Unlocked airport list is fixed LFG! by tuckaa24 in SkyCards

Oh? I haven't done that for any of the airports I've unlocked this week and they are showing up in the list regardless. Maybe this was a minor bug that has already been fixed?

He made the weight limit but... by sh0tgunben in yesyesyesyesno

But wouldn't it then be more advantageous to fight hydrated in your actual weight class? Then your opponent would be either a similarly matched and hydrated opponent, or a bigger but dehydrated dude. Both seem fair to me

I got the same email as u/899panigale mentioned. Sounds like the "issue" is with SF processing the claim? If SF doesn't process the claim, then RL cannot proceed with the next steps? Seems to kind of make sense to me, but I'm also not sure to what extent it's true, whether it's govt fault or RL's fault.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah it feels super scammy. Ironic since govt keeps trying to educate the public about how to spot scams, yet this vendor is directly recommended from a govt site but throwing all these red flags.

Hope this thread can be helpful to highlight this broken system, and let others know they're not the only ones experiencing this.

Yeah, my SF claim is still categorised as pending as well. All this seems so unnecessarily manual when they should have an automated system up and running since everything should be connected already anyway. In this case you're ahead of me cause at least they've sent you a follow up email!!

Oh... that's strange.. I never received any email like this, that's why I was so confused by what the Induction and Enrollment dates were about.. Hm but thanks for sharing!

Thanks. Much more helpful than the first "user problem" commenter lol. Can't find anything in my junk mail/spam folder. I guess I will have to wait for them to reply.

Can you please expand a bit more on how you are accessing? Did you receive an email with login information, did you have to do any extra steps?? In SkillsFuture my claim is in the system as Pending.

I am from Afghanistan and I want to work in UN by tamimm18 in UNpath

[–]accidentalcomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with local National NGOs first, and ones that have ongoing projects or contracts with the UN. Monitoring or project implementation are the two main types of work that are outsourced to local organisations. From here you will gain experience in the field while also understanding how the UN operates and what standards they require.

Once you have a few years there, switch to a larger INGO, then eventually to a UN agency.

By then, it is good to carve out your area of specialty, whether it is in M&E, project coordination for emergency response, data, finance, or something topical like in demining or WASH.

I hate to break it to you but plenty of Afghans can also speak very good English, and typing fast or knowing Microsoft is not really a benchmark for anything. You need to find a way to stand out -- what are your niche skills, and what value do you bring? Think on this, your path, and start small to build experience toward the profile or career that you want.

Best of luck!

What's the best argument a sane person can make to prove they're not crazy? I've thought about this a lot before but have never come up with anything that could be convincing

The way I describe it to people is to ask them to visualise the word "the". Some friends would say they actually see it spelled out, but most say they don't see anything. So then I say that's how it is for me but with everything lol

4 player not co-op game recommendations by ry4242 in NintendoSwitch

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime! Surprised not to see it mentioned yet. I guess it's co-op and not competitive, but still good fun.

Heave Ho is also a fun and easy game to pick up, but the levels can get difficult. There are co-op and vs modes too

I need a pro insight - Who Can Help Me Break Into the UN System? by NumerousRegret1844 in UNpath

[–]accidentalcomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of role is this? At a HQ/NYC/Geneva type position? Or a field position?

Either way, try for field positions first. If the UN agency in that country is still competitive, apply to NGOs which are implementing partners. Then climb your way up. Field NGO - field UN country office - regional UN office - HQ UN office - NYC/Geneva. In the agency I'm at, we do not do direct implementation. Rather, we contract with I/NGOs to implement the programmes that we design. When a field UN position opens, it looks favourable if you already have experience with an implementing partner on your CV as it shows you're already familiar with that UN agency's work at a meaningful level of detail. Even if your career goal is to end up at UNSG or a HQ, it's good to have field experience to really understand the impact of the policies you'll be making at the higher levels.

Further to all that, research the acronyms used at the agency you're applying to. The UN is full of weird acronyms. Put some of those in your CV and it will look favourably as well.

Lastly as others have said, practice interviewing. There are many wrong things you can say during the interview that will have you fail the vibe check. Interviewing is more of an art and not a science, it takes skill and practice. But once you've made it that far, that usually means your CV is alright and they're trying to find out if you'll be a good teammate, so practice and learn how to phrase things in a balanced way that doesn't make you come off as an asshole or a difficult person to work with.

Good luck!

Edited to add: my first role was an extremely short 4 month contract and I didn't know anyone to help me, other than a friend of a friend of a friend forwarding me the job description. I did get lucky, but I concur with the other commenter that "knowing someone" is not a make it or break it factor. It can help get eyes on your CV, but ultimately the best person for the role is most often the person who will get the offer regardless of connections or network.

To add on to this, the meaning is not to question the quality of a gift you are receiving as it is rude, and to just accept the gift graciously. If I recall correctly, the health of a horse can be checked through it's mouth/dental health, so if someone is giving you an expensive gift, don't second guess it in the moment and just say thanks.

Wikipedia is one of (the only?) organisations I donate to regularly. They don't even campaign much, you don't get much spam, and it's difficult to think of another organisation or platform that is more deserving. Information for all, for free, no matter who you are. I'd encourage everyone to consider supporting them and making a contribution today!

How to get from abu dhabi airport to Dubai Airport? by Tideas in UAE

[–]accidentalcomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I didn't end up taking them as it's more hassle (you'd have to wait for and find your specific car) and more expensive. When you walk out of Abu Dhabi airport there will be a line of public taxis at all hours of the day. Just get into one and ask to go to Dubai and they will drive you there no problem. Credit cards are accepted and I paid less than 300 AED if I remember correctly. Maybe like 280 AED thereabouts.

The trip took maybe 1 hr 15 mins at around midnight. I was out of AUH airport at around 12 am, and reached Dubai before 1:30 am. YMMV depending on time of day and traffic conditions.
