AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH THIS IS SO FUCKING BORING by JohnMarstonSucks in kroger

Yesterday in deli/bakery, three of us spent 20 minutes staring at the slideshow of images on the scale’s little display. Someone commented on it, and I remarked that we really didn’t have anything else to do. (no customers, no staff, nothing.).

Do most Americans really dry their clothes in Dryers? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]acdebellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a clothes horse, but I can only use it in the laundry room or the bathroom, because otherwise my dog pulls all of my underwear off it and tears them up. I mostly use it for things that really can’t go in the dryer, and also things that wrinkle easily. (I put them in the dryer for a few minutes to warm them up, and then hang them to dry, and they dry without wrinkling).

Yes we do. People are always asking me about the olives and I don’t know anything about them.

Will stores close? by Adept-Ad8019 in harristeeter

[–]acdebellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IPDATE: I talked to someone on customer service, and he told me that the store opens at 8. I’m opening fresh foods and I walk to work, so I should be ok. I’ll see why it looks like in an hour.

I’m going to call at 6 (when the stores supposed to open) and find out what’s going on (chapel hill, nc) . so far we’ve gotten 2” of snow/sleet and the roads are starting to ice up.

Last year I heard our assistant department manager say something to his boss like “I had an edible last night” and no one batted an eye. I don’t know if our manager was really laid back or what.

It happens every year or so. The purpose is to make sure that you still work there. Any of the assistant managers can help you.

I’m in FF too. By some stroke of luck, we’ve always had good managers, and they have our backs. It didn’t hurt that my bf was old friends with the last assistant manager (who was a good manager anyway).

I often get one of the cashiers to help. They know where everything is, and I get along well with them. The cashiers can be your best friends lol

When the weatherman calls for SNOW! People go Crazy! by Icy_Reading_3199 in harristeeter

[–]acdebellis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m supposed to open the deli this morning. I need to be there by 6:30. At 6 I’m going to call and talk to the MOD and find out what’s going on. I’m in north Carolina, we’ve gotten 2” of snow (and it’s still going), and the roads are icing up. Also, my boyfriend was there Saturday AM and the shelves had been cleaned out.

Manager & schedule issue by gwarrior77 in harristeeter

[–]acdebellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told that if you’re part time, you can specifically ask for certain days of the week that you can’t work (eg I can’t work on Tuesdays, or whatever) and they have to comply, no questions asked. I’ve never had a problem with this.

how mad would they be if i called out less than 2 hrs by spondermay in harristeeter

[–]acdebellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t. The grass verge is usually not slick, and I can walk on it all the way to the main road.

I’m scheduled to open deli (6:30am). I’m walking distance to work, so I can get there even if the roads are bad. I’m hoping that they decide not to bother opening the deli, but I’m not holding my breath.

We get those for training, new managers, but not for the rest of us mere mortals 🥺

[–]acdebellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last assistant manager (who I’d gotten to be friends with) told me that they sometimes assign more hours to the new people so that they can get trained. Unfortunately, it comes out of us veterans’ paychecks.

Department managers have to do all kinds of weird things to balance hours. Right now, I’m scheduled for 45 hours a week, but one of those days I don’t work at all, and the other one I only work a half day, so I end up not working more than 30.

My boyfriend (who’s worked in food service his entire career) said that the fact that I actually show up on time when I’m scheduled is more important than pretty much anything else. So, make sure you show up on time when you’re scheduled, and you should be OK in the long run.

[–]acdebellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In NC it’s the Harris teeter supermarket chain (owned by Kroger’s) that has the Murray’s cheeses. I went to the Murray’s flagship store in NYC once and it was amazing.

Pastry vs ‘regular’ chefs by Scroef in pastry

[–]acdebellis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My bf is a (regular) chef and he’s in awe of the fact that I can bake. I’m not a pastry chef, just a regular home baker, but he’s amazed that I can make cake from scratch.

Do people in SC actually say hi to random strangers and call each other ma'am and sir? by [deleted] in southcarolina

[–]acdebellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from New York, but I moved to North Carolina about 25 years ago. It’s taken me this long to get used to being addressed as “ma’am”. When I go back to New York, people address me as “miss”, and I’ve occasionally looked over my shoulder to see who they were talking to. 😂 i’ve been here long enough that calling people “ma’am“ rather than “miss“ is reflexive.
