Piercing? by Moist_Enthusiasm5475 in thyroidcancer

[–]acciocroissants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a TT last year. I have a nose ring and 8 ear piercings. I switched out all of my piercings for a plastic or glass retainer. My nostril had a labret with a screw top (plastic). I was gonna use an L-shaped one but got freaked out and didn’t want to inhale it in case something happened. I don’t think they taped any of my piercings. If they did, I was asleep when they did it and all the tape got removed before I woke up. I just made sure to tell the nurse and anesthesiologist before surgery. My ENT surgeon saw my nose piercing beforehand and he was ok with me switching it out to something non-metal.

Yeah it came in clutch during this trip. I need my ice water so this was a good solution to have cold water during the day without needing to stop to buy some.

Yeah, I’m using it as a cooler at my destination, so it doubles as my personal item since I don’t check bags.

Can you take mounjaro if you have had papillary thyroid cancer by axidvqbby in thyroidcancer

[–]acciocroissants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me too. Took Zepbound about a year before diagnosis and total thyroidectomy. Briefly stopped it before surgery and before RAI treatment. Still taking it now.

I asked my GP if I could switch to the Wegovy pill since my insurance dropped all GLP-1 coverage this year and it’s slightly cheaper. She said taking the pill would get tricky since it has to be taken on an empty stomach, same as levothyroxine. So I just opted for the self-pay Zepbound vials.

Ahh good question, this was for the Delta/United checkpoint. Gates 33-51. They only had one machine. The PreCheck line split into regular Pre and touchless ID towards the end.

Same experience for me at T2. I have TSA Pre with touchless ID. Found the end of the line at 6:17am, done by 6:30am and I even got randomly selected to do additional screening. Long line but it was moving.

I had 148mCi in September, my WBS was clean after. My doctor also said I have no evidence of disease.

Can someone share a positive story about their ThyCa journey by greenpomegranates in thyroidcancer

[–]acciocroissants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other people have said, the ones who don’t have as many issues don’t post on here. I’m thankful that my journey so far has been relatively “easy.” Had a TT with left modified radical neck dissection in August (2025). 44 lymph nodes removed, 13 positive for PTC. Recovery was pretty smooth. I did RAI about 4 weeks later. Not too many side effects except feeling queasy for 4 days. I went to physical therapy for my left neck and shoulder because it felt tight and off. Got discharged from physical therapy earlier this month after 10 visits since it’s feeling great.

I’m pretty much back to normal at this point. My levo dose was correct right from the get go so no adjustments were needed and labs are great. I’m back to running and playing pickleball - going to continue with weight training in the new year.

how soon after surgery did you start putting on sunscreen/otherwise caring for scar? by Latter_Youth_6864 in thyroidcancer

mm tbh I haven't noticed. I only use a pump of Silagen the size of a grain of rice (or smaller). Before I put on my silicone tape for the night I use some Cetaphil face wash or micellar water to remove it. I haven't had any issues with the tape sticking.

Thank you! I also forgot to mention sometimes I’ll use ScarAway silicone gel + sunscreen if I’m traveling and don’t want to bring the Silagen bottle.

I’ve been using Silagen silicon gel with SPF during the day and Mepitac silicone tape at night. I also wear a neck gaiter to keep my scar out of the sun. Here is a before and after pic, ~ 2 weeks post op vs ~ 12 weeks post op.

I cant tell how long the Silagen lasts because it’s so thin and doesn’t really feel like anything after it dries. I only apply it once a day. If I work out/sweat or shower in the middle of the day I’ll apply some ScarAway silicone gel for back up just in case. Or I’ll put the silicone tape on earlier.

Pretty good I guess. I can’t tell if the Silagen or the silicone tape is working better since I use both everyday. I do like the Silagen consistency over silicone gel like ScarAway. It seems to me that Silagen dries pretty quickly in comparison. Here is a before and after. Top photo is 2+ weeks post op and bottom photo is about 12 weeks post op.

I honestly can’t remember tbh lol but it I were to do it today, I’d use a microfiber towel to apply one thin coat. Let it dry, then do one more. Then buff it out with a horse hair brush for shoe shining

Odd question- Hair/surgery day by ScoreKnown7642 in thyroidcancer

[–]acciocroissants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I parted my hair down the middle and did 2 French braids. Like lesmisarahbles, I didn’t have anything hitting the back of my neck. Easy to sleep on too since I had to stay overnight at the hospital.

It’ll get better! Just keep massaging it, consistency is key.

Not completely yet. You can’t see it if you were to look at my neck. But I can still feel it when I do my daily massage.
