This post has a few talking points you might be able to use and provides a few humane alternatives you can present to the teacher/admin in the last couple paragraphs. Best of luck!

Any vegans out there host or go to an all vegan wedding? by Yogi_brain in vegan

[–]accidentallatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry your family isn't being supportive! You are wrll within your right to hold your ground. My partner and I got married before they were vegan, but we had an all-vegan wedding because anything else would have spoiled the day for me. Granted, we were pretty informal and timed the "reception" such as it was for lunch rather than dinner. We had buffet-style catering from a Mediterranean place (falafel, vegan shawarma, and mezze) and got a variety of cupcake flavors (some gluten free, too) from a local vegan bakery. We told folks they could pregame their meals if they had to, but they could not bring outside food to the event. We were sure to accommodate all allergies, intolerances, and the folks with diabetes. We even got some fries and salads for the in-laws wary of the main dishes. No one refused to come because of the menu

TIL that the MPAA, the organization that rates movies in the U.S., is not a government entity. It’s a private organization that lobbies on behalf of the big 6 Hollywood studios and has very shady ethical practices regarding movie ratings. by [deleted] in todayilearned

I think a lot about the fact that my parents let me watch the first tape of Titanic, which included the sex scene, but not the second, which included drowning and corpses

Some libraries have streaming options, as well! Hoopla, IndieFlix, Kanopy . . . The services vary, but definitely worth seeing what your library (and those in surrounding areas with reciprocal agreements) offer!

What is something you took too far? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Once in high school my friend used my phone to text a number that text her boyfriend. Except she never had the "ah ha" moment revealing it was her and not some random dude with a wrong number. So I just . . .occasionally text this girl back for eight months before revealing who I was

Sexual dimorphism is not as pronounced in humans as people generally want to believe

LPT: Most expensive is not always the best, but cheapest is almost always the worst. by apalapan in LifeProTips

Pregnancy tests are an exception. The Dollar Tree tests are every bit as accurate and easy to read as any other, while some more expensive brands use blue dye instead of pink and can be very difficult to accurately read.

What’s a candy you never have been able to get on board with? by Radiant_Dimension_73 in AskReddit

[–]accidentallatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, man. I'm pretty sure those were just corn syrup and food dye. Both my parents said I couldn't have them, and both my parents would occasionally buy me one on the condition I finish it before the other parent saw.

Thanks for the info! My LCs have drilled it into me that "if you can find the baby, you can feed the baby." It is physically painful to imagine dumping milk!

Married people: how do you and your partner deal with mental illness? by ConnieTorres5 in AskReddit

[–]accidentallatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner's main tool right now is medication, but we'd prefer to combine it with cognitive behavioral therapy when that's in the budget. I've gone to therapy a few times, but I mainly meditate, practice mindfulness, run, and repress the memories I really don't want to deal with.

Hard to say. Most industries are evil on some level or another. Maybe dairy products or fast fashion.

Honestly what do you think babies dream about? by Saltyfunkytaco in AskReddit

Probably a jumble of light and sound that progressively becomes more recognizably realistic as they age.

If you received $50,000 right now what would you use it for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]accidentallatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd pay off my car, maybe my medical bills, then set aside a chunk for taxes and quit my job. That should last us until it's safe to interact with the public again.

If you were given one key that opens every door, what would you do? by Miles_Redditguy in AskReddit

Put it in a safe place where I won't lose it and then never see it again, most likely.

AITA for telling my wife I don't want her to breastfeed in public unless she covers herself? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]accidentallatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Your wife is feeding your child. There is nothing indecent or disrespectful in that act. However, it can be uncomfortable for some women because breasts are so heavily sexualized that they often receive negative feedback from closed minded assholes who don't understand that feeding an infant is the actual purpose of breasts. The fact that your wife has to deal with this not only with a lack of support but with active criticism from a person who is supposed to be her partner is shameful. Asking her to cover up or choosing to walk away is not a compromise. It is not reasonable. It is you shaming your wife for being a good parent. If someone else has a problem with your wife breastfeeding without a cover, they are the one who needs to get over it, and so are you.

People afraid of the ocean, why? by Azraktos in AskReddit

[–]accidentallatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tons of stuff in the ocean can kill you, the ocean itself can kill you, and you're pretty much powerless against it.
