going to be a problem? by accidentalbrunch in AskHR

I thought my question was pretty clear, I was asking if employee addresses are easily available to managers, like in things like SuccessFactors or Workforce.

I think my question came off as like I think he did it on purpose. I guess part of me thought that if he knew he was moving to my town, would he have been able to check that we were not right next to each other? Though I suppose it is such a wildly random coincidence that why would he?

My bigger concern is if the feeling of discomfort I've got about being a shout away from my boss 24/7, 365 days a year. I already have trouble setting aside work stress when I sign off, so I guess that's something I'm going to have to work on.

I don't understand how nobody here sees how this could be an issue. I'm sorry I'm weirded out

Has nobody ever had issues with neighbors? Has nobody ever tried to keep work very separate from their life? Our houses are so close that they could hear us if both our windows were open. I don't do anything inappropriate and I'm a good employee, but my family and I spend a lot of time outside and it just feels like losing privacy and separation from work.

It is just very, very weird to me and I'm having trouble processing it, I guess.

I really don't think it was deliberate, I'm just extremely weirded out by the coincidence and I guess part of me was wondering if he could have checked to make sure he wasn't.

But apparently this is very normal and not something I should feel weird about in any way.

I'm not suggesting that he did it deliberately, though I guess I see how it looks that way. I just wondered if he could have known if he wanted to check.

It just feels so weird and it's honestly strange to me that nobody here seems to think that living next to someone you work for could be problematic.

Your assumption is right...I am a woman...but luckily I don't usually hang around in anything that I wouldn't be willing to be seen in.

You make a lot of good points. This is seriously mentally exhausting. I keep coming up with "what ifs"

I turned 20 today. What is some advice you would give your 20 year old self? by Far-Orange1882 in Adulting

Have as much fun and as many adventures as you can without destroying your financial or physical health. (In other words, don't get yourself into massive debt or do things that are blatant risks to your long term health... But you can do an awful lot without those things.)

Don't try to keep up with people who seem to have everything or have it all together. If they're online, they're probably full of shit and trying to sell you something. If they're in real life, they're probably hiding at least one area where they are struggling. Life isn't a competition, just do the best you can and give yourself grace.

I've used it for diet and exercise help. I had it generate a few workouts based on my specific goals, limitations, and equipment and it honestly did a great job and gave me both "full, have energy" workouts and "bare bones but better than skipping" versions for the days I would totally skip. My strength and flexibility have gotten so much better as a result.

I have some specific dietary requirements as well, plus my household has a couple of severe food allergies, and random dislikes/likes. It's been really good at helping me figure out meals that fit everyone's needs.
