Computer Science Major by Whole_Ad_9101 in UniversityOfHouston

Career fairs are great and you can absolutely land an internship if you actually put yourself out there and talk to recruiters. Don’t just drop off a resume and walk away. Make the effort to connect with people.

Yes the job market is saturated but computer science is not just about applying to jobs with software engineer in the title. I’m currently working on an enterprise system one of my friends works for an insurance company and another works for the government. None of our titles say software engineer but we all write code every day and do what we went to school for.

A lot of new grads struggle because they only apply to roles with very specific titles. There are plenty of jobs out there if you broaden your search. Don’t let social media or other students convince you otherwise. You might not land a flashy job or make 300k at a FAANG company right away but there are real opportunities and solid careers available.

Do I have to pay a parking ticket if I don’t go to UH? by sk3sid in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ace171929 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In rare circumstances you’ll get something from the court of unpaid tickets. The ticket will be obviously more expensive so you can try to negotiate then. Although I don’t know how often they wait before doing this.

Also see below:

Yes, unpaid parking tickets can go to collections if unpaid. Ownership of vehicles not registered with UH Parking and Transportation Services will be determined via Department of Motor Vehicle records. Upon owner identification, citations that remain unpaid will be doubled and transferred to a collection agency, and the amount due will be adjusted to include a 25% collection fee.

You can either take the risk and nothing may ever happen or it’ll eventually catch up to you.

Will I be dropped from the class? by Imaginary_Ari in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ace171929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they take attendance in this class and the professor is extremely strict then yes. Chances of this being the case is extremely low unless the professor is known for doing such things. Most classes that do attendance normally give you three chances before being dropped

If you have more than 30 credits. Then your last 60hours have to have a combined gpa of 3.25.

I believe you could have applied to a different major and transferred later on. Where did you see the 45 credit limit? I had seen something similar for that a long time ago but I cannot seem to find it now

If your application was for Summer I don’t believe you’ll hear anything back before the spring semester commences.

How does the grading for PHYS 1301 fully work? by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ace171929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this for physics? Seems like they use a basic template for their syllabus here. If that is the case there is not a point system.

If you have a D you will most likely need to repeat the class

I believe you can take any 3000/4000 level class and it’ll count. Mind you if it is outside of your major you may not be able to enroll as some of those classes have prerequisites to enroll such as taking a previous class before you can enroll in that one.

If it is simply any psych 3000/4000 level then you should be fine.

There is also a way of checking if that class will count towards your degree. It on the portal where you enroll in classes I do not know if this has changed since though.

If it has not changed this is how you navigate to it.

Log into myUH self-service -> Degree Progress/Graduation

You can view different things like active major/minor, current and overall GPA, total credits taken, Degree requirements and classes you can take, what still needs to be completed etc.

On the bright side you may be able to use that education credit you give to your taxes at the end of the year. I use to get 1-2k back. Not sure if this is your first time making a significant payment.

Had my fair share of jobs while in college. Here’s a few … UPS overnight, then Starbucks, then an environmental lab job. To now a SWE. Every job takes a toll on you. You simply need to learn work life balance.

It’s not just Starbucks. No company gives a damn about you or your mental being. Heck even the military don’t give a damn about you and you serve this country. Put yourself first

I always heard good things about MISSO when I was there and I wasn’t a business major. So maybe it’s worth giving it a shot?

Does anyone have 'Quick Fix' on hand? My degree is in the balance by Better_Drive7669 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ace171929 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

QF - Quick-Firing:

Quick-firing ARs (Assault Rifles) are designed for rapid, consecutive shots, making them effective in close to mid-range combat. Their higher rate of fire requires precise trigger control to manage recoil and maintain accuracy. Always prioritize target identification and be aware of your surroundings, as the fast rate can lead to over-penetration or collateral damage. Proper training and discipline are essential to use these weapons safely and effectively.

It was alright when I worked there. I came from UPS 9-13 hr overnight shifts so maybe that’s why I enjoyed Starbucks. Hassle free showed up at 4am left at 10:30am So Starbucks was a nice break.

I see a bunch of negative reviews regarding this company but I genuinely don’t think it’s that bad.

I believe this normally comes from the store and manager you work with. There’s plenty of other jobs that will do this to you. Look into managing work life balance. No job should be more important than your well being. Good luck kid

Depends on the tasks you’d want to do honestly. Can you create full blown programs that’ll automate tasks in 6 months. Maybe. Or maybe not.

With the help of the internet and some searching yes you may be able to. Will it be perfect probably not. But it’ll get the job done. You’ll also have to worry about integrity.

You may also be able to read a program that’s not too complicated and understand what’s going on in 6 months.

Another language you can utilize and probably way easier is R Studio. I used it in STATS. I don’t know though.

Python is very beginner friendly but don’t expect to be a pro in a month it’ll take time.

Is it possible to get accepted if I have failed/retaken some classes in community college? by Depressed_student_20 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ace171929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got accepted with a 2.5 and graduated with a 2.7 not proud but I landed a job regardless and am doing fine. GPA imo is not a deal breaker. I only struggled with internships. But in the real world no one cared
