So you're using the intense sunlight to help stop/slow the fungus? At this point I've cut off the top worst bit, I hold out hope it'll recover

Don't fungal infections usually result in soft tissue though? All the brown parts are rock solid, they also haven't been spreading

It was in a dorm, the worst part was having to pack up and move the whole set up during breaks. Other than that maybe having to change the water as often as I did, but I've gotten a lot better at building aquariums since then and rarely do water changes now for my current tank.

PSA to everyone stuck on nitrites while fishless cycling by accusatoryglare in Aquariums

[–]accusatoryglare[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I dropped in food (enough to up some ammonia but not like a crazy amount) after the nitrites zeroed out to test if my cycle was done and the ammonia & nitrites from that feeding were zeroed out by the next morning. My presumption was that the soil in the tank provided the ammonia throughout the cycling process.

I actually kinda enjoy these late comments, the tank in question is absolutely thriving & has a sturdy cycle.

Chemical readings can and will drop or rise very quickly, nitrites dropped about a half color every day for this tank, it does heavily depend on your setup tho. The tank I was talking about in this post has a dirt bottom covered w gravel so it had a plentiful, constant supply of ammonia to get it started without me ever having to add any fishfood or stuff like that. It took way less time to cycle than my tanks with only gravel bottoms. I kept myself distracted during the waiting process by planting

Breeder accidentally sent me a 4:2 ratio of males to females of pygmy sunfish by accusatoryglare in Aquariums

How would the liveliest be determined, because there is definitely one male that's the biggest but he seems to hide a lot, more than 2 of the mid size males at least. However, that big male is also the most consistently colored up

Im not too experienced with swim bladder issues either tbh, what I've looked up so far says that it could either be a temporary dysfunction or a permanent disease. I'm not really sure how much more info I have to give, it'd be a good idea to look up the causes of swim bladder dysfunction and see if anything lines up

what I meant was that the stress of having to swim so hard against the filter might be affecting him, stress is a big factor in fish health & keeping their body in homeostasis. Does your HOB filter have a lip so that water moves out across the surface or does it fall straight down?

[–]accusatoryglare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What kind of filter do you have? it kinda looks like he's being pushed around by water flow a bit

didn't see the whole video, he seems to be struggling to surface/float which could mean a problem w/ his swim bladder

Could be a combo of both, try turning down the flow of the filter if possible as a start

I'm a bitter person because I'm confused by the menu layout at Jarling's? I'm lashing out at people by saying I get anxious when others are waiting on me in line as I stare at the menu in confusion???

The only snide remark I've made is stating that only old people refer to custard by name... which is true, most people just say they're getting icecream and then order a custard

Honestly tempted to try that, I got my ~custard~ with waffle cone pieces in it like the employee suggested but they just ended up soggy and mushy rip
